White Co Hires Building Inspector For In-House Building Permits

White County has hired a new building codes enforcer in its next step to provide building permit services locally.

County Executive Denny Wayne Robinson said Brett Nash will be the county’s Residential Building Inspector. Robinson said before, the state issued permits.

“Those vendors quit issuing that, so we had no one in White County to issue building permits,” Robinson said. “I didn’t think that was a good way to do business, so I started issuing them out of my office.”

Robinson said that is when he started to see the revenue that the county lost by using the state. Robinson said this year alone, an additional $100,000 would come to the county instead of the state.

“That’s money taken out of our community and sent to Nashville for building permits,” Robinson said. “So, we decided we were going to implement that here locally.”

Robinson said Nash has not started yet. Robinson said the county is still finishing up the permitting program and waiting on state approval. Robinson said there will be no changes for residents. In fact, Robinson said it would benefit people since office hours will increase.
