The White County Sheriff’s Office offering free scans to prevent potential hazardous items in children’s candy on Halloween night.
Sheriff Steve Page said from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., parents and kids can bring their candy to the Justice Center to be x-rayed.
“We’ve actually just started doing it this year,” Page said. “We have a new scanning machine in to do it with. I thought it would be a good thing for us to try to help the community out.”
Page said an employee will be onsite to screen for drugs, razors and other dangerous items. When arriving at the Justice Center, pick up the phone in the lobby and dial 247. An Officer will come down to x-ray.
“Now a days, there is so many drugs out on the street, we want to make sure the children are safe and not eat things that could possibly harms their bodies,” Page said.
Page said the x-ray machine was recently purchased this year to scan people entering court. Page said the equipment now has a second use through this service.
