Pastor Billy Kemp Will Officiate With Interment To Follow In The New Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Austin Was Born On November 22, 1946, To The Late Elisha And Zdenka Zizka “Mimmie” Lockwood. Mrs. Austin Took Her Angel Wings On Friday, January 10, 2020, At The Cumberland Medical Center Surrounded By Her Loving Husband And Loving Family Members After A Brief Stay At The Hospital. Mrs. Austin Was A Human Resource Specialist At Avery-Dennison (Carter Ink) For Over 30 Years. She Attended Central Baptist Church. She Loved Cooking, Crocheting, Knitting, Reading And Watching Old Movies, Such As Gone With The Wind. She Was Loved By Everyone She Came In Contact With. She Is Survived By Her Husband Of 47 Years, Robert “Bob” Austin Of The Pleasant Hill Community; Bob’s Children, David (Diane) Austin, Mike (Wilma, Deceased) Austin, Allen (Darlene) Austin, Danny (Mary) Austin, Debbie (Rick) Nail; Daughter, Ashlara Austin; 14 Grandchildren; 17 Great Grandchildren; 2 Sisters, Famey Lanora Lockwood And Rose (George) Pietrogallo; Brother, John E. Celebration of Life for Lillian Jeanette Weeks Phillips, age 89, of Cookeville, will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday January 15 in the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home. Rev. Bill Stone will officiate. Her family will receive friends Wednesday from 11 a.m. until service time. Jeanette passed to her Lord Saturday January 11, 2020, holding her daughter Jeanine’s hand. She was the daughter of Esther Lee Jacks Weeks and Herbert Daniel Weeks, born March 7th, 1930.Jeanette was born in Stewart Mississippi in the original log cabin her great-great grand father built when the Jacks family moved in Mississippi in the 1830s. Jeanette’s parents were sharecroppers in the Mississippi Delta during the Great Depression. Jeanette helped raise the six younger children in this ten child family while her parents worked in the fields. She moved to Memphis after the war and worked as a secretary at Greyhound, sending 15$ a month back to Big Mama to care for her family, as her father passed in 1949. Jeanette worked at Southern Bell for 20 years, retiring to Tennessee where she loved her friends, family and Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church. She is survived by two sons, Steve Phillips (wife, Kay) of Cookeville; daughter, Jeanine Cleveland (husband, Ben) of Millerville, AL; daughter-in-law, Jane Phillips of Athens, TN; three brothers, Jimmy Weeks of Vicksburg, MS, Kenneth Weeks (wife, Kay) of Gainesville, GA, and Darry Joe Weeks of Vicksburg, MS; sister, Marjorie Christy of Jackson, MS; fourteen grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. Funeral services for Mr. Curtis Allen Halliman, age 56 of Sparta, will be conducted 1:00pm Wednesday, January 15, 2020 from the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home with burial in Simmons Cemetery. He passed away on Saturday January 11, 2020 at his residence. Curtis was born June 12, 1964 in Paducah, Kentucky to the late Jerry Allen Halliman and Linda Lee Payne Halliman. He worked as a crew chief of an installation team for Fixtur World. He loved his corvette and watching football. Survivors include his former wife and best friend Judy Simmons; Step-daughter: Misty Michelle (David) Hall and her children, Paul Johnson, Sonia Hernandez, Jesse Hall; Step-daughter: Joy Nicole Hunter and her two children. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 4-8:00pm at Hunter Funeral Home. Roger Simmons will officiate. Jim A. Short, Mike Jared, Bill Frasier, David Hall will serve as pallbearers.
Funeral services for Janie Lee Brown, 82 of Baxter, will be Wednesday, January 15 at 1 PM at Baxter Chapel of Hooper Huddleston Horner Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Double Springs Cemetery. Bro. Vince Whipp and Bro. Larry Vaught will officiate. Mrs. Brown died Saturday, January 11, 2020 in NHC Healthcare of Cookeville. She was born March 7, 1937 in Smith County to the late Jessie Leon Bush and Georgia Verda Scarlett Bush. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Freeman Brown on October 1, 2009, a brother Bobby Bush. She was a graduate of Baxter Seminary. She was a retired assembler with Fleetguard/Cummins Filtration with 33 years of service. She enjoyed reading, working in her flower garden, music of all kinds, especially old country and bluegrass. Survivors include daughter and son-in-law Myra and Daryl Phillips of Sparta, son and daughter-in-law Michael Freeman and Rita Brown of Cookeville, grandson Michael Freeman, Jr. of Franklin, step grandson Eric Phillips of Texas, brother Jerry Bush of Sparta, several nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends Tuesday from 5 to 8 PM and after 11 AM Wednesday at the funeral home.
