White Co Building Inspector Wants To Better Enforce Permits Once Starting

White County Building Codes Inspector Brett Nash wants residents to know that he will have a renewed focus on building permits once the county transitions away from the state.

Nash said decks, detached garages and home additions over 200 square feet will require a permit. Something that the state has not strictly regulated in the county.

“With me being here locally in the county, I can kind of keep more of a handle on that and make sure that stuff is enforced,” Nash said. “My main objective is I am here to serve the tax payers of White County and make sure they get what they paid for at the best quality.”

Nash said the state has indicated that White County building permits could be operational as soon as December. Nash said he is waiting for the state exemption required. Until then, building permits are still issued through the state.

Nash said the county will start with residential permits only. Nash said commercial permits will come later once the office is better established. Nash said agricultural buildings are exempt.
