White Co Band Fronted Cost To Perform At Outback Bowl

The White County School Board will front the cost for its High School band to perform at the Outback Bowl January 1st.

Director of Schools Kurt Dronebarger said the school board did not want fund raising to be an issue for students.

“We’ve got a fantastic band program. Very proud of it here in White County,” Dronebarger said. “But, they have a special opportunity, because they are good they’ve been selected to go to the Outback Bowl this year. It’s a little bit of a bigger trip then what they would normally do, but we want to make that a reality for the students.”

One hundred and nine band students will participate in the game’s parade on New Year’s Eve and during the halftime show. Dronebarger said up to $11,000 will be covered by the system.

“It’s expensive when you have that many great band members going on the trip,” Dronebarger said, “We’ll work with the band to see those funds reimbursed throughout the year.”

Dronebarger said the band fell behind in fundraising due to COVID affecting attendance for high school sports. Dronebarger said it is not often school trips are funded, but the performance was a special opportunity.

“We’re just excited to give kids an opportunity to go on a once in a lifetime type of trip,” Dronebarger said.
