Joan Edith Allison, 77 of Cookeville, passed away peacefully at Alive Hospice in Murfreesboro, on Thursday morning, January 18, 2024. She was born September 23, 1946 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Fredrick John and Lillian Edna Reidl Spitler. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Robert ” Bob” Allison, II on April 7, 2012 and a brother David Spitler. Joan and husband Bob owned and operated Expressions Photography in Cookeville for many years, helping preserve family portraits and happy events for years to come. She attended Life Church of Cookeville. Joan enjoyed fishing until her health declined. She enjoyed the outdoors and spending time with family and friends. Survivors include daughters, Cindy (Will) Boles of Cookeville, Kim (Bill) Miller of Smyrna and Amy (Brian) McGuire of Murfreesboro; grandchildren: Makenna Miller, Wes (Graceann) Boles, Rylee McGuire; a sister, Susan (Robert) Arata of Cookeville. A private family memorial graveside service will be held at a later date at Cookeville City Cemetery, next to her beloved Bob. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions be made to Cookeville-Putnam County Animal Shelter, 2650 Gainesboro Grade, Cookeville, TN 38501

Mrs. Mary Cathi Cooper, age 74, of Smyrna and formerly of Overton County, passed from this life on Tuesday, afternoon, January 16, 2024, from the Tri Star Stone Crest Medical Center in Rutherford County. She was born in Cookeville, on November 21, 1949, to the late Robert and Edith Ann Garrett Kirby. Funeral arrangments are incomplete.

Funeral Services for Mary Elizabeth Haney, age 79 of Gainesboro, will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, January 19, 2024, at Anderson Upper Cumberland Funeral Home located in Gainesboro, with Lakelan Barham, Kenny Westmoreland, and Mike Fox officiating. Burial will follow in Byers Cemetery also located in Gainesboro. She passed away on Sunday, January 14, 2024, at her home with her family by her side. She was born December 25, 1944 in Gainesboro, and she was the daughter of the late Fred Garrison Pippin and the late Mary Frances Putty Pippin. Mary worked as a custodian at Jackson County Middle School for 19 years. She loved being outside, playing volleyball, dancing, country music; George Jones was her favorite, but most of all, Mary loved her family and spending time with them. Her smile and laughter was contagious. All who knew her, loved her. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, J.B. Haney; siblings, William Millard Pippin, Claron Eugene Pippin, Freddy Lee Pippin, Betty Jean Dyer, Manie Pearl Phillips, Minnie Lou Lewis, Mildred Lee Barnes, Avert Lewis, and James Harlan Pippin; and nephew, Tommy Wayne Stacy. Survivors include: Daughter- Wanda McDowell (Jamie) of Gainesboro; Nephew- Arthur Lee Stacy (Janice) of Ashland City, TN; Many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends also survive. The family will welcome friends for visitation on Thursday, January 18, 2024, from 3:00 PM – 8:00 PM at Anderson Upper Cumberland Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Ben Tillman Prichard, 77 of Cookeville, will be held Friday, January 19, 2024 at 1:00 pm in the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Cookeville City Cemetery. A lifelong resident of Cookeville, he passed away peacefully on January 16, 2024. Born on October 7, 1946, to parents Thomas Kenneth Prichard and Clara Ellis Boatman Prichard, Ben was a man of quiet strength and gentle spirit who made a lasting impression on all who knew him. After graduating from Algood High School in 1964, Ben proudly served his country as a member of the US Army National Guard. He then dedicated 30 years of his life to public service as a Trooper with the Tennessee Highway Patrol, retiring in 2003 with the rank of Sergeant. His unwavering commitment to upholding the law and ensuring the safety of others was a testament to his strong character and sense of duty. Ben was the beloved husband of Donna Faye Mason Prichard, with whom he shared nearly 45 years of marriage filled with love, partnership, and mutual respect. Together, they raised their son, Curtis Mason Prichard, who, along with his wife Abby and their daughter Evelyn Mae Prichard of Shaker Heights, Ohio, brought immense joy to Ben’s life. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Clara; his brothers, Leo “Gordon” Prichard and Granville “Fowler” Prichard; his sister, Roxie Wayne Gribbins; and his brother-in-law, Harold Gentry. He is also survived by his brother, Lester Kenneth Prichard and wife Janell of Cookeville; his sister, Roberta Ann Prichard; and many nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss his gentle presence. His family will receive friends Friday from 11am until service time at the funeral home.

