White County High School CTE students will have the opportunity to try out an industry-standard robot thanks to TCAT Livingston.
CTE Instructor Lane Ward said the high school was the recipient of a GIVE grant for the second year in a row. He said the $10,000 robot will help students get acquainted with machinery used to lift, sort, and perform other tasks in the mechatronics industry.
“And some of them will go right into continuing their post-secondary experience,” Ward said. “They’ll leave with industrial certifications when they graduate, and they’ll just have a leg up.”
Ward said as mechatronics is a growing industry in the region, this is an exciting opportunity for White County students. He said the machinery is currently being set up in the classroom and should be ready for use in the next few days.
“And I think other surrounding counties would echo that,” Ward said. “I know Putnam County would I know that Warren County would. It seems our area especially, that industry is growing as is injection molding especially here in White County and Sparta.”
Ward said the school received an injection molding robot last year through this same grant.
