Obituaries For Wednesday, March 31
Mr. Bobby Simmons, age 74 of Silver Point, passed away Wednesday morning, March 31 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Arrangements are incomplete.
Mr. Teddy Donald Jones, age 56 of Lebanon, formerly of Sparta, passed away Saturday, March 27, 2021 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Mr. Jones was born July 28, 1964 to the late Harold Tean Jones and Alice Rosita Ochoa Jones in Wayne County, Michigan. He was a US Army Veteran. He was a kind and gentle man, loving and giving, always thinking of others more than himself. He donated his hair twice a year to Saint Jude. He loved to cook. He was a caregiver, and Uber driver, always ready to give a helping hand to anyone who needed it. The Jones family has entrusted Hunter Funeral Home with Teddy’s cremation and a family burial of ashes will take place at Shockley Cemetery at a later date.
Susan (Susie) C. Richmond, age 88 of Cookeville, died Wednesday, March 17, 2021. Susan was born in Ft. Leavenworth, KS to Col. Joseph Franklin and Mrs. Susan Colborn Richmond. As a child, Susan lived in Cookeville and Nashville and later in Frostburg, MD. She eventually made her home in Cincinnati for many years. She is predeceased by her sister Diana Meehan, and brothers Joseph Franklin Richmond, Jr. and Harry Richmond. Susie taught high school English in Washington, DC, and Cincinnati, OH where she was also director of the Cincinnati Area Teacher Center. She was instrumental in the founding of the Cincinnati Teachers Union, serving as secretary. After retiring, she RVed to Alaska, Labrador and to many places in the US. Susie and Sally moved to Florida in 1997, first to Fort Myers and then in 2005, they moved to The Villages, FL, where she never saw a golf course she did not like. A lifelong democrat, Susie cared deeply about the country and education. She always wanted to hear what others had to say on the issues, especially young people. She was known for her generosity, sense of adventure and ability to talk to anyone. Also, she enjoyed discussions of ideas, bridge, meeting with friends and traveling. She was a member of the Rainbow Family & Friends Club and the AAUW. A memorial on Zoom is being planned.
A graveside service and interment for Mrs. Asylee Eugene Hulme, age 92 of Cookeville and formerly of Jackson, will be held Thursday, April 1 at 10:30 a.m. at West Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery in Memphis. Rev. Don Davidson will officiate. Mrs. Hulme died Thursday March 25 at Morningside of Cookeville. She was born October 28, 1928 in Madison County, TN to the late William Chester Baker and Eunice Goodrich Baker. She attended Asbury College in Wilmore, Ky where she met her late husband, U.S. Army Colonel and Methodist church minister, John Hulme. Asylee was a devoted and supportive minister’s and military chaplain’s wife. She served alongside side her husband in many churches as they lived in many states and countries. She was a gracious host who entertained many dignitaries and prime ministers with her kindness and culinary skills. She was a pianist who enhanced her husband’s services in many of their churches. She was hospitable to all. She is survived by her daughter, Sylvia Hull of Mineral Hills, TX. Memorial contributions are suggested to be made to Jackson (TN) First United Methodist Church, 200 S. Funeral Services For David Ray Delk, Age 86, Of Monterey, Will Be Conducted On Thursday, April 1, 2021, At 11:00 AM From The Chapel Of Goff Funeral Home. Bro. Michael Waters And Rev. Nick Turner Will Officiate With Interment To Follow In The Whittaker Cemetery. Mr. Delk Was The Oldest Of 11 Children Born On February 28, 1935, In Jamestown, Tennessee, To The Late Noble Rutherford And Betty Enola Whited Delk. Mr. Delk Passed Away On Monday, March 29, 2021, At His Home. Mr. Delk Had A Strong Work Ethic And Went To Work At The Age Of 13 As A Paperboy In Monterey. During High School, He Worked At Looper’s Service Station And Bought His First Car At The Age Of 15. During The Summer Of His Junior Year, He Went To Work In the Automobile Factory In Detroit, Michigan, And Then Returned To School At Monterey High School To Graduate With The Class Of 1954. After Graduation, He Was Employed At General Motors – Cadillac Division In Detroit, Michigan, For 15 Years. He Moved His Family Back To Monterey In 1968 And Worked For 25 Years At Middle Tennessee Natural Gas As A Service Technologist. He Was Also Involved In The Community As An Alderman For The Town Of Monterey For 8 Years. He Retired At The Age Of 58 And He And His Wife Enjoyed Many Road Trips Across The United States To Visit The Grand Canyon, Mount Rushmore, Niagara Falls, And The East Coast. He Was An Avid Gardener And Baseball Fan; Enjoying Especially The Atlanta Braves And The Detroit Tigers. He Loved Old Cars And Restored Several After His Retirement. He Was Involved In Family Genealogy And Loved Sharing Stories About The History Of The Family. He Attended Monterey Assembly Of God. He Was Known As A Man Who Loved His Family And Was Devoted To Them And Also As A Man Who Helped Others. He Is Survived By His Wife Of 66 Years, Bernice Looper Delk Of Monterey, TN, Who Was His High School Sweetheart. They Began Sitting Together At The Movies In The 8th Grade And Eloped To Rossville, Georgia, On December 25, 1954. For Over 70 Years, She Was Always His Sweetheart. He Is Also Survived By 1 Daughter, Dr. Melinda (And Blake) Swafford Of Monterey, TN; 2 Sons, Bobby (And Judy) Delk Of Baxter, TN, Eric Delk (And Christi Hacker) Of Monterey. The Family Will Receive Friends At Goff Funeral Home On Wednesday, March 31, 2021, From 5:00 PM Until 7:00 PM.

