Obituaries For Tuesday, September 22

Charlotte Ann Luger, age 72 of Cookeville, passed away Monday evening September 21, 2020 at her home. No services are planned.

A memorial service for Ray “Ed” England, 66, of Sparta, will be Wednesday, Sept. 23 from 10:00AM until 12:00PM at Thurman Funeral Home. Funeral services for friends and family will be held Wednesday, Sept. 23, at 12:00PM. Mr. England passed away Sunday, Sept. 20, 2020, at his home in Sparta. He is survived by his wife, Joanne England, and his mother, Helen England.

Funeral services for Mrs. Donna Leona Davison Hall, age 80 of Rickman, Overton Co., will be held on Wednesday, September 23, 2020 at 10 AM from the chapel of the Hall Funeral Home of Livingston with burial to follow in the New Hope Cemetery in Jackson Co. Mrs. Hall passed away Sunday, September 20, 2020at Sumner Regional Medical Center in Gallatin. Donna was a retired storeowner of Hall’s Market, also a retired Dietary Supervisor from Livingston Regional Hospital. She was a member of Allons Church of Christ. Donna loved her children and grandchildren very much. Donna will be greatly missed. She is survived be her two sons, Michael and Brian Hall; two Daughters, Karen Reeder, and Teresa Woodard. The family will welcome friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening, September 22nd starting at 6 PM to 9 PM. Officiating with the service will be Bro. Buddy Johnson

Funeral Services for Dickie Alfred Denton,64, of Doyle, will be held on Wednesday, September 23, 2020 at 1 p.m. at Oak Lawn Funeral Home with Bro. Derek Wilson and Bro, Bucky Floyd officiating with burial to follow at Copeland Chapel Cemetery. Mr. Denton passed away Monday, September 21, 2020 at his home in Doyle. He was born in Sparta on November 10, 1955 to Herman Denton and Lillie Ovean Luna Phifer. He is survived by his Wife, Martha Lou Denton, their children and 16 grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 22, 2020 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Funeral services for Donna Klora Vickers, age 45 of Baxter, will be conducted 1:00pm Wednesday, September 23, 2020 at the Rock Castle Emmanuel Church of Christ with burial to follow in Dobbs Cemetery. She passed away Friday, September 18, 2020 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Donna was born May 23, 1975 in Cookeville, Tennessee to the late Don Vickers and Linda Luttrell Vickers. She was a homemaker. She leaves behind her partner: Jordy Choate, Daughter: Lindsey Brown, Son: Landon Choate, Step-daughters: Melissa and Rose Choate. The family will receive friends after 5:00pm Tuesday and after 9:00am Wednesday at the church. Elder Fabon Nicholson will officiate. Fellowship with a pot luck meal will follow at Twin Oaks Community Center. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Donna Vickers Funeral Fund in care of Hunter Funeral Home.

Funeral Services For Allen E. Cravens, Age 94, Of Twinton Community Of Overton County, will Be Conducted On Wednesday, September 23, 2020, At 2:00 PM From The Chapel Of Goff Funeral Home. Rev. Robbie Miller Will Officiate With Interment To Follow In The Green Hill Cemetery In Alpine. With Full Military Honors Provided By The Veterans Honor Guard. Mr. Cravens Passed Away On Monday, September 21, 2020, at The Standing Stone Care And Rehabilitation Center. Mr. Cravens Was A Coal Miner And A Caretaker With Overton County Nursing Home. He Was A United States Army Veteran Serving Tour Of Duty During World War II. He Is Survived By, 1 Daughter And Son-In-Law, Patricia And David Dunn Of Monterey; 1 Son And Daughter-In-Law, Jerry And Elizabeth Cravens Of Lake Placid, FL. The Family Will Receive Friends At Goff Funeral Home On Tuesday, September 22, 2020, From 5:00 PM Until 7:00 PM.

Graveside Service for Phyllis Marie Dillon, 62 of Cookeville, will be held Thursday, September 24, 2020, at 11:00 am at Algood City Cemetery. Interment will follow. Phyllis was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mom, granny, aunt, and friend. She was a hard-working Christian woman, she loved music of all kinds, and enjoyed reading her Bible. She loved and cherished her beloved dog, Reese. Phyllis was loved by all that knew her and she will be greatly missed. Phyllis is survived by, 2 Children, David C Dillon Jr., and Brandy, and Robert Chad Dillon.

