Oda Stephens Pugh, Age 94, Of Monterey, Passed Away On Tuesday, May 14, 2019, At Standing Stone Care And Rehabilitation Center. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

Ellen Zimmerman, age 72 of Cookeville, passed away Tuesday evening May 14 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Arrangements are incomplete.

Funeral services for Mr. Bethel C. Ledbetter, 65, of Gainesboro, will be held at 2 P.M. on Thursday, May 16, 2019, at Anderson – Upper Cumberland Funeral Home in Gainesboro. Burial will follow in the Byers Cemetery in the Center Grove community of Jackson County. He passed away on Tuesday, May 14, 2019, at St. Thomas West in Nashville. He was born January 14, 1954, in Overton County to the late Bethel Cordell Ledbetter, Sr. and Nelma Reba Garrett Ledbetter. He was married to the late Jo Ann Mabery Ledbetter, who passed away August 23, 2016. He was a truck driver. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by 2 Sisters: Marie King and Judy Foston. Survivors include 1 Son: Timothy (Mahala) Ledbetter of Byrdstown; 1 Step Daughter: Sheila (Anthony) Clouse of Gainesboro; 1 Granddaughter: Abbigale Clouse; and 3 Sisters: Darlene Hall, Kathy Neal, and Clarazell Hargis. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 11 A.M. until time of services.

Greg Jenkins Will Officiate With Interment To Follow In The Mayland Cemetery. Mrs. Smith Was Born On May 16, 1950, In Monterey To The Late Lon Edward And Edith Lacy Abston. Mrs. Smith Passed Away On Monday, May 13, 2019, At Her Daughter’s Home. Mrs. Smith Was A Homemaker And A Factory Worker. She Was A Member Of Twinton Freewill Baptist Church. She Is Survived By Her Husband Of Almost 48 Years, George Smith Of The Twinton Community; Daughter, Mary Norrod Of The Twinton Community; Son And Daughter-In-Law, Lonnie And Petrona Smith Of Monterey; 6 Grandchildren; Sister, Nellie Mahanney Of Mayland; 2 Brothers And A Sister-In-Law, Willie And Zona Abston Of Crawford, Arnold Abston Of Mayland. Service for David Rhoton Haston, age 70, will be held on Thursday, May 16, 2019, at 3 pm at Christian Fellowship Church, 2558 Jerry Parker Rd., Sparta, TN and officiating will be Rev. Bennie Ancar. Interment will follow in Haston cemetery. David passed away Monday, May 13, 2019 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Mr. Haston was born in Fort Pierce, Florida on June 1, 1948 to George Thomas Haston and Hazel Lee (Roberts) Haston. David Haston was an accomplished licensed mason, carpenter, and greenhouse industry owner at which he created beautiful fireplaces, log homes, and had a talent for growing traditional/tropical flowers and vegetables. He was a passionate individual who loved his family and especially enjoyed his grandchildren. David was an active and dedicated member of Christian Fellowship Church for 25 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; and late wife of 26 years, Rosalita (Rose) Ancar Haston. David is survived by his loving children, Hope (Ian) James, and David (Angela Canales) Haston; five grandchildren: Megan (Alex) Parten, Ethan (Hannah) James, Faith James, Evan James, and Tristan Haston; brother Tommy (Barbara) Haston and sister Ruth (Dudley) Spakes, nephews/nieces and extended family. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 15, 2019, at Christian Fellowship Church, 2558 Jerry Parker Rd., Sparta, TN from 4 pm until 8 pm.

Funeral services for Sue Bruce, 71 of Baxter will be Friday, May 17 at 10 AM from the Baxter Chapel of Hooper Huddleston Horner Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Chestnut Mound Missionary Baptist Cemetery in Smith County. Mrs. Bruce died Tuesday morning, May 14, 2019 at her home in Baxter surrounded by her loving family. She was born July 6, 1947 in Smith County to the late Houston and Violet Mai Smith Austin. In addition to her parents she was preceded by her first husband David Mathis, sister Anna Frances Austin, grandparents: Ernest Tilmon and Elma Florence Bush Austin and Jesse C. and Hester Cardwell Smith. She was a member of New Zion Missionary Baptist Church at Bloomington Springs. She enjoyed traveling, fishing and being with family and friends. She was a retired shipping supervisor with Identity Group of Cookeville. Survivors include husband James “Jim” Calbert Bruce of Baxter, daughters and sons-in-law Dr. Sylvia and Matthew Moore of Pulaski, Tn, Diane and Lonnie Vaughn of Baxter, step-daughter Jodi Bruce of Baxter, brothers and sisters-in-law Garry and Cricket Austin of Baxter, Rickey and Gail Austin of Silver Point, Jerry and Linda Austin of Baxter, grandchildren: Lacey, Christopher and Holly Vaughn. The family will receive friends Thursday from 4 to 8 PM and after 9 AM Friday at the funeral home.

