Obituaries For Tuesday, August 10

Mrs. Martha Wagner, 72 of Baxter, died Monday morning August 9 in Signature Health Care of Putnam County inn Algood. Arrangements are incomplete.

Funeral services for Mr. Bill W. Ragland, age 78 of Jackson County, will be conducted at 12 noon on Wednesday, August 11, 2021 in the Chapel of Anderson Upper Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. Johnny Fox and Tommy Pedigo officiating. Burial will follow with military honors at John L. Clark Memorial Cemetery. He was born May 30, 1943 in Jackson County, TN and he passed away on Saturday, August 7, 2021 at Signature Healthcare of Putnam County in Algood, TN at the age of 78. Mr. Bill was the son of George William and Lassie York Ragland. He was a member of the Church of Christ and a retired hospital administrator. Mr. Ragland served in the US Army during the Vietnam Conflict. Survivors include very loving and caring companion, Betty Lacy of Cookeville, daughter, Laura Ragland of Florida. Visitation will be on Tuesday, August 10, 2021 from 4-8 pm and on Wednesday, August 11, 2021 from 10 am to 12 noon.

Funeral services for James Howard Martin II , age 35 of Gainesboro, will be held Wednesday, August 11 beginning at 1:00 pm from the Chapel of Crest Lawn Funeral Home with Lakeland Barham officiating. Interment will follow in Pharris Cemetery in Jackson County. Mr. Martin passed from this life Saturday, August 7 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center in Cookeville. Born Friday, April 18, 1986 in Livingston, Tennessee, he was the son of James Martin and Sherry Harper Apple. James is survived by his mother, Sherry Jean Apple; father, James H. Martin; and his children, Diesel and Derrick Martin. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday, August 11, from 11:00 am until the time of service at 1:00 pm.

Funeral Services for William Roy Jackson, better know to most as “Pa Roy,” age 99 of Livingston, will be held Wednesday, 2 PM at Holly Springs Church of Christ. Burial will be in Holly Springs Cemetery. He was born to R.D. Jackson and Beulah Walker Jackson. Pa Roy was born July 30, 1932, and saw the face of Jesus on August 9, 2021. He leaves behind his devoted sidekick, Birdie Gore Jackson, 2 daughters and their husbands, Kathy Sullivan (husband, Mike) and Billie Rooker (husband, Tommy). Roy was one of the hardest working men you could ever meet. He was born into a poor family and lost his mom at the age of 4 to tuberculosis. He had an 8th grade education. He married the love of his life, Birdie, when he was 19 and Granny was 16. They grew up together and raised their two girls. Pa Roy worked in furniture manufacturing until he retired and became granny’s sidekick on the farm. He served his Lord and Savior faithfully for decades. He loved the Lord, Granny, and his family with all he had. They were married for 67 years. He and Granny had a bond that many today could never dream of. However, Pa knew who was the boss, and it was not him. He instilled working hard to his girls, both in school, in basketball, and in life. He instilled the Love of Christ that will bloom for generations to come. Pallbearers to serve are Bryan and Matthew Rooker, Tyler Sullivan, and Robert, Jackson, Thomas, and William Case, and Tim Cowan. Honorary Pallbearers will be Connor and Carter Cowan, Savannah Rooker, Jaxson and Addison Sullivan, and Branson Miller and Pa’s “other son” John Stephens. Visitation for Pa Roy will be Wednesday at 11 AM until service time. Brother Bobby Gore and Brother Bruce Mullinix will officiate the service.

Memorial services for Marion Lela Bohannon, age 101 of Cookeville, will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday August 11 at Hooper Huddleston Horner Funeral Home. Bro. Gary Lee will officiate. An Order of Eastern Star Ceremony will begin at 6:15 p.m. Mrs. Bohannon passed away Saturday July 17 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Bohannon was a member of Salem Church in Cookeville. She served on various community boards including Cookeville Rescue Mission, Salvation Army, and Putnam County Clearing House. She was a member of American Legion Auxiliary Post 46, Putnam County Kiwanis, and Past Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 152. She is survived by her grandson, Erik (Shannon) Augustson. Memorial contributions may be made to Putnam County Kiwanis, P.O. Box 9, Cookeville, TN 38503; or an organization of choice. Visitation for family and friends will be Wednesday from 5:30 p.m. until time of services.

Pastor Terry McCloud Will Officiate With Interment To Follow In The Woodcliff Cemetery. Ms. Grant Was Born On Sunday, February 20, 1944, In Tennessee, To The Late James Chauncy And Versa Anne Stout McDonald. Ms. Grant Passed Away On Sunday, August 8, 2021, At Saint Thomas Hospital West In Nashville, Tennessee. Ms. Grant Was Owner/Operator Of Towne And Country Flowers. She Was An Entrepreneur And Owner/Operator Of Several Businesses. She Was A Member Of Woodcliff Baptist Church. She Is Survived By, 2 Sons And A Daughter-In-Law, Johnny And Renea Grant Of Cookeville, TN, Jerry Grant Of Cookeville, TN; Granddaughter, Madison Grant Of Cookeville, TN; Sister And Brother-In-Law, Mary Ann And Jack Slaton Of Cookeville, TN; Brother And Sister-In-Law, Bruce And Justean McDonald Of Monterey, TN; Sisters With Different Mothers, Barbara Verble, Linda Swafford, And Mertie Walker All Of Monterey, TN; Special Extended Family Member, Peyton Welch Of Monterey, TN; Several Nieces And Nephews. In Addition To Her Parents, She Was Preceded In Death By Her Son, Jeff Grant; An Infant Brother, Sammie McDonald; And Stepmother, Linnie Bowman McDonald. The Family Will Receive Friends At Goff Funeral Home On Wednesday, August 11, 2021, From 5:00 PM Until 8:00 PM.