A celebration of life for Willene Martin, 98 of Baxter, will be Friday, January 19 at 2 PM at the Baxter Chapel of Hooper Huddleston Horner Funeral Home with Bro. John Pippin officiating. She died peacefully, Friday morning January 12, 2024 at Clarendale At Bellevue Place in Nashville. She was born April 1, 1925 in Silver Point, to the late Arby C. and Hattie Niece Butts Martin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband Richard Harry Martin on August 20, 2001, son Richard “Ricky” Harry Martin, Jr., daughter Mary Bobo, grandson Michael Martin, sister Ruby Holst. She was a graduate of Baxter Seminary. Her faith was very important to her, she was a member of Baxter Church of Christ. She enjoyed knitting and little dogs. Willene retired as a bookkeeper with Winell Lee Lumber Company in Boma/Cookeville. Survivors include daughter and son-in-law Lorie and Mackie Shanks of Pegram, TN, son and daughter-in-law Anthony “Andy” and Lisa Martin of Baxter, sister Nelda Stanton of McMinnville, grandchildren: Lacey Bobo, Reed Bobo, Allyson (Chad) Sullivan, Tyler Shanks, great-granddaughter Sophie Mack Sullivan. The family will receive friends From 12 Noon Friday until service time at the funeral home.

A Celebration of Life service for James (Jim) Kyle McElroy, 34 of Silver Point, will be held at The Edge Building of Life Church in Cookeville, on Friday, January 19th at 7:00pm. An additional Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 27th from 12:00-4:00pm at Sleep Inn & Suites Conference Center (29 Pines), 5872 33rd Avenue, Eau Claire, WI. He died at his residence, surrounded by loved ones, on Saturday, January 6th, 2023 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on February 4th, 1989, in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. He started his career in the Twin Cities before relocating for his career and finalizing his home in Silver Point. Jim graduated from Chippewa Falls High School with the class of 2007. He had a strong passion and love for heavy equipment, spending his career in numerous facets of the construction industry. He achieved his utmost goal of establishing McElroy Land Management, LLC., his beloved land clearing company. Jim was able to make endless relationships throughout his work, finding a way to connect with anyone that came into his path. Jim was a hardworking and dedicated man placing his heart into everything he did, learning it to its fullest. He was meticulous with his work, emphasizing and ensuring that every detail be perfected from cleaning machinery to mechanical needs, to final aspects of a project. When Jim was not working, he enjoyed hunting, going on adventures, and traveling with his family, and riding the high terrain trails of Tennessee. He had a strong love for his family, prioritizing his wife and children’s needs before his own, utilizing them as a motivator to each and every personal accomplishment. Jim is survived by his loving family, including his wife and high school sweetheart, Kayla (Schneider) McElroy; children, Payten and Coy McElroy; his mother, Mary McElroy; his sister, Cary (Brian) Proud; his nephew’s, Logan Goettl and Wyatt Proud; his father and mother in law, Brian and Linda Schneider; his brothers-in-law, Chad (Mandi) Schneider, Cory (Kim) Schneider; his sister-in-law, Carrie (Charlie) Dahl; and numerous uncles, aunts, cousins, and other extended family. He was preceded in death by his father, Jimmy McElroy; his great-grandmother, Dorothy McNamara; his friend, Alan Prueher; maternal and paternal grandparents: Maxine Kowieski, William McElroy, Dorothy Miller, Arthur Hamman, Ronald Miller; and numerous other aunts, uncles, and cousins. Visitation will be held at The Edge Building of Life Church in Cookeville, on Friday, January 19th from 5:00pm to 7:00pm

Funeral services for Mrs. Dillie Mae McBride, age 80 of Quebeck, will be conducted 11:00am Saturday, January 20, 2024 from the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home with burial in Greenwood Cemetery. She passed away at 5:15pm Sunday, January 14, 2024 at St. Thomas West Hospital in Nashville. Mrs. McBride was born April 16, 1943 in Milledgeville, Georgia to the late Laphie William and Jennie Mae Sparkman Carter. She was a homemaker. She enjoyed being outside working in her flower beds, cake decorating, listening to Elvis and watching her wrestling. Most of all, her greatest joy was being a grandmother to her granddaughter. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband James Walter McBride; four brothers William Carter, Thomas Carter, Edward Carter and Richard Carter. Survivors include her two daughters Paula Denice McBride and Ken of Sparta, Monica Rana McBride of Quebeck; Granddaughter: Whitney LaShay Slatten and husband Nick; Great-granddaughter: Willa Grace Slatten; Special family member: Jay Robinson; Several nieces and nephews also survive. The family will receive friends Friday from 4-7:00pm at Hunter Funeral Home.