Burial will be in Butlers Landing Cemetery. Mr. Gore passed from this life on Monday evening from his residence. He was born in Overton County on November 24, 1942, to the late Charles and Sibyl Howard Gore. Donald loved his family, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed spending time with his dog Neva, going squirrel hunting, and gardening; but most of all he loved his Lord. Mr. Gore leaves behind his loving wife Donna Gore of Celina; sons David Gore and wife Amy of Hilham and Mark Gore and wife LeAnn of Hilham. Pallbearers to serve are William Gore, Andrew Gore, and Jeff Korth. Honorary Pallbearer will be Jake Gore. The family will welcome friends on Wednesday from 5 until 8 PM at Speck Funeral Home. Funeral Services with full Military Honors for Oplis (Blackie) Flatt, age 95 of Bloomington Springs, will be held at 2:00pm on Thursday April 1 from the Chapel of Whitson Funeral Home with burial in the Crestlawn Cemetery. Brother James Bowlin will officiate at the service and family and friends will service as Pallbearers. Mr. Flatt passed away March 26 at the Tennessee Veterans Home in Murfreesboro. He was retired from Automation Tool Company. He spent his retired years farming and researching his family history. He was also a member of Bloomington Springs Church of Christ and a World War 11 veteran in the Army Air Corp. Oplis was married to the late Betty Marie Flatt who passed away on January 27, 2021. He is survived by two sons, Gary and wife Dean Flatt, Randy and wife Linda Flatt of Cookeville; and Daughter, Sandra Martin of Baxter. In Lue of Flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 11:00a.m. until time of services at 2:00pm.
A Funeral service for Andrew Jack Walker, 80 of Cookeville, will be at 2:00 PM on Thursday, April 1 at Crest Lawn Funeral Home with Bro. Carl Brown officiating. Interment will be in Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery. Mr. Walker passed away on Monday, March 29 at home with his family. Jack was a great husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He enjoyed his time walking at Cane Creek Park and would walk up to four miles at times. He and Kathy enjoyed going to Dolly Wood and spending time together. If there was a way to make you laugh he would do it. Jack is survived by his wife of 29 years, Kathy Sparks Walker; daughters, Jennifer Walker

