White Approves New Juvenile Detention Agreement

White County juveniles could soon be housed at the Rutherford County Juvenile Detention Center.

The White County Commission approved a new agreement during Monday’s commission meeting. County Executive Denny Wayne Robinson said the county usually sends offending minors to Putnam County’s Juvenile Center, but it is near capacity.

“They (Putnam) were getting close to being full. They did not pop it on us last minute,” Robinson said. “They said y’all need to start looking at an alternative place, and so, that is what we did. We just started calling and Rutherford County was the closest one.”

Robinson said the agreement is to be proactive for when Putnam stops accepting transfers, so the county does not face overflows. Robinson said the county will be charged a fee for each night a delinquent is housed.

“The costs will depend on what it costs to house one,” Robinson said. “We just pay per night or per day, and they have a place for juveniles just like Putnam County.”

White County does not have its own juvenile offender holding facility.

The county commission also approved declaring two fire trucks as surplus. The trucks will be donated to another department.