A service celebrating the life of Marine Bumbalough, age 83, of Cookeville, will be held at 3pm on Saturday, January 20, 2024, in the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home in Sparta. She passed away on November 4, 2023, in Apopka, Florida. She was born on February 14, 1940. Marine was a brilliant homemaker, devoted wife of 59 years to Terry Bumbalough, loving mother of two children, grandmother (Emma) to five grandchildren and blessed by many great friendships. Marine was an artist, known for her talent in painting. She started her artistic journey when her husband went to Vietnam, and she began creating beautiful paintings. Over time, her passion evolved into craft books, and collectible dolls that were cherished by collectors across America. She created art pieces under the label ‘Sweet Expressions’, referencing lyrics from the hymn ‘Sweet, Sweet Spirit’ by Doris Mae Akers, and for the doll’s unique hand painted faces that highlight the individual qualities of all God’s people. Marine is survived by her loving husband, Terry Bumbalough, her sister Hellan (Teen) Shown, her son Randy Bumbalough, and five grandsons: Whitten, Alex and Rhye Bumbalough, and Parker and Chase Robinson. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Marci Robinson, her parents, Orley and Dorothy Maynard, and her sisters, Barbara Thomas, and Mable Willoughby. A visitation will be held from 1pm to 3pm on Saturday, January 20, 2024, in the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in memory of Marine Bumbalough.

Funeral services for Mr. Jeffrey Don Howard, affectionately known as Donnie, age 65 of Sparta, will be conducted 1:00pm Sunday, January 21, 2024 from the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home with burial in Saylors Cemetery. He passed away 10:55am on Tuesday, January 16, 2024 at Alive Hospice of Murfreesboro. Donnie was born May 28, 1958 in Sparta, to the late Woodrow Wilson and Elizabeth Louine Tindell Howard. He was an over the road truck driver for over 40 years. His career as a truck driver took him from coast to coast many times over. In his younger years, he enjoyed fishing with his sons. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by a brother Benny Howard; a niece and two nephews. Survivors include his wife Sherry Howard of Sparta; Two sons and their spouses: Morgan and Shayna Howard of Atlanta, GA, Jesse and Kara Howard of Soddy Daisy; Grandchildren: Jack, Eliza and Lane Howard; Siblings and their spouses: Woody and Linda Howard of Sparta, Linda and James Smith of Cookeville, Judy and Clayburn Dunn, Sady and Jana Howard, Wildred and David Vidrine, Terry and Buffy Howard all of Sparta. Several nieces and nephews also survive. The family will receive friends after 11:00am Sunday at Hunter Funeral Home. James Collier will officiate.

