Obituaries For Wednesday, July 26

Gary Allen Cherry, age 70 of Sparta, passed away on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, at his home. He was born November 20, 1952 in Herrin, Illinois, and he was the son of the late Lawrence Cherry and the late Mandi Cathey Cherry. He served in the United States Army and a Vietnam Veteran. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by grandson, Austin Cherry and granddaughter, Yasmeen Cherry. Survivors include: Wife- Delores Cherry of Sparta; Sons- Christopher Cherry (Taunia) of Fishtail, MT and Douglas Cherry of Livingston; Daughters- Melissa Mathis of Smithville, and Sabrina Amann of Cookeville; Grandsons- Lance Cherry, Logan Cherry, Lucas Cherry, Garak Rosser, Quinn Rosser, Chayton Cherry, and Kristian Mathis; Granddaughter- Addison Cherry; Great-Grandsons- Jaxon Amann and Levi Cherry; Special Friends- Scottie, Lavonia, and Aaron Matthew Judd and Kim Brock. The family has chosen cremation. No services are scheduled at this time.

George Miller, age 80, of Monterey, passed away Tuesday, July 25, 2023 at the Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

Graveside Services for Anna Pearl Flatt, age 83, of Cookeville, will be held on Thursday July 27, 2023 at 11:00A.M., at Crestlawn Cemetery. Bro. Ronald Strong will officiate at the service. The burial will follow at the Cemetery. Anna Pearl Flatt was born in Jackson County on April 12, 1940 to the late, Roy and Artelia Bandy Flatt. She passed away on July 24, 2023 at her home in Putnam County. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by, husband, Eldon J. Flatt and son Randy Flatt. Her family includes, one daughter, Tina Larrick and her husband Robert.

Funeral Service for Jacky Wayne Taylor, 56 of Walling, will be held on Thursday, July 27, 2023 at 1:00 PM at the Chapel of Thurman Funeral Home. Burial will be at Young Cemetery following the service. Jacky passed away on July 25, 2023 at his home in Walling. Jacky was born on July 5, 1967 in Perry County, Tennessee. He is preceded in death by his father, Donnie Taylor; brother, Jeff Taylor; sister, Becky Taylor; and nephew, Dustin Cunningham. He is survived by his daughter, Amanda Taylor and her fiancé, Justin Key; son, JJ (Cassie) Taylor; mother, Marie Taylor; sister, Melissa Taylor; significant other of thirty plus years, LeeAnn Banker; grandchildren, Kyson Taylor and Henslee Taylor. There will be a visitation at the Chapel of Thurman Funeral Home on Thursday, July 27, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM.

The family of Linda Lou Leath, 86, of Sparta, will receive friends Thursday July 27 from 5 – 7 p.m. at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home. She passed away in her home on July 24, 2023. She was born August 6, 1936 to Willard and Dorothy Milner, in South Bend, IN. Linda is survived by her loving and devoted husband Billy; daughters Debbi Nelson, Coleen (Jim) Whiteaker, Anna Cortier (Ron Slagle), Charlotte Smith, Jacqueline (Dave) Sheedy, Janine (Scott) Mabry and sons; Jeff (Joy) Leath, and Jean (Molly) Cortier. Linda was blessed with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, numbering close to 100. They brought love and light to her life. Her eyes would dance with joy when she saw them. Further services and interment will be in South Bend, Indiana.

A funeral service for Roy Thomas “Bud” Cobble, 80 of Cookeville, will be at 12:00 PM on Friday, July 28, 2023 at Presley Funeral Home. Interment will be in Bear Creek Cemetery, Cookeville. He went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 25, 2023. Born Sunday, August 16, 1942 in Cookeville, he was the son of the late JB Cobble and the late Maggie Bowman Cobble. He was one of 10 children. Bud was the husband of Gleema “Sue” Cobble for 59 beautiful and loving years, and they raised two children together. Bud was an in-line welder at Fleetguard/Cummins for 32 years, and he was a farmer all his life. Bud was proud to provide for his family, never afraid to work hard to care for the ones he loved. He was a simple man that enjoyed life’s simple pleasures, and he enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and front-porch sittin’, Bud loved to mow his lawn and had a strict schedule of mowing every three days. Bud never knew a stranger and would give the shirt off his back to those in need. Bud and Sue were members of the Rickman First Baptist for 26 years. Bud is survived by: wife, Sue Cobble; daughter, Lorie (Kenny) Barefield; son, Nathan (Kelly) Cobble; 5 grandchildren, Jared Layne, Sarah Barefield, Joshua Barefield, Matthew Cobble, and Allie Cobble; 2 great-grandchildren, Garrett Layne and Paisleigh Ward; 3 step-grandchildren; brother, Jack Cobble; sisters, Juanita Fletcher, Judy Hotsinpiller, and Jenny Breeding; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday, July 27, 2023, at Presley Funeral Home, and again on Friday, July 28, 2023 from 10:00 AM until time of service.

Funeral service for Anthony “Andy” Paul Reeves, 57 of Sparta, will be held on Friday, July 28, 2023 beginning at 12:00 PM at the Chapel of Thurman Funeral Home. Burial will be at Carter Cemetery. Bro. Barry Whiteaker will be officiating. He passed away on July 22, 2023. Andy was born on October 4, 1965 in White County. He is preceded in death by his mother, Madelyn Bussell Reeves and niece, Felicia Cline. He is survived by his father, Paul (Betty Brady) Reeves; brothers, Randy (Pam) Reeves and Chris Reeves; sisters, Alaurice Reeves-Schultz and Kendra (Jeff) Hansen; nephews, Cody Adcock, Austin (Kaitlyn) Adcock, Tyler Schultz, and Donavan Scheurich; nieces, Cheyenne Schultz, Rachael Kapchus, and Sydney Cowen There will be a visitation at the Chapel of Thurman Funeral Home on Friday, July 28, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM.

Funeral services for Billy Bilyeu, age 76, of Cookeville, will be conducted on Saturday, July 29, 2023, at 1:00 PM from the Chapel of Goff Funeral Home. Rev. Scott Parkinson will officiate with interment to follow in the Shady Grove Cemetery with Full Military Honors provided by the Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends at Goff Funeral Home on Friday, July 28, 2023, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM.

A memorial service for Mrs. Susan Lin Schmitt, age 71 of Cookeville, will be held Saturday, July 29th at 4:00pm at Boma First Church of God in Baxter. Rev. Tim Sharp will officiate. Mrs. Schmitt died Friday June 30, 2023 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She was born December 21, 1951 in McKeesport, PA to the late J. Howard and Sue (Lloyd) McKee. Susan worked in supermarkets throughout her life, most recently at Kroger in Cookeville where she worked for 12 years until her retirement. She was a member of Boma First Church of God near Baxter and a member of Eastern Star Cookeville Chapter #152. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Frank Schmitt; sons, James (Kathy) Schmitt of Gary, Indiana, Sean (Melanie) Schmitt of Bourbonnais, Illinois and Scott Schmitt, of Cookeville; grandchildren, Matthew, Brendan and Andrew Schmitt; and by brothers, Richard McKee and Jeffrey (Collette) McKee. Her family will receive friends Saturday from 1:00pm until service time at the church.

Funeral services for Eulalia Matias, age 68 of Monterey, will be from 5 – 8 p.m. Saturday July 29 at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home. Interment will be at a later date in Guatemala. She passed away Sunday July 23 at her home.
