White County has received a good report on recycling with over 1,500 tons of waste recycled last year.
The state requires annual progress reports to be submit yearly. Solid Waste Consultant Lisa Luck said the tonnage shows that at least 25 percent of waste did not end up in a landfill.
“1,561 tons of waste compared to 524 in 2020,” Luck said. “That is like an A ++ on that part of the report.”
Luck said the annual report now updates the 10 year master plan for White County waste. A new household waste landfill cell is set to open next year and construction of a new recycling facility has began.
“So instead of filing a big report every 10 years, you update that plan,” Luck said. “It just tracks the projects year to year.”
Luck said other numbers for 2021 include 14,943 tons of household waste, 11,628 tons in construction debris and 449 tons in recycled tires. Luck said compared to 2020, household garbage slightly decreased, construction by-products slightly increased and tires almost doubled.
Luck said the reports are required by law as a part of the Solid Waste of 1992.
