White Co Schools TCAP Scores Above Average For Younger Grades

White County Schools TCAP results have the district ranked number one in the region in 3rd grade ELA.

That is according to Elementary Instruction Supervisor Angela Fresh. According to the state, the system had a 42 percent proficiency in ELA, 10 percent higher than the state average.

“Grade three looks really good,” Fresh said. “If you look at that, I’m going to be perfectly honest. We are higher than the state in all three of those and that’s probably the highest we have been in a number of years.”

Fresh said 3rd grade also tested higher than average in science and math. Fresh said grade four and five had similar averages and also placed above state proficiency numbers.

“I will say I am real proud of our 3rd, 4th and 5th grade ELA teachers this past year for taking on Wit and Wisdom,” Fresh said. “A very vigorous curriculum and it really paid off.”

Fresh said 7th grade math ranked 6th in the Upper Cumberland. However, according to state numbers, the proficiency rate is 21.8 percent, under state numbers by one percent. Fresh said the numbers are based off individual achievement with growth numbers coming out later.

“We hope in October,” Fresh said. “It’s what we’ve been told at this time. You’re looking at achievement right there. Growth is different. One is not necessarily an indication of the other.”