Funeral services for Mrs. Rebekah Ann Bull, age 60 of Cookeville, will be held on Thursday, August 12 at 2 PM from the Standing Stone Praise and Worship Center with burial to follow in the Old Union Cemetery in Overton Co. Mrs. Bull passed away on Monday, August 9 at the Saint Thomas Midtown Hospital. Rebekah worked in home health. First of all Rebekah loved her Lord and Savior very much, and she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother to her loving family, and was always willing to help someone in need. She will be greatly missed by her family and church family very much. She is survived by her husband, Donnie Bull; and their seven children, Deborah (Brian) Langford, Samantha (Storm) Wright, David (Christy) Bull, Andrew Bull, Parker Bull, Eli Bull, and Mikey Bull. Family will welcome friends at the church on Wednesday evening August 11th starting at 3 PM until 9 PM.

Funeral services for Margie Marie Christian, 73 of Buffalo Valley, will be Thursday, August 12 at 2 PM at the Baxter Chapel of Hooper Huddleston Horner Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Gordonsville Cemetery in Smith County, TN. Rev. Shane Gregory will officiate. Mrs. Christian died Monday, August 9, 2021 in Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville. Margie was a member of South Carthage Missionary Baptist Church. Margie had worked in the past as a waitress at Shoney’s and also at McDonald’s of Gordonsville.
She enjoyed tending to her flowers, gardening, reading, doing crossword puzzles, watching nature shows on TV. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially the grandkids and on the farm with Roy. Margie truly was a “people person”. Her favorite flower was lilac and her favorite color was green. Survivors include husband of 50 years (Married December 19, 1970) Roy Christian of Buffalo Valley, and daughters Kay (Glenn) Doolittle of Gordonsville, and Karen (James) Wisniewski of Carthage. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 3 to 8 PM and after 10 AM Thursday until service time at the funeral home.

Funeral services for Mrs. Barbara Ann Owens Rittenberry, age 76 of Livingston, will be Thursday, August 12, 2021 at 1 PM at the Milton Church of Christ located at 12155 Lascassas Pike, Milton, TN. Burial to follow in the Fairview Cemetery in Norene, Wilson Co., TN . Officiating with the service will be Bro. Teb Batey. The beloved wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, aunt, and friend, closed her eyes on earth and opened them in the arms of her Savior at 10:45 Am on Friday, August 6, 2021. Barbara Ann Owens Rittenberry was born in Nashville, Davidson Co., TN on Tuesday, November 21, 1944 to the late James Edwin and Margaret (Benson) Owens. She put her faith in Christ at an early age and followed Him until the end of her life. She was a member of Milton Church of Christ, and retired from the State of Tennessee. She loved nothing more than cooking for and spending time with her family, and have them all gathered around her table enjoying her delicious food, her family, her children and grandchildren, were the most wonderfully precious thing in her life, our sweet memories of the times we spent with her are forever engraved in our hearts, while we grieve her absence from us, we know that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord, and rejoice that she will never again know pain. Survivors include her husband of 39 years; Roger Rittenberry; 3 Daughters: Lisa (Tim) Duncan, Lynn (Roger) Lay, Carol Rittenberry; 5 Sons: Stephen (Kim) Clark, Brian (Angela) Clark, Jay (Kasha) Rittenberry, Mike Rittenberry, Roy Rittenberry. Visitation will be held at the Milton Church of Christ with family welcoming friends on Wednesday, August 11th starting at 3 PM until 8 PM, then on Thursday, August 12th starting at 12 noon until service time at 1 PM.

Funeral services for Mr. Albert Ray “Chino” Western, age 55 of Cookeville, will be held Friday, August 13th at 11:00 a.m. at the Cookeville chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. He died Friday afternoon, August 6th at his residence. His family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the funeral home. His family will receive friends Thursday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and again Friday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Celebration of Life Services for Mrs. Carol Sue Copeland, age 78 of Cookeville, will be conducted 11 a.m., Saturday, August 14 from the Livingston First Christian Church. Bro. Scott Copeland will officiate. Mrs. Carol Sue Copeland passed from this life on Wednesday, January 19, 2021 from the Cookeville Regional Medical Center from complications of COVID pneumonia. She grew up in Livingston, Tennessee and excelled academically, was well liked and had many friends. She was a cheerleader for Livingston Academy High School. Sue and Steve married at age 19 and Sue worked to support Steve through college at Tennessee Tech University and the Veterinary School at Auburn University, all while raising their young sons. When Steve completed his education at Auburn, the family returned to the Upper Cumberland, settled in Cookeville and established Copeland Veterinary Hospital. Sue was instrumental in the success of the practice and essentially did everything including managing the front desk, keeping the books, and assisting in the treatment areas as well as the kennel. Steve has always said that he gives credit to Sue for the success of Copeland Veterinary Hospital. She is Survived by her husband, Dr. Steve Copeland D.V.M; and, sons Dr. Scott (Mona) Copeland M.D., and Steven R. Copeland all of Cookeville. The family will welcome friends at the time of services.
