The White County Commission has elected Kyle Goff as the new commissioner for District Seven.
Five nominations were brought to floor during Monday’s Board of Commissioners meeting. After a roll call vote, Goff earned majority by receiving seven of the 13 votes.
Goff said the two reasons why he sought the position are to represent his district and help the county grow.
“With my vocation, I keep an open door policy,” Goff said. “And I don’t anticipate this being any different. I need to communicate with my constituents, and I think that is one of the main roles of a commissioner to represent the constituents and provide some leadership.”
Goff is a White County native and currently serves as the CEO of the Sparta YMCA and a board member of the Sparta Rotary Club. He is also the son of Sparta Police Chief Doug Goff.
“I do have some values and some true north principles that I can bring to the commission,” Goff said. “That I could help add to the character, competency and chemistry that you guys have already built.”
Goff is an alumni of Tennessee Tech with a degree in exercise science. Commissioner Cain Rogers nominated Goff.
“I’ve got four major commitments right now that I am focused on in my life,” Goff said. “My faith and my religion, (…) my wife, my daughter and my family, my vocation, which is the Y and then to the community. So, I think this position falls into that fourth bucket of community, and I want to use it as an extension of myself to serve.”
The seat was left vacant after Bobby McCulley relocated and resigned in January. The four other nominations were Andy Davis, Larry Daniels, Daniel McCulley and Charlie Tollison.
