Gerald “Jerry” Bowler, age 76, of the Cumberland Cove Community of Monterey, passed away on Friday, September 15, 2023, at his home. Mr. Bowler was born on Saturday, June 28, 1947, in Newberry, Michigan, to the late Frank and Emma Coates Bowler. Mr. Bowler was a retired Kitchen Supervisor working for the State of Michigan. He was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Crossville serving on the Building and Grounds Committee. He was a former member of Mattawan Community Church in Michigan where he served as a Deacon. He is survived by his wife, Becky Bowler of the Cumberland Cove Community; daughter, Lynette and Jim Ross of Alanson, MI; son, Blaine Bowler of Petosky, MI; stepson, Sam Britt of Grand Rapids, MI; granddaughter, Ashleigh Ross of Alanson, MI; 3 sisters; In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 1 brother, and 5 sisters. His wishes of cremation are being honored with Celebration of Life Services to be announced at a later date.
Visitation for Fowler Boyd Lawson will be on Saturday, September 23, 2023, from 10 A.M. until time of services. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 23, 2023, at 3 P.M. at Anderson Upper Cumberland Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Peek Cemetery. Fowler Boyd Lawson was born January 13, 1949, in Jackson County, TN, and he passed away on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, at his residence in the Fairview Community at the age of 74. He was the son of the late Walter Lawson and Eva Nell Fox. On October 14, 1996, he was married to the late Pamela Lawson, who passed away April, 27, 2022. He was an automotive factory worker. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his Step-Father: Alson Fox; Sons: Eugene Lawson and Troy Lawson; Grandson: Josh Lawson; and Granddaughter: Ryleigh Lawson. Survivors include his Sons: James Lawson, Terry Allen, Justin Bronson; Bonus Son: David Bronson; Daughters: Angela Howard, Jessica Smith, Chelsea Walker; Brother: Bill Sullivan; Sisters: Carolyn Rudd, Debbie O’Toole, and DeWanna Hewitt; Daughters-in-law: Brenda Lawson, Jodi Lawson and Connie Wheeler; Care-giver and special friend, Sherry Duhon; Grandchildren, Shawn Lawson, Danielle Lawson, Crystal Arlington, Mikey Lawson,, Maycee Lawson, Tyler Allen, Zach Allen, Wyatt Baylor Smith, Allison Brooke Kinney, Austin Osier, Willow Chiellot, Billy Brooks, Zoey Lawson, Korrie Lawson, Aubriee Lawson, Talieha Howard, Alexis Robb, Elisha Scaggs, Tristan Gentry, and Joseph Lawson; and several Great-Grandchildren. Graveside Service for Zella Lee Allen, 92 of Jackson County, will be held Friday, September 22, 2023 at 1:00 pm at Dodson Branch Cemetery. Mrs. Allen passed away on Saturday, September 16. She is survived by her children, Tammy Necessary and Marc (Amanda) Allen.
The family of Harlan Cumby Sr. will receive friends at Goff Funeral Home on Friday, September 22, 2023, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Funeral Services for Harlan Cumby Sr., age 76, of the Rocky Point Community, will be conducted on Saturday, September 23, 2023, at 11:00 AM from The Chapel of Goff Funeral Home. Rev. David Harris and Pastor Jeff Masters will officiate with interment to follow in the Salem Cemetery. Mr. Cumby was born on Monday, April 14, 1947, in Cookeville, Tennessee, to the late Willie J. “Bill” and Dimple Ramsey Cumby. Mr. Cumby passed away on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, at Select Specialty Hospital in Knoxville, Tennessee. Mr. Cumby was a truck driver and a farmer. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He loved his family and grandchildren and would do everything to be sure they were all taken care of. He was an avid hunter and loved his chickens and his dog. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Elese Masters Cumby of the Rocky Point Community; 1 son and daughter-in-law, Harlan Jr. “Harley” and Amy Cumby of the Rocky Point Community; 2 grandsons, Trenton Cumby and Ethan Cumby; and a host of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Wanda Jean Buckner and Linda Rice; and 1 brother, Jim Cumby.