Funeral services for Samuel (Sam) Lee Chaney, age 81 of Sparta, will be Friday April 2, 2021 at 1:00 P.M. Thurman Funeral Home. Interment will be at Davis Cemetery. She passed away on Sunday March 28, 2021 at Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville. He was born in Heening, TN to YZ and Flossie Chaney on October 18, 1939. Sam attended Lauderdale High School in Ripley, Tn. for his basic studies. Sam met the one and only Margie while he was working construction with the railroad system. They were married for 50 plus years. Sam would often tell his family that, “Granny robbed the cradle “due to the age difference and give that bashful smile. Sam worked at Thomas Industries and retired after 40 years with the company. He is survived by his daughter, Maxine Glimps. Visitation will be Friday April 2, 2021 at 12:00 P.M. till 1:00 P.M. at Thurman Funeral Home.

She was born March 23, 1938 in Jackson County, TN and she passed way on Sunday, March 28, 2021 at her residence at the age of 73. She was the daughter of Elmer Esters Hammock and Stella Mae Stafford Rhoten. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ. She was married to Charles Ward Scott who passed away on December 1, 2019. Survivors include two daughters, Lisa Rivera of Ontario, CA, and Davenna J. Weathers of Trona, CA. There will be no visitation at the funeral home.

Bobbie enjoyed spending time with her family and taking care of her grandchildren. She loved trips to the lake and enjoying the water. Benny Sells will officiate. Burial to follow in the Fiske Cemetery. Mr. Boles passed from this life on Tuesday morning, March 30 in Nashville. Joel enjoyed working on cars. He loved Harley-Davidson motorcycles, and enjoyed riding dirt bikes. Joel never met a stranger and enjoyed everyone he came in contact with. Joel leaves behind his mother, Jenny Reece. The family will welcome friends on Friday evening from 5 until 9 p.m. at Speck Funeral Home.

Burial will be held at a later date at the Hill Gunter Cemetery. LD Franklin passed from this life on March 30 at Livingston Regional Hospital. He was born in Alpine, Tennessee on January 1, 1936, the 10th of 11 children, to the late Andy and Hattie Sells Franklin. LD enjoyed spending time outdoors walking in the woods. He enjoyed sports – especially football. His grandchildren were the light of his life. LD leaves behind his wife, Judy Savage Franklin of Livingston; son, Scott Franklin and wife Lesia of Livingston; and daughter, Lesa Franklin of Nashville. Miss Scott passed away on Monday, March 22 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She was born May 15, 1956, in Jackson County. She was a factory worker at Crotty, and a member of the Assembly of God. Survivors include her daughter, Amy (Erik) Pryor Baxter of Mt. Juliet. The family has chosen cremation. He passed away on Monday, March 29, 2021 at Mabry Health Care Center in Gainesboro, TN. He was born April 16, 1938, in Plymouth, MI, to the late Donly S. Young and Mabel Garnet Kincaid Young. On April 16, 1960, he was married to Dorothy Anne Young, who survives. He was a journalist, and a member of the New Hope Baptist Church. Survivors include his Wife: Dorothy Anne Young of Gainesboro, TN; 2 Sons: Scott Sheridan Young of Dunlap, TN, and Robert Douglas Young of Spring Lake, MI; and 2 Daughters: Dawn Renee Agee of Cookeville, TN, and Kimberly Anne Croisant of Whitleyville, TN. A celebration of life for James Michael “Bobo” Borden, age 64 Of Cookeville, scheduled for Sunday, April 18th at Hidden Valley Golf & Country Club from 2pm-4pm. Mr. Morgan passed away on March 24th at Vanderbilt Medical Center. Michael was the General Manager of Hidden Valley Golf and Country Club for many years. He was also known as “Mr. White Plains” for the years he spent there. He was happiest on a beach, a golf course or watching the Florida Gators. He once asked the doctors if they were having trouble finding blood that was orange and blue. He was known for his sense of humor, funny one-liners and the stories he liked to tell over and over again. He was a big-hearted guy who touched many people’s lives with his kindness and generosity. He loved his family and his dogs and will be missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife Cristy; Stepson, Josh McDaniel; and his daughters, Kelli (Charles) Norris and Amanda Borden.
