The White County Commissioners approved a resolution Monday night to give the White County Animal Shelter a second part-time position.
County Executive Denny Wayne Robinson said after conversations with the shelter they decided it was in the best interest to hire an additional part-time position. The county will move some $15,100 from the restricted fund to accommodate the salary for the position. Robinson said the move was for safety reasons as before a single person would be there alone with no help.
“They were concerned about the safety of the person there,” Robinson said. “You know, whether it be an intruder coming in or a dog bite or something that you know is just unforeseen that there would be another person there to be able to at least render some sort of assistance.”
Four commissioners were absent from the meeting, but all ten commissioners in attendance voted unanimously to approve the position. Robinson said the new position would not affect the overall general budget or fund.
