Obituaries For Monday, June 26

Gretchen Anne Golden, age 62 of Sparta, passed away Sunday, June 25, 2023, at her residence. She was born Saturday, April 8, 1961 in Dallas, Texas to the late John Kauffman and the late Margaret May Kauffman. In addition to her parents, Gretchen was preceded in death by her son- Steven Butera. Surviving family members include Sons- Austin Butera of Sparta, and Joseph Butera of New York; Sister- Erica Kauffman; Cousin- Greg Kauffman of Texas. Gretchen loved animals. She especially loved all of her pets. She loved reading books and knitting. Gretchen was a member of Liberty Baptist Church. The family has chosen cremation, a memorial service will be held at a later date.

Michael L. Alred, 55 of Cookeville, passed away, Saturday, June 24, 2023 at his home. He was born October 26, 1967 in Cookeville to Carl and Aileen Randolph Alred of Cookeville. He was preceded in death by a brother, Steve Alred. Michael was a Navy veteran. He was a NASCAR fan and enjoyed football. Survivors in addition to his parents, include daughter, Cydney Alred; son, Aaren Alred both of Cookeville, grandchildren: Ansley Alred, Bella Kolath and Ariyah Alred. A memorial graveside service will be held at a later date.

Phyllis May Frese, age 69 of Baxter, passed from this life Saturday, June 24, 2023, at her home in Baxter. Born Monday, September 14, 1953 in Roseburg, Oregon, she was the daughter of the late Phillip and Shirley (Ireland) Flynn. Phyllis was a loving Wife and Sister. She was a Veteran and served during the Vietnam Era. She is survived by her loving Husband, Norman Allen Frese. Phyllis has chosen cremation and a Celebration Of Life Service will be held at a later date.

Linda Goddard, age 72, of the Muddy Pond Community of Monterey, and formerly of Florida and Michigan, passed away on Saturday, June 24, 2023, at her home. Mrs. Goddard was born on Tuesday, March 27, 1951, in Detroit, Michigan, to the late John and Verna Gurney. Mrs. Goddard was a Pulmonologist Technician. She was a member of Clarkrange United Methodist Church. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Carson Goddard; granddaughter, Alicia Webber of Royal Oak, MI; daughter-in-law, Tracy Webber of Royal Oak, MI; brothers and sister, John Gurney, Susan Gurney, Mark Gurney and Stuart Gurney. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, David Michael Webber. Her wishes of cremation are being honored with Celebration of Life Services to be announced at a later date.

Jennifer Irene Hamilton, age 70 of Cookeville, passed from this life Saturday, June 24, 2023, at Standing Stone Care & Rehabilitation Center in Monterey. Born Monday, August 4, 1952 in Aberdeen, Washington, she was the daughter of the late Eugene and Vernice (Burham) Carson. Jennifer has chosen cremation and no services are scheduled at this time.

Funeral services for Vera Jean Watts, 91 of Baxter, will be Tuesday, June 27 at 12 Noon at the Baxter Chapel of Hooper Huddleston Horner Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Crest Lawn Cemetery. Bro. John Pippin will officiate. Jean passed away Sunday, June 25, 2023 at NHC Healthcare in Cookeville. She was born August 18, 1931 in Putnam County to the late Robert Denton and Jeannie Mae Gentry Presley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bennie H. Watts on November 3, 1986, brothers Charles, Ray and Willard “Hootie” Presley. She was a member of Baxter Church of Christ. Jean liked to travel, was a great cook and enjoyed her morning coffee. She loved spending time with family and friends, especially the grandkids. Survivors include daughters Sharon (Steve) Randall, Nanette Carr all of Baxter, sons Steve (Kathy) Watts of Baxter, Mitchell Watts of Gallatin, 7 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. The family will receive friends Tuesday after 10 AM until service time at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or the charity of your choice.

Funeral Services for Ms. Emma Nell Navarro, age 68, of Livingston, will be conducted 2 p.m., Wednesday, June 28, 2023, from the chapel of Livingston Funeral Home. Burial to follow in the Overton County Memorial. Emma passed from this life on Saturday, June 24, 2023, from the comforts of her home. She was born in Livingston, Tennessee to the late Thurman and Olene Breeding Edmonds. She loved going to yard sales and spending time with friends and relatives. She loved her family dearly. Emma leaves behind her son, Donnie wright of Livingston; step-son Danny Smith of Livingston; granddaughter Britany and husband Michael Wayman of Cookeville and Emily and husband Steven Conley of Sparta; nine great-grandchildren; four great-nieces and three great-nephews; brothers, Glen Edmonds of Livingston and Jeff Roberts of Algood; and sisters, Wanda (Edmonds) and Jason Rich of Watertown and Gail Young of Byrdstown. In addition to her parents, Emma was preceded in death by her daughter, Vickie (Wright) Cox, brother Thurman Edmonds, Jr., sister Brenda Sue (Porter) Edmonds, and special friend Jeff Daws. The family will welcome friends at Livingston Funeral Home on Wednesday from 12 noon until time of services.

A memorial service for Carl Ellis Moore Jr., 74 of Cookeville, will be at 11 a.m. Friday June 30 at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home. He passed away on the afternoon of June 1, 2023. Carl was born October 10, 1948, in Miami, FL to the late Carl and Lorene Moore. He spent his early years in Miami and Jacksonville, FL before moving to Atlanta to attend Emory University. Carl began a career with Southwestern Bell and eventually lived in Texas until his retirement. He then moved to Tennessee to be closer to family. Carl was a very kind, gracious, and gentle man. He was a mentor and friend to many and was always available to help family and friends, to lend a wise word and a listening ear. His daily texts and check in’s will be missed by so many. He was artistic-a talented painter and writer, an avid reader, and he loved fast cars. Carl was married to Thelma May (Helie) Moore who preceded him in death. In addition to Thelma, Carl was preceded in death by his step-daughter Suzanne Wright (David). Carl is survived by his sisters Dianne Garner (Robert), Jeanne Warner; step-son Joseph Kerr; grandson Brady Kerr; nephews Richard Garner (Katie), Ron Garner (Megan); nieces Stacy Baxter (Blake), Heather McRaney, and many dear friends who he considered family. His family will welcome friends Friday from 10 a.m. until service.
