White Co Transitioning From State To In-House Building Permits In February

White County will begin handling building permits and inspections in-house on February 1st.

The county decided to transition away from the state’s services to increase availability. Building Inspector Brett Nash said he has scheduled an informative meeting Tuesday to address any concerns from local contractors.

“Every jurisdiction is different,” Nash said. “We may do something different from Sparta or from Putnam County. So, I wanted to get everybody on the same page as to what I expect and the permitting and inspection process.”

The meeting takes place at 6:00 p.m. on the third floor of the county courthouse. Nash said the county will roll out a new software for people to apply for permits online. Nash said he will review how to file for permits on your own and what is required from buildings.

“I hope everyone can walk away from this meeting knowing that I am available at any time,” Nash said. “Really just trying to introduce people to the new online software and trying to make it more convenient for contractors and home owners to schedule inspections online.”

Nash said the county will be implementing the same building codes as the state. Nash said any permits issued before February by the state will be finished out by a state codes official.
