White County Planning has added a new requirement for subdivisions planned to be off of state routes.
UCDD Planner Tommy Lee said any time you build a house that has a driveway coming from state route it requires T-DOT approval. He said because it is already required by the state, this is something the county wanted to include in its subdivision regulations.
“The state can say no, just because the division is done according to the White County regulations it does not mean the state will grant that person access off of the state route,” Lee said.
Lee said the most common state routes in White County include Highway 111, 136, 84, and others. Lee said the conversation to include this new regulation stems from a previously proposed subdivision.
Lee said due to the terrain off the state route, they required the developer to go and get T-DOT approval before moving forward with the development. He said instead of requiring this case-by-case, it would not just be a pre-requisite for these proposed subdivisions.