Funeral Service for Ruth Merlin Foster, 97 of Cookeville, will be held Saturday, September 23, 2023, at 2:00 pm from the chapel of Crest Lawn Funeral Home with Rev. Hailey Robinson officiating. Interment will follow in the Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery. Mrs. Foster passed from this life on Monday, September 18, 2023, at Uplands Village in Pleasant Hill. Ruth was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. She attended the Cookeville First United Methodist Church for 60 years where she was a member of the Backsliders Class. She was a member of the Eastern Star and the Cookeville Country Club. She was well known for her knitting and her Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls. She was loved by all that knew her, and she will be greatly missed. Ruth is survived by her children, Dianne (Lance) Limoges, Richard (Carolyn), Leon (Vicki) Foster and Virginia “Ginny” (Chris) Ellis. Visitation with the family will be held Saturday, September 23, 2023, from 11:00 am until the time of service at 2:00 pm at Crest Lawn Funeral Home.
The family of Allen Howard Allison, age 86 of Cookeville, will hold a public visitation in memory of him on Saturday, September 23, 2023, from 3:00-6:00pm at Whitson Funeral Home. No services will be held. Mr. Allison passed away on September 10, 2023, at the Bethesda Healthcare in Cookeville. Allen Howard Allison was born on March 6, 1937, in Cookeville, to the late John Howard and Carrie Ella (Allen) Allison. He worked in the newspaper industry with circulation. Several newspaper affiliates he worked for were the Gannett, Banner, & Tennessean. Howard was a lifetime resident of Putnam County, and of the Protestant faith. In addition to his parents, Howard was preceded in death by his brother: Albert Glen Allison and sister: Johnie Ruth Allison Maddux Knowles. He is survived by his wife: Sharon D. Martin; Stepdaughter: Whitney Martin Chandler of Oviedo, Fla; Two Grandchildren: Aydan D. Chandler and Ayvree D. Chandler.

Mr. Thompson was born on Sunday, December 13, 1953, in Portland, Indiana, to the late John and Doris Wright Thompson. Mr. Thompson passed away on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, at his home. Mr. Thompson was a custom cabinet finisher. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was a member of the Monterey Assembly of God. He is survived by his wife of almost 52 years, Janet Phillips Thompson of Livingston, TN; daughter and son-in-law, Carrie and Jack Stafford of Lebanon, TN; sons, Chris (Andrea) Thompson of Cookeville, TN, Brad Thompson of Sparta, TN; grandchildren, Nick Thompson, Marissa (Joe) Earley, Elijah Reagan, Brandon (Stephanie) Thompson, Austin Thompson, Levi Thompson, Hunter (Hannah) Randolph; 5 great grandchildren; sisters, Karen Garrett of Indiana, Barbara Blankenship of Indiana; brother, Gale “Tom” Thompson of Georgia; special friend and coworker, Letcher Dishman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 7 siblings.

Interment will follow in the Paran Cemetery. Charles Tracy Holloway (85) of Cookeville, TN, passed away on September 17, 2023 in his home surrounded by his family. Known as Chuck or Chucky, he was born on March 13, 1938 in Duncan’s Chapel Community and was a gifted musician with the smoothest voice who shared the gospel through music for many years. In his later life, he cherished family moments, played bass guitar at church, and cared for his friends. Chuck is survived by his children: Laura Burchfield; Gyla and Sam Weiss; Tracey and Dale Karthauser; Derek and Lindsay Holloway; his grandchildren: Nathan Burchfield, Jessica North, Eric Schmitt, Jenell Schmitt, Heather Blasi, and Morgan Holloway, and great-grandchildren Sydney, Christian, Jude, Uriah, Zion, Jordan, and Anna. Chuck was proceeded in death by his parents: Vallie and Charlie Holloway and siblings: Lavada, Earl, Pearl, Dee, and Bobby. Chuck was a passionate advocate for Christ’s love and known for his infectious personality, smile, and laughter that brightened every room. He inherited his kindness from his mother and his great sense of humor from his father. Despite his health challenges he maintained his humor, especially with his family. He had a great ability to make others smile and his sense of humor will be greatly missed. Special thank you to those who visited Chuck and to John and Thelma Yates, Lora Loftis, and Patsy Hedgecough for caring for him in his last days and supporting us.
A celebration of life for Margie C. Dyer, 89 of Cookeville, will be held Saturday, September 30, 2023, at 11 A.M. at Union Hill Church of Christ, Bloomington Springs. Bro Randy Bybee from Pippin Church of Christ, her home congregation, will officiate. Mrs. Dyer passed away on Thursday, September 14, 2023 at her residence in Cookeville. She was married to the late Harold W. Dyer. She worked in retail and was a homemaker, and a member of the Pippin Church of Christ. She is survived by her daughters, Pam (Ronald L.) Winningham, and Vickie (Lance) Wells. The family has chosen cremation.
