Jackie Ray O’Connor, 63 of Baxter died Thursday, October 5, 2023 at Smith County Rehab in Carthage. He was born July 23, 1960 in Sparta to the late Jackie Reed and Paulette Davis O’Connor. He was a roofer. Survivors include wife Tammy Brimer O’Connor of McMinnville, daughter Hannah Flatt of Cookeville, son Chris Smith of Sparta, step-sons Roger Manus, Jr. of McMinnville, Jonathan (Ruby) Manus of Pikeville, brothers Jason O’Connor of Baxter, Fred Landry of Michigan, 4 grandchildren, 7 step-grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren. His wishes of cremation are being honored and no services are planned.
James Lacy, 92 of Cookeville died Wednesday evening October 4, 2023 in Bailey Manor. Arrangements are pending.
Shirley W. Watkins, 90 of Allons, passed away on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at Livingston Regional Hospital. Shirley was born Friday, July 7, 1933, in Livingston, and he was the son of the late Shirley Golden Watkins and the late Vera Dean (McAlpin) Watkins. Shirley was a loving son, brother, husband, father, Pa, uncle, and friend. Shirley is survived by his wife of 43 years, Vicki Watkins; 5 Children, Gearl Watkins and his wife, Janet, Sherrill Stewart and her husband, Steve, Jeff Watkins and his wife, Jennifer, Tara Walker and her husband, Josh, and Victoria Dodson and her husband, Dillard; 10 Grandchildren, Nicholas and Nathan Stewart, Jaimie Frazier, Jacquie Hogue, Emma, Morgan, and Gavin Watkins, Abbi and Colby Walker, and Bentlee Phillips; Numerous Great-Grandchildren; A host of neices, nephews, cousins, and special friends. In addition to his parents, Shirley was preceded in death by, his Son, Kori Watkins; 2 Brothers, Garland and Dewey Watkins; and Sister, Gearldine Watkins. Shirley chose cremation, the family followed his wishes, and a celebration of his life will be held at a later date with chocolate milkshakes and banana pudding.

Roger was born Thursday, July 31, 1958, in Nashville, and he was the son of the late Boyd Lige Culwell and Linda Kay (Matthews) Culwell. Roger was a loving son, brother, husband, father, Papa, uncle, and friend. He loved anything cowboy, and he was an evangelist and felt called to reach people for God. She was born May 25, 1942 in Trenton, New Jersey, and she was the daughter of the late Charles Heater and the late Alice Wolverton Heater. She loved crafts, flowers, cooking,her family, and the ladies in her Sunday school class. She was a member of Bear Cove Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Furman and granddaughter, Alicia Rose. Survivors include: Daughters- Christine Furman (William Rockwood) of Sparta; Carolyn Moore of Paulding, OH; and Suzanna Adams (Robin) of Sparta; Grandchildren- Brandon Greiner, Dakota Greiner, Joseph Rose, Jason Moore, Jessica Moore, Chris Adams, and Rebecca Rose; 14 Great-Grandchildren. She was a substitute teacher for the Overton County School System for many years and was a member of the Dodson Branch 1st Baptist Church. Born on March 17, 1949, in Jackson County, Waymon lived a life characterized by love, generosity, and unwavering dedication to his family, work, and faith. Waymon spent 46 fulfilling years working at Cummins Filtration in Cookeville, where he was not just an employee, but a valued member of the community. His colleagues remember him as a hardworking and dedicated individual, always willing to lend a hand. A man of deep faith, Waymon was a dedicated member and deacon at Gentry Chapel Freewill Baptist Church. His unwavering belief and commitment to his faith were an inspiration. He also held the esteemed position of Past Master of the Cookeville Masonic Lodge #266 F&AM, a testament to his leadership and dedication to service. Waymon was known for his big heart and friendly demeanor. He was the kind of person who would give you the shirt off his back without a second thought. His generosity extended beyond his family and friends, touching the lives of countless individuals in the community. He was a beacon of kindness and compassion, always ready with a warm smile and a helping hand. Waymon is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Mildred Ann Bumbalough Dyer, his loving mother, Maggie Elise Medlin Dyer, and his two devoted sons, Thomas Shawn Dyer and Tim (Amanda) Dyer. He also leaves behind his brother, Roger (Cindy) Dyer, and his sister, Roberta (Maurice) Parsons. Waymon’s legacy lives on in his grandchildren, Aaron (Bailey) Dyer, Reuben Dyer, Samuel Dyer, and Ethan Dyer, as well as his great-grandchildren, Jude and Silas Dyer. The family is also joyfully anticipating the arrival of a third great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Leon Dyer, and his brother, James Shurrell Dyer. She was preceded in death by: Johnny Stevens, James Stevens, Mott (Linda) Stevens, JD (Marla) Stephens, Mary Jane (Frank) Clark; a special cousin, Paul (Brenda) Stevens; and a sister-in-law, Carrie (Cluster) Hite. Bobbie was the devoted wife to the late James Harold (Jim) Bowman for 28 years. Bobbie and Jim were childhood sweethearts who lost touch when he joined the army, but eventually found their way back to one another and formed a loving family. Bobbie was a cherished mother to Bayron (Kris) Botkin, Regena Murphy, Mark Bowman, Johnny (Penny) Bowman, Joey (Angie) Bowman, and Candy (Aaron) Degnan. As a grandmother, she was a source of endless joy to numerous grandchildren, each of whom she treasured deeply: Brad, Wesley (Hollie), Gerald, Craig, Taylor (David), Logan, Jada, Austin, Brittney, Michael, Michaela, Jamison, Justin (Rachel), Christopher (Brinton) Cameron (Ansley), Jeremy, Devon, Dalton, and Dawson. Her great grandchildren include: Ella, Elie, Elaina, Kaiden, Dewayne, Maverick, Rohan, Finley, Bryleigh, Bryson, and Bryonna. Bro. Tim McHenry will officiate. Mrs. Herd died Wednesday night, October 4, 2023 at NHC of