Obituaries For Tuesday, July 19

Funeral services for Mr. Samuel Paul Talent, age 70 of Cookeville, will be held Wednesday, July 20, at 11:00 a.m., at the Cookeville chapel of Hooper-Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Algood City Cemetery. Mr. Talent passed away Friday July 15, 2022, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Visitation will be held Tuesday, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., and Wednesday, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service.

Funeral services for Mr. Wayne Eugene Burton, age 86 of Algood, will be held Wednesday, July 20, at 3:00 p.m., at the Cookeville chapel of Hooper-Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Algood City Cemetery. Mr. Burton passed away Saturday July 16, 2022, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was born March 27, 1936, in Claiborne County, the son of the late Stephen Decatur Burton and Della Lenoir Oxford Burton. Wayne worked for AFLAC insurance for many years. He loved the outdoors, and was an avid fisherman, hunter, and golfer. Survivors include three sons, Stanley (Cindy) Burton and Chris (Denise) Burton, both of Cookeville, and Jeff (Tammy) Burton of Eagleville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Mary Dixon Burton. Visitation will be held Wednesday, from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Memorial contributions may be made to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, www.stjude.org.

Funeral services for Mrs. Geneva England Cotten, age 93 of Sparta, will be held Wednesday, July 20, at 3:00 p.m., at First United Methodist Church in Sparta. Burial will follow in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery. Mrs. Cotten passed away Sunday, July 17, 2022, at Life Care Center of Sparta. She was born June 4, 1929, in Detroit, MI, the daughter of the late William Matthew England and Verla Norris England. Mrs. Cotten was a retired school teacher of 35 years. She worked for American Red Cross blood drive for 30 years, and also served on the fair board for 35 years. Survivors include two sons, Kenneth (Norma) Cotten and Richard (Heather) Cotten. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Albert Kenneth Cotten. Visitation will be held Tuesday, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at Hunter Funeral Home, and Wednesday, from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Red Cross, St. Jude Hospital, or the White County Library.

Funeral services for Mrs. Billie Dove Powell Bohannon, age 94 of Sparta, will be held Thursday, July 21, at 11:00 a.m., at Sparta First United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery. Mrs. Bohannon passed away Sunday, July 17, 2022, at Life Care Center of Sparta. She was born October 16, 1927. Mrs. Bohannon was a retired banker for the old First National Bank. She was preceded in death by her, husband R.E. Bohannon; a daughter, Debbie Sicola. Visitation will be held Thursday, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service, at the church.

A memorial service for Mr. Richard Percy White, age 84 of Cookeville, will be held Thursday, July 21, at 12:00 p.m. at Stevens Street Baptist Church. Mr. White passed away Thursday, June 30, 2022, at his home. He  was born April 23, 1938, in Nashville, the son of the late Harold and Christine White. He served in the United States Navy from 1956 to 1960 aboard the U.S.S. Warrick. During his service, he was on the Navy Boxing Team and received the Navy Expert Pistol Shot Medal. Richard owned several small businesses and also worked at the Nashville Ford Glass Plant. He attended Stevens Street Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Beverly Swafford White; two sons, Jesse Dean (Debbie) White and Harold Bryant (Susan) White. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Jesse Todd White. Visitation will be held Thursday, from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service.

Funeral services for Mr. Gary Gene Mabe, age 47 of Sparta, will be held Thursday, July 21, at 1:00 p.m., in the chapel of Hunter Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Taylor’s Providence Cemetery. Mr. Mabe passed away Thursday, July 14, 2022, at his residence. He was born February 22, 1975, in Sparta, the son of Elsie Brymer Gentry and the late Calvin Gene Mabe. Gary was an avid hunter and fisherman. In addition to his mother, survivors include his wife, Sherri Mabe; a son, James Mabe; a daughter, Kaylee Mabe; two stepdaughters, Tiffany (Dusty) Elkins and Beth (Casey) Young. Visitation will be held Wednesday, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Funeral services for Ms. Amber Lynn York, age 40 of Doyle, will be held Friday, July 22, at 11:00 a.m., at Oak Lawn Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Oak Lawn Memorial Cemetery. Ms. York passed away Saturday, July 16, 2022, at Saint Thomas Highlands Hospital in Sparta. She was born August 22, 1981, in Metairie, LA, the daughter of Michael and Kitty Richard Villeret of Doyle. Amber enjoyed singing car karaoke, hosting family gatherings, traveling, and helping others. In addition to her parents, survivors include her partner, Brandon Prater of Doyle; three daughters, Skylar (Travis) Parrish of Oak Grove, KY, Jaycee York and Ramsey Prater, both of Doyle; a son, Kyler Prater of Doyle. Visitation will be held Thursday, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Funeral services for Mr. Jeremy Michael Maxwell, age 39 of Baxter, will be held Friday, July 22, at 1:00 p.m., at the Baxter chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Maxwell South Cemetery, with military honors provided by the Veterans Honor Guard. Mr. Maxwell passed away Friday, July 15, 2022, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was born April 10, 1983, in Cookeville, the son of Brenda Kincaid Herrin and Michael Dwight Maxwell, both of Baxter. Jeremy was a 2001 graduate of Upperman High School. He retired in 2022 with 20-plus years of service with the United States Navy on board the U.S.S. New Hampshire Submarine as a Sonar Technician. In addition to his parents, survivors include his wife of 19 years, Dana Crook Maxwell of Baxter; a daughter Caitlyn Maxwell of Baxter; a son, Cody Maxwell of Baxter. Visitation will be held Thursday, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., and Friday, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.

Celebration of Life services for Ms. Sue Parr Zabel, age 75 of Livingston, will be held Saturday, July 23, at 2:00 p.m., in the chapel of Speck Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Holly Springs Cemetery. Ms. Zabel passed away June 19, 2022, at NHC Healthcare in Cookeville. She was born November 6, 1946, in Roseburg, OR, the daughter of the late Henry and Bonnie Jean Churchill Krohn. Sue loved fishing, gardening, cooking gourmet meals, spending time with her family and playing golf. Survivors include her life partner, Norman Miller of Livingston; a son, Scott (Carol) Parr of Livingston. In addition to her parents, Ms. Zabel was preceded in death by a daughter, Lori Jean Parr. Visitation will be held Saturday, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