Funeral services for Mrs. Verla Virginia Young Knowles, age 92 of Sparta, will be conducted 1pm Friday, May 17, 2019 from the chapel of Hunter Funeral Home with burial in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery. She passed away Tuesday, May 14, 2019 at NHC of Sparta. She was born March 2, 1927 to the late George and Alma Lee Young. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Knowles is preceded in death by her husband Frank Knowles, daughter Carlee, granddaughter Julia and sisters Marlene Dodson, Reta Young and Martha York. She is lovingly survived by her Daughters: Gail (Johnny) Judd and Christy (Jason) Bradley; Grandchildren: Micheal (Wendy), Wesley (Erin), Olivia, Roy, Robert (Willene), Micheal (Vickie); Sisters: Marie Fields and Mildred Scott, both of Kentucky; Brother: Bobby (Nona) Young of Sparta; 8 Great-Grandchildren, 9 Great-Great-Grandchildren; Several Nieces and Nephews; Special Cousins: JB & Marie Rittenberry; Special Friend: Bubba Johnson. Deborah passed away on Tuesday, May 14, 2019, at Saint Thomas MidTown Hospital in Nashville. She was born Friday, January 15, 1954 in Lewisburg, she was the daughter of the late James and the late Bobbie Jean Eady Slaughter. She was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include: Husband: Tim Mason of Doyle; Daughters: Deana Brantley (John) of McMinnville, and Laurie Hurt of Pleasant View; Son: Bobby Hurt (Dana) of Springfield; 8 Grandchildren: Trey, Tyler (Madison), Katlyne, Jaydon, Justin, Megan, Jace, and Trent.

Mrs. Judd Passed Away On Monday, May 13, 2019, At Providence Place Of Mt. Juliet. Mrs. Judd Was A Factory Worker Working In The Garment Industry. She Was A Member Of Monterey First Baptist Church. She Is Survived By Her Son And Daughter-In-Law, James And Janice Judd Of Nashville; 3 Grandchildren, Melissa (And Greg) Sevenich Of Mt. Juliet, Amy Judd Of Lebanon, Heather (And Chuck) Graviss Of Lebanon; Daughter-In-Law, Betty Dickerson Of Mt. Juliet; And 8 Great Grandchildren. Memorial services for Mr. James Edward Pollard, age 81 of Smithville, will be conducted 3:00pm Saturday, May 18, 2019 from the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home with full military honors by the Veterans’ Honor Guard. Mr. Pollard passed away Sunday, May 12, 2019 at his residence. Mr. Pollard was born November 23, 1937 in White County to the late Willie Lee & Zonnee Lee Luna Pollard. He retired as a heavy equipment mechanic but had a career that involved the railroad and other other jobs that sent him all over the world. James served his country in the U.S. Air Force in Vietnam and still worked on cars in retirement. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by a sister Dora Faye Pollard; brothers Elijah, David and Junior Pollard. Survivors include his daughters Deborah Pollard (Barry) Mason of Walling, Beverly (Brian) Ingram of Crossville; Grandchildren: Mary Beth (Adam) Price, Rebecca (Joshua) Christy; Great-granddaughter and his pride and joy Lilith Marie Christy; Sister: Virgie Young; Brothers: William Pollard and Charles Pollard; Special nephew: Jerry Pollard; Special Great Nephew: Alex Pollard; A host of nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services for Mrs. Ernest Marie Knowles Clark, age 82 of Sparta, will be conducted 3:00pm Sunday, May 19, 2019 at The Lord’s Chapel Church with burial in Young Cemetery. Mrs. Clark passed away on Tuesday morning May 14, 2019 at her home. Mrs. Clark was born December 2, 1936 to the late Ernest and Delma Cunningham Knowles. In addition to being a retired beautician, Marie also retired from Red Cap and Wilson factories. In addition to her parents, Marie is preceded in death by her husband Thomas Edgar (Ed) Clark and sisters Betty Barnes and Ann Graham. Mrs. Clark’s surviving family includes her Daughters: Karen (Robert) Gann of Carthage, Sharon Gail (Harton) Goines of Sparta; Sons: Marchel “Mike” Clark of Sparta, Steve Clark of Sparta; Brother: Ervin (Bonita) Knowles of Quebeck; Special Daughters: Lynn West and Helen Varnadore, both of Sparta; Best Friend: Carolyn McDowell (Peter Rabbit) of Sparta; Special Cousin: Pat Wilson; Grandchildren: Christy Goines, Heather (Patrick) Garrison, Daryll Clark, Todd Clark, Justin Clark, Dustin Boyd, Shawn Boyd, Chris Clark, Tom Clark, Josh Clark; 20 Great Grandchildren; Several Nieces and Nephews. Memorial services for James Arthur Jones, age 98, of Cookeville, will be at 1 p.m. Monday May 20 at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home. Family will receive friends Sunday May 19 from 4 – 7 p.m. and again Monday from 10 a.m. until service time. Mr. Jones passed away Friday morning May 10, 2019 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.

