The White County Commission approved an offer to settle Sheriff Oddie Shoupe’s lawsuit.
Shoupe filed suit against the White County Commission in August 2016.
Commissioner Al Klee said the group voted to offer a settlement at its regular meeting Monday.
“I thought it was kind of a close vote, there were 14 of us present, and 8 were for it and 6 were not, 8 was required to pass it,” Klee said.
Klee was one of the eight who voted to offer the settlement.
“I think it was a win-win for all of us, certainly in my mind, the Sheriff, and our fire, EMS, I want em all to have good equipment, good training, good pay so that they’re rested and when I need help, they’re there to help me,” Klee said.
Shoupe’s lawsuit asked for a raise for all employees, more officers and jailers, a secretary, and more funding for training and equipment. At this time, it’s not known what was contained in the settlement offer or if Shoupe will accept it.
