Obituaries For Monday, August 21

Ila Mae Anderson, 92 of Cookeville, died Monday morning August 21, 2023 at Heritage Pointe Senior Living in Cookeville. Arrangements are pending.

Rose Leigh Vines, 78 of Cookeville died Monday morning August 21, 2023 in Alive Hospice of Nashville. Arrangements are pending.

Jerry Wayne Young, age 73 of Sparta, passed away Monday morning August 21, 2023 at Signature Healthcare of Putnam County. Arrangements are incomplete.

Services for Ella Mae Hollett Bullock Haynes, 86 of Cookeville, will be held at 1:00pm on Tuesday, August 22, 2023 from the chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home in Cookeville. Entombment will follow at Crest Lawn Cemetery. He passed from this life on August 18, 2023. The daughter of a fisherman and a seamstress, she was the oldest of five siblings, and was born at home in Lewin’s Cove, Newfoundland on December 29, 1936. Ella is survived by her husband of fifty-eight years, retired Tennessee National Guard Major Donald E. Haynes; three children, Barbara Bullock Greeson (Jim); Marvin Bullock; and Eddy Haynes (Diane); one grandson, Stephen Lee (Cynthia) one step-granddaughter, Claire Wyche (Jon); and three great-grandchildren; Caroline Lee, Andrew Lee, and Emma Wyche. She is predeceased by her mother and father, George and Helena Hollett of Newfoundland. Visitation will be held from 10:00 until the time of the service at 1:00. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation at parkinson.org; to First Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 565 E. Tenth St., Cookeville, TN 38501; or to a charity of your choice.

Funeral service for Mildred Faye Davis, 80 of Sparta, will be held on Wednesday, August 23, 2023 in the Chapel of Thurman Funeral Home at 1:00 PM. Burial will be at Old Bon Air Cemetery. She passed away on August 20, 2023 at her home in Sparta. Mildred was born on September 1, 1942 in the Derossett Community in White County. She is preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Hallie Davis; brothers, Charles, Sammie, Darwin, and Jimmy. She is survived by her brothers, Eddie Cotton Davis and Russian (Freida) Davis, and Carl Davis; daughters, Anna (Darryl) Erney and Amy (David) Pippin; sister-in-laws, Betty Davis and Joyce Davis; grandchildren, Nichole Stewart, Josh Erney, Amanda Henry, Zach Pippin, Matthew Erney, Neikka Starkey, Mykka Erney, and Morgan Pippin; 17 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews; and two special friends; Linda Kaye Owens and Sarah Fuqua Bennett. Mildred lived in White County. She retired from the Buckboard to later go and serve as a Foster Grandparent for BonDeCroft Headstart and BonDeCroft Elementary. She was a member of BonDeCroft Baptist Church. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. There will be a visitation on Tuesday, August 22, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, and on Wednesday, August 23, 2023 in the Chapel of Thurman Funeral Home from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM.

Funeral Services for Ms. Wilma Faye Collins, age 72, of Cookeville, will be conducted 2 p.m., Thursday, August 24, 2023, from the chapel of Livingston Funeral Home. Bro. Danny Allen will officiate. Burial to follow in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery. Ms. Wilma passed away from this life at Cookeville Regional Medical Center on Saturday, August 19, 2023. She was born in Cookeville, on May 23, 1951, to the late Horace Lee and Melena Ford Shaver. Wilma enjoyed taking road trips and listening to music. She loved having her friends and family around. She especially loved have themed game nights to gather the family together. Ms. Wilma is survived by her son Eric Raepsaet of Cookeville; granddaughter Hannah Ocampo and husband Danny of Phoenix, AZ; great-grandson Rey Ocampo of Phoenix, AZ; brothers Kenneth Wayne Shaver of Cookeville, and Ed Shaver and wife Cathy of Cookeville; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Wilma was preceded in death by her sisters Wanda McCoy and Nita Rowell. The family will welcome friends Thursday from 11 a.m. until time of services at the Livingston Funeral Home.

Funeral service for Wanda Joyce Brock Hunter Ware, better known as “Granny J”, age 85 of Sparta, will be held Friday, August 25, 2023 at 11:00 am in the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home with burial in the Old Bon Air Cemetery. She passed away Sunday, August 20, 2023 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. She was born August 22, 1937 in Derossett, TN to the late Harry Eugene Brock and Clara Bell Green Brock. She was also preceded in death by her husbands: Ray Hunter and Ivan Ware, Sister: Peggy Geer, & Brother: Gene Brock. She worked for Manual Officer and Jack Mitchell at the drugstore for many years and then to the old hospital which later became NHC of Sparta. There she worked as a CNA for 24yr and then retired. After retiring she loved to travel, also loved having family game nights, playing poker where she would clean the house. Loved playing her favorite games on the computer and word searches. She loved when family and friends came to visit. She would always ask “What’s your hurry you just got here”, she hated seeing them leave. She is survived by her Daughter: Vickie J Brown, Sparta; Granddaughters: Stephanie J Hickey & Husband Chris, Crossville & Jennifer Case & Husband James, Sparta; Great grandchildren: Rhealan Leonard & Camron, Zach Hickey, Morgan Case, & Isaac Case; Great-Great grandchildren: Tatum McClain & Remingtonn Leonard; Sister: Sandra Gail Majewski Wisconsin; Special Friend: June Goolsby;Honorable mention: Chris Tase; A host of nieces and nephews and cousins. The family will receive friends from 4 pm until 8 pm on Thursday Evening and from 8:00am until service time on Friday.

A celebration of life for Cindy A. Scritsmier, 63 of Gainesboro, will be held on Saturday, September 2, 2023, at Gainesboro Bridge Church at 4 P.M., with Pastor Ken Lewis officiating. The family has chosen cremation. She was born June 11, 1960, in Rochelle, IL, and she passed away on Thursday, August 17, 2023 at her residence in Gainesboro. She was the daughter of Lorraine Cratolo and the late Phil Cratolo. On August 15, 2013, she was married to Fred E. Scritsmier, who survives. She was a homemaker, and a member of the Christian Fellowship Evangelical Free Church in Chicago, Paw Paw Bible Church in Paw Paw, IL, and Gainesboro Bridge Church in Gainesboro. Survivors include her Husband: Fred E. Scritsmier of Gainesboro; Daughters: Nicole Manley of Roselle IL, Regina Dyrda of Houston, TX, Corinne Dyrda of Glendale Heights, IL, and Dava Dyrda of Roselle, IL; Brothers: Al Cratolo, Ron Cratolo, John Cratolo, and Danny Cratolo; Sister: Brenda Cratolo of Lombard, IL; Mother: Lorraine Cratolo of Lombard, IL; Grandchild: Willow Dyrda; and other relatives. Memorial donations may be made to the Gainesboro Bridge Church by contacting the funeral home.