Funeral Service for Ronald “Ron” Lee Hoffman, 77 of Cookeville, will be held Wednesday, January 15, 2020, at 1:00 PM from the Heavenly Host Lutheran Church with Pastor Andrew Smith officiating. He passed from this life on Tuesday, January 7, 2020, at H Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute Hospital in Tampa, Florida. Ron was born April 30, 1942, in Ridgeville Corners, Ohio to the late George and Tillie (Cordes) Hoffman. Ron was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, and friend to all. He was very kind and giving to everyone he came in contact with. Ron was very active with the Heavenly Host Lutheran Church. He was loved by all that knew him and he will be greatly missed. Ron is survived by, Wife, Linda Hoffman, 3 Boys, Dean and Cindy Hoffman, David Hoffman, and Dan and Mary Hoffman, 4 Grandchildren, Kelly, Christopher, Holly, and Lindsey Hoffman; and 3 Sisters, Nancy and Jim Hogrefe, Pat and Larry Mahnke, and Diane Weires-Haynes and Chuck. In addition to his parents, Ron was preceded in death by, First Wife, Marci Hoffman. He was born April 26, 1936, in Jackson County, TN, to the late Bennie Way and Beulah Way. He was married to Clara Jean Way, who survives. He was the owner of Way’s Custom Shop, making custom draperies. He was a member of the Sycamore Church of Christ. The Funeral Service for Wesley “Dillard” Johnson, 81, of Sparta, will be Thursday, January 16, 2020 at 1 pm with visitation before service with burial to follow at Plainview- Cemetery in the Cassville Community. The service will be officiated by Rev. Tracy Curtis, Rev. David England and Rev. Eugene Lawson. He crossed over from his earthly home into his heavenly home and entered his Saviors presence on Sunday, January 12, 2020 at his residence in Sparta. Dillard was born on May 13, 1938 to the late George Virgil and Jessie Lena Brown Johnson in Sparta, TN. At 19 he accepted the call to preach. He was a Freewill Baptist minister for 46 years. He was also a veteran of the Korean War and served state side. He had many other jobs along with pastoring. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his; Brother- James Harold Johnson. First Wife of 46 years- Aline Holloway Johnson, Brother- George Johnson and Brother-in-laws- Gene Johnson and Cordell Holloway. Survivors include; Wife of 15 years- Rita Johnson of Sparta; Daughter- Rena Johnson of Gallatin; Step-Daughter- Crystal Hutchings of Sparta; Granddaughter- Latisha Tower (Dale Harris) of Cookeville; Grandsons- Landon, Layne, Laken, and Lawrance Johnson of Gallatin; Great-Granddaughter- Lidia Tower of Cookeville; Great-Grandson-Braxton Tower of Cookeville; Sisters- Elega Hobbs (Morris) of Spencer, Val Johnson of Sparta, Vonda Jones (Rex) of McMinnville, June Springer of Sparta, and Sherry Mooneyham of Sparta; Sister-in-laws- Mary Glenn Johnson of Warren, Michigan, Betty Davis Johnson, Bessie Holloway England (David), Janice Pittman (Ron), Karen Ward (Mark) all of Sparta, Debbie Hutchings (Wayne) of Quebeck; Brother-in-laws- Delbert Holloway of Monterey, Levon Maynard (Rosie) and Jimmy Maynard of Sparta. He was born Friday, April 5, 1968 in Cookeville, Tennessee, he was the son of Lynn Thomas and the late Judith Anderson Thomas. Mr. Thomas was a loving Father, Son, Brother and friend to all who knew him. He loved Nascar Racing, Wrestling, Bowling, and Cooking. He used to bowl on a league before he became disabled. In addition to his father, he is survived by: 1 Son and daughter-in-law: Robert and Lisa Violette of Sparta; Stepmother: Latane Thomas of Baxter; 1 Sister: Stefanie Janko of Cookeville; 1 Step-sister and spouse: Misty and Jason Carr of Baxter. A memorial service for Mrs. Wanda Beverly Lundskog, age 93 of Cookeville, will be held Sunday, January 19, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. in the downstairs chapel of Cookeville First Baptist Church. Mrs. Lundskog died Saturday January 11, 2020 at Bethesda Health Care and Rehabilitation Center. She was born May 8, 1926 in Salt Lake City, UT to the late Earl and Alta Oakden Barns. She was a resident of Utah until 1998 and lived in Colorado before moving to Cookeville in 2008. Wanda had a sweet and kind nature. Seemingly always happy, she loved to laugh-and laughed often! She made the best of circumstances, whatever they may be. She was a great cook and enjoyed baking with her favorite ingredient, chocolate. Wanda’s quite strength came from her faith and love of her Lord, Jesus Christ. She enjoyed friendship and fellowship from the people at Cookeville First Baptist Church where she attended. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Eddie Lundskog; son, Lee Lundskog; daughter, Minnie Loiselle; and by sister, Muriel Dutton. She is survived by daughters, Janet Doxsee of Cookeville, Beverly Willardson and Joan Scott; brother, Vernon Lundskog, all of Salt Lake City; sister, Alta Godwin of Washington state; and by several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