Funeral service for Jo Helen (Denton) Keith, 87 of Gainesboro, will be held on Sunday, January 21, 2024, at 2 pm in the chapel of Anderson Upper Cumberland Funeral Home in Gainesboro. Burial will follow at the John L. Clark Memorial Cemetery in Jackson County. Bro. Mike Fox will be officiating. She was born September 27, 1936 in Gainesboro=. She passed peacefully from this life on Sunday morning, January 14, 2024. She was the daughter of the Mascus and Vera Denton. She married the late Donald Hall Keith on January 30, 1954. They lived together for over thirty years on Barberton, Ohio, working until retirement when they returned to Jackson County. She was a faithful member at Gainesboro Church of Christ, and attended the ladies bible class. She enjoyed bowling in Ohio, but not after moving back to Tennessee. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Donald, and brothers- in-law and sister-in-laws. Survivors include: Jeff & Kathy Keith, Vickie & Mike Fox, Jason & Tory Lawrence; Amy & Jarid Brooks, and former son-in-law Ralph Lawrence. Many other friends and relatives also survive. Visitation will be held from 3 pm to 6 pm on Saturday, January 20, 2024, and from noon until time of service at 2 pm on Sunday, January 21, 2024. Funeral Services for William Wayne Mullican, age 73 of Sparta, will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, January 21, 2024, at Pistole Baptist Church with Devin Henry and Clint Walker officiating. Burial will follow in Saylors Cemetery. He passed away from his earthly home surrounded by his family on a snowy Monday, January 15, 2024 at his residence. Wayne is the son of the late William Austin and Doris Dimple Hutson Mullican. Wayne met the love of his life in high school, Janet Henry Mullican; the two celebrated 53 years of marriage in June. He was a member of White County High School Class of 1969. Wayne loved to sing gospel music and was a song leader in several local churches throughout his life. He also participated in the weekly singing on Monday at Life Care before Covid. Wayne was a member of Pistole Baptist Church. Anyone who knew him knew he had a strong faith in God and would share his love for God with you. He worked at Mallory Timers for over 25 years and started Mullican Machine & Tool Company in 1984. Wayne was involved in the North End Volunteer Fire Department in the 1980’s-90’s. He was a current member of the White County 911 Board. Wayne’s greatest joys came from serving his Lord Jesus Christ and spending time with his wife, Janet, and their three children (spouses), and eight grandchildren. He enjoyed fellowshiping with his friends and church family. Wayne is preceded in death by his parents, his grandparents: William Clyde and Odessa Jones Mullican, Winnie Grider Hutson, and Lemon Hutson. His in-laws L.D. and Bertie Henry. Wayne is survived by his wife Janet, and their children: Tracy Mullican Prater (Darrin) of Sparta, Terry Mullican (Leslie) of Cookeville, and Tim Mullican (Michelle) of Sparta. His grandchildren: Chase Mullican, Denton Prater, John Prater, Allison “Alli” Mullican, Leah Mullican, Sarah Mullican, Callie Prater, and Molly Mullican. His sisters: Sharon Mullican Buckner (Gary), Regina Mullican Wilhite, and Annette Mullican England (Manuel). Brother-in-laws: Buddy Henry (Joyce), Ricky Henry (Judy). Sister-in-law: Paulette Henry Dycus (Charles) as well as a host of nieces and nephews. Wayne is survived by a huge circle of loving friends and family (too many to mention). The family will welcome friends on Sunday from 10:00 AM until time of the service at the church. A Funeral Service for Terry Winebarger, 61 of Cookeville, will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, January 22, 2024 at Presley Funeral Home. She went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, while being surrounded by her family. Born Saturday, October 20, 1962 in Monterey, TN to the late Lucille Bohannon Barlett. She was the loving wife of the late Daniel (Danny) Paul Winebarger for 38 blessed years. Terry was a lifelong member of the Sand Springs Baptist Church. She will forever be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and love for everyone, especially her sons and grandchildren. She was loving, caring, sweet, and always making time for others, whatever the need was. She was not able to say “no” to anyone. Terry constantly wanted to make others happy. She is survived by sons Alex and Lanae Winebarger of Sparta, Adam Winebarger and fiancé, Keri Litchford of Cookeville; 3 grandchildren Lincoln and Emilia Winebarger, and Oli Richardson; sisters Theresa and Tony Phipps, Tina Phillips; And a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Terry was preceded in death by her husband Daniel, brother David Barlett and mother Lucille Barlett. The family will receive friends from 11;00 AM until time of service at 1:00 PM. Funeral Service for David Ormonde Thomas, 94 of Sparta, will be held Thursday, January 25, 2024, at 12:00 pm from the chapel of Crest Lawn Funeral Home with Dr. Kevin Conrad officiating. Interment will follow in the Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery. He passed from this life on Friday, January 12, 2024, at Life Care Center of Sparta in Sparta. Dave was born Sunday, March 24, 1929, in Pensacola, Florida, he was the son of the late John Douglas and Sybil Rowena (Addenbrooke) Thomas. Dave graduated from Southwestern at Memphis which is now Rhodes College. He started with General Outdoor Advertising in 1951, he later became the Sales Manager at WHBQ in Memphis, he oversaw the start and was the general manager of a new easy listening format WEZI FM, moved to Nashville to be the general manager of WZEZ FM, moved to Cookeville to be the general manager of WGSQ FM which is the Country Giant, and then became a regional manager of Clear Channel Broadcasting and retired in 2004. He was the past President of the Tennessee Association of Broadcasters in 1980, earned Broadcaster of the Year in 1988 from the Tennessee Association of Broadcasters, and was a past president of the Cookeville Chamber of Commerce in 1999 – 2000. He married Mary Elizabeth Hickman on June 3, 1955. He played in the Senior Tour Pro-Am in 1980 in Charlotte, North Carolina, and played at Augusta National Golf Course in 1993 after the Masters was played the day before. He enjoyed raising money for the United Way and Alzheimer’s Research through the memory walk. Dave is survived by, Daughter, Rebecca Vanelli and her husband, Robert; Son, David Thomas, Jr and his wife, Irena; Grandson, Joshua Vanelli and his wife, Haley; 3 Great-Grandchildren; A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends. In addition to his parents, Dave was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Mary Elizabeth (Hickman) Thomas; 2 Brothers, Peter and John Thomas; and 2 Sisters-In-Law, Helen and Stella Thomas. Visitation with the family will be held Thursday, January 25, 2024, from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm at Crest Lawn Funeral Home. A Memorial Visitation for Ronald Dale Stewart, 55 of Gainesboro, to be held on Saturday, January 27, 2024, from 12 P.M. until 2 P.M. at the chapel of Anderson Upper Cumberland Funeral Home in Gainesboro. The family has chosen cremation at this time. He was born November 25, 1968, in Trenton, New Jersey, and he passed away on Sunday, January 14, 2024, at his residence. He was the son of Steven Stewart and Frances Ellen Burton Worthington. He was a welder by trade. Survivors include his son: Stephen (Kaitlyn) Stewart of Gainesboro; daughter: Kendall Stewart of Northeast, Maryland; sister: Kim Head of Gainesboro; grandchildren: Gunner Stewart, Barrett Stewart, and Rowan Reeves. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Jonny Stewart, of Trenton, New Jersey.