Funeral services for Richard Gist, 85 of Algood, will be at 1:00 PM on Thursday September 24, 2020 at Crest Lawn Funeral Home. Interment will be in Heritage Cemetery, Algood. Mr. Gist passed away on Wednesday, September 16, 2020. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Thursday, September 24, 2020, at Crest Lawn Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Mr. James Walter “Walt” Qualls, Sr., age 70 of Sparta, will be conducted 4:00pm Thursday, September 24, 2020 from the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home with burial to follow in Highland Cemetery. He passed away Friday evening at 8:15pm at his residence. Walt was born October 2, 1949 in White County to the late Clay and Aline Reece Qualls. He worked as a brick mason and lawn care provider for 40 years, including the grounds of Hunter Funeral Home. He enjoyed watching golf, NASCAR and western movies. He was a dedicated family man and a collector of knives. The family will receive friends Thursday from 2-4:00pm at Hunter Funeral Home. Nick Holman will officiate. Walt’s grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Funeral services for Mr. Thurman Julian, 78 of Baxter, will be held Friday, September 25th at 10:00 a.m. at the Baxter chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Smellage Memory Gardens. His family will receive friends Thursday evening, September 24th from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and again Friday morning from 8:00 a.m. until service time at the Baxter chapel. Mr. Julian died Sunday, September 20th at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville.

Funeral services for Patsy Jean Wilson, 81 of Algood, will be held Friday, September 25, 2020 beginning at 3:00 pm with Pastor Sam Scavo officiating. Interment will follow in Algood City Cemetery. She was a retired housekeeper from Cookeville General Hospital. She was also an avid animal lover and was a charter member of the Aunt Polly Order of Confederate Rose. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday, September 24, from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm and again Friday from 1:00 pm until time of service. Due to COVID 19, the family request that masks be worn for each individual’s protection.

A memorial service for Mr. Sammy Lee Webb, 72 of Cookeville, will be held on Saturday, September 26th at 2pm at Smyrna Church of Christ. Mr. Webb passed away Monday, September 21st from complications of COVID-19. Mr. Webb began teaching Social Studies at Cookeville High School in 1977 and retired in 2013. He began preaching at the age of 15 and preached at several churches of Christ in the area. He was the associate Minister at Smyrna Church of Christ for 33 years where he attended with his wife, Faith Maelene Young, whom he married on June 24th, 1977. He served in the U.S. Army from 1971 to 1973. His family includes his wife of 43 years, Faith Maelene Webb, sons Michael (Julie) Webb and Casey (Lexie) Webb, and three grand-children. A walk-through visitation will be held from 12-2pm at Smyrna Church of Christ on September 26th. The family respectfully asks that all attendees wear a mask and practice social distancing.

Memorial services for Tommie Harness Thackston, 81 of Cookeville, will be Saturday, September 26 at 7 PM at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston Horner Funeral Home. Rev. Kevin Conrad of the First United Methodist of Cookeville will officiate. Mrs. Thackston, passed very peacefully, Saturday, September 19, 2020 at her home surrounded by her family. Tommie got her BS from UT in Knoxville and Master’s Degree from ETSU. She taught in Johnson City, Knoxville, St. Louis, MO, Montgomery, Ala., Baxter, TN and Cookeville Nashville Tech before retiring. She was loved by her students. She taught math and chemistry for 36 years. Many of those years were at Upperman High School in Baxter. Tommie loved her family, in addition to husband, Charlie, her oldest son, Jeffrey Snoden Thackston, his wife Donna, and their 3 sons. The family will receive friends from 5 PM until service time. Due to COVID-19, social distancing will be observed.

Graveside services for Peggy Lee Carter Roark, age 81 of Gainesboro, will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2020 at 1 PM at John L. Clark Memorial Cemetery. Rev. Steven VanHooser will officiate the service. Roark was born March 3, 1939 in Jackson County, TN and she passed away on Sunday, September 20, 2020 at NHC Healthcare in Smithville at the age of 81. Peggy was the daughter of Clarance Haggard Carter and Effie Lee Kirby Carter. Peggy was a member of the Church of Christ and was a retired legal secretary. A lifelong resident of Jackson County she was a devoted mother, grandmother and avid reader. On October 3, 1958 she married Ray Jackson Roark. Visitation will be Saturday, October 3, 2020 from 10 am to 12:45 pm at Anderson Upper Cumberland Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
