After missing last year due to COVID, the White County High School Cheer Team is excited to announce the return of their Mini Cheer Camp Fundraiser.
The fundraiser is a camp for all ages to come and brush up on their cheer skills either to prep for try-outs or just for fun. Varsity Head Coach Tracy Mason said she hopes the community comes out to support the cheer team in raising money.
“We are considered a small sport, so it’s hard for us to raise funds like football or basketball do, and we are trying to raise enough funds for new uniforms. It’s been a couple years since we’ve had new uniforms, and it’s a major undertaking to have fundraisers to be able to do that,” said Mason.
Mason said she hopes the fundraiser allows the team the team to lend skills they’ve learned to others, as well as earn them a little more recognition.
“I would love for my cheerleaders to get more recognition than they get. Sometimes cheerleaders are not thought of as athletes but they are, and this actually does show some of the skills they’ve learned throughout the year to help kids with tryouts at their potential schools and stuff like that,” said Mason.
Mason said she wants the community to come together for a fun time and a good cause.
“Come out and support the White County Cheerleaders. They are a great group of girls and we have fun. I just want the attendance to be big not just for those funds for us to be able to purchase those uniforms, but for the leadership and the community things that it involves when we’re all together,” said Mason.
The camp is May 1oth-12th from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. For more information, call Coach Mason at White Co. High School.
