Weekend Fire Destroys Smithville Home

A Saturday night fire destroyed a Smithville home and left a mother and son homeless.

Officials said the blaze happened at a home on Cooper Street when a grease fire got out of control and spread through the home.

Fire Chief Charlie Parker said crews quickly responded to the scene, but the home was already fully involved in flames.

The American Red Cross is providing assistance to the family. No injuries were reported.
