White Co. Votes To Pay Sheriff’s Legal Bill

The White County Commission voted to pay Sheriff Oddie Shoupe’s legal fees without comment at a recent meeting.

White County Executive Denny Wayne Robinson said the county would have to pay the bill.

Shoupe sued the commission last year, asking for more officers and equipment upgrades, among other things.

The county and Shoupe settled the suit out of court. As part of the settlement, Shoupe can hire 10 new correctional officers this year.

The county received the bill for $124,000 two weeks ago. The law firm offered the county a $5,000 discount if they didn’t dispute the bill.