A Celebration of life for Mrs. Mary Jane “Janie” (Sasha) Mabe age 73 of Cookeville, will be held on Thursday, May 23, 2019 at 6 PM at the Unity Church of the Cumberlands located on 10th street in Cookeville. Janie had chosen cremation and the family has followed her wishes. Janie passed away from this life at the Cookeville Regional Medical Center on Saturday morning, May 11, 2019. Janie was born in Detroit, Michigan on November 25, 1945 to the late Stanley and Marie (Syroid) Stafford. Janie was well known for her crafts, sewing, cake decorations, making her own cards, writing books and poems using the name Sasha Mabe. She wrote a book of Poetry called the Dark Side of Mother Wonderful. She was an accomplished heavy metal drummer and also played the bells. Janie also belonged to an assortment of clubs in Cookeville, including the Cookeville Writers Association, The Embroiders Guild, The Cookeville Art Gallery and Studio, F.C.E., The Cookeville Chapter of the National Button Collectors Society, and the National Sewing Guild. A Member of the Unity Church of the Cumberlands. Survivors: Husband: of 56 years Homer Mabe; 1 Daughter: Kathy Mabe; 1 Son: Keith Mabe and his wife Carmen; 1 Granddaughter: Summer Hagner; Brother and Sisters In-Law: Alvin JR and Betty Mabe, Gene and Carolyn Mabe, Donald and Wilma Mabe, Gary and Brenda Mabe. A Graveside Service for Thomas Earl Dunham, 62 of Doyle, will be held at 1pm on Saturday, May 25, 2019 at Oak Lawn Memorial Cemetery with Tracy Curtis officiating. Thomas passed away on Monday, May 13, 2019, at his home. He was born Tuesday, September 11, 1956 in Detroit , Michigan. Survivors include: Wife: Elaine Dunham of Doyle; Son: Elwin Thompson of Cookeville; Brothers: Roger Dunham and Terry Dunham of Sparta; Mother: Laheeta Roberts of Sparta. The family will welcome friends from 11am until the time of the service at the funeral home.

Memorial service for Dr. William Gene “Doc” McConnell, age 95 of Sparta, will be at First United Methodist Church in Sparta on Friday, May 31, 2019 at 10:00a.m. Dr. McConnell passed away on March 12, 2019 in Crossville. Dr. McConnell was born to Charles Martin and Aida Whitely McConnell of Council Grove, Kansas on October 17, 1923. He was their first of two sons. He was a fighter pilot instructor in the Navy in WWII. He practiced and was the owner of White County Veterinary Clinic for over 30 years. He loved to spend time with friends and family over good food, telling tales of his youth, Navy days, and memorable veterinary calls. He spent countless hours playing bridge and other card games. Most of all he loved watching any sporting event, in person or televised, with those friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Charles E McConnell, and his first wife Marilyn Woods McConnell of 38 years and his second wife Ruth Nixon McConnell of 22 years. He is survived by his daughter Leeanne Hargrove, his grandson William Hargrove, and his step-daughter Connie Stone. The family asks that donations be made to your local Humane Society, SPCA, or animal shelter or the charity of your choice instead of sending flowers.