Cookeville. She was born May 21, 1939 in Putnam County to the late Norman and Ora Herron Palmer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband J. D. Herd on February 16, 2005 and a brother Donald Palmer. She attended Baxter Seminary. Fredia was a member of Baxter Church of Christ. She loved cooking and baking and spending time with family and friends. Survivors include daughter and son-in-law Myrna and Gary Anderson, son and daughter-in-law Mark and Sherry Herd all of Silver Point, grandchildren: Dylon (Brittany) Anderson, Landon Anderson, Nathan Herd and Delton Herd, great-grandchildren: Adley, Enoch and Tegan Anderson, sisters Carolyn (Claude) McHenry, Cathy (Danny) Armistead all of Baxter, Hope (David) Little of Cookeville, brother Michael (Sheila) Palmer of Baxter, host of nieces and nephews. Mr. Mayberry was the son of Newton Fox Mayberry and Naomi Hensley Mayberry. He was a retired State Highway Department Employee and a member of the Center Grove Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his Parents, his wife, Emma Jean Robinson Mayberry who died 2-10-2013. A memorial service to honor Mrs. Rosemary Twilla Jarvis, age 88 of Sparta, and her late husband John D. Jarvis, 88 of Sparta, will be conducted 4:00pm Sunday, October 8, 2023 from the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home. She passed away on September 3, 2023 at Adams Place in Murfreesboro, where she was loved by the staff and other residents. Rosemary was born April 26, 1935 in Smithville to the late Dr. Roy L. and Rosa John Twilla. Rosemary was a graduate of Vanderbilt University. After graduating, she was soon employed by the State of Tennessee as a social worker where she spent her entire career until retirement. Rosemary was active in the Presbyterian Church in Sparta. She enjoyed traveling and spending time at the lake with her late husband John D., who was her constant companion. She will be greatly missed. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband John D. Jarvis, who died April 30, 2020 and her brother Dr. John Kenneth Twilla. Mrs. Phillips was born on Tuesday, April 27, 1948, in Monterey, to the late Vernon Rufus and Mae Deane Norrod Harris. Mrs. Phillips passed away on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at Ascension St. Thomas West in Nashville. Mrs. Phillips was a homemaker. She loved her family, visiting, and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, quilting, and fishing. She loved cooking and baking and had recently baked over 200 pies to share with her church and church family. She was always looking for ways to help others. She was a member of Holladay Church of Christ. Born on December 26, 1936, in Monroe County, KY, Della was a beacon of love and faith to all who knew her. Della was the cherished daughter of the late Ralph and Auda Claiborn Beaty. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Kenneth Hunter, her dear son, Kenneth Lynn Hunter, and her sisters, Ruth Alexander and Nell Horn. Della is survived by her devoted daughter, Marsha Lynette Pegram (Eric), and her adored granddaughter, Monica Kennamer (Andrew). Her family will remember her as a woman of immense love and unwavering faith. She was a sales manager/sales consultant in a rental center. Sherrie was a member of Eastwood Baptist Church. Survivors in addition to her mother, include husband Joe Durham of Cookeville, daughters Brianna Sullivan and Andrianna Anorve both of Cookeville, sons Jonathon Najharo of California and Jacob Anorve of Cookeville, sister Sandra Russell of Pulaski. His grandsons, Ben Pauli and Matt Suggs, will serve as officiants. The pallbearers who will lovingly carry Sam to his final resting place are Steven Oakley, Jamal Henley, Bill Copeland, Jerry Greer, Eddie Locke and Tony Whiteaker. He passed peacefully from this life Thursday, October 5th at his home surrounded by family and friends. He was born on December 20th, 1932 as the middle child of seven, to Boyd and Bonnie (Benson) Qualls. He was a lifelong resident of Algood. On May 21st, 1957, Sam married the love of his life, Earline Ford Qualls, and their bond remained unbreakable for an incredible 66 years. Their marriage is a testament to the enduring power of commitment and partnership. Their life together was marked by love, a commitment to the Lord, and countless shared memories. Sam is survived by his spouse, Earline, their three children: Marsha Pauli, Kim Randolph, and Sammy Qualls, one sister, Linda Whiteaker, grand-children, Elizabeth, Matthew, Benjamin, Lindsey, Rebekah, Noel, Samantha, and Logan, and his 13 great grand-children, All of whom adored their beloved “Pappy.” He was preceded in death by his parents, his two brothers: Elwin and Lynon, his three sisters: Mary Dean, Comella, and Eulene, and his beloved Grandson, Marshall. Along with Sam’s 3 kids, 9 grand-kids, and 13 great grand-kids, he was a friend and father figure to many. Born on June 26, 1935, in Putnam County, Marie was a cherished member of her community and a beloved figure in her family. Marie was the daughter of the late James Arthur Stout and Pietta Worley Stout. She was predeceased in death by her husband of 42 years James Hollis Roberson and two brothers,, Earl and Ray Stout, and an infant sister. She is survived by her two devoted sons, James Perry Roberson (Suzette) and Tim Roberson (Denise). She was a proud grandmother to five grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Her legacy of love, kindness, and optimism will continue to inspire those who knew her and will be passed down through the generations of her family. Marie spent her professional life serving the community as a food service worker at Sycamore Elementary School. Her dedication to her work was evident in the care she took to ensure that every child was well-fed and cared for. Her warm smile and kind words made the cafeteria a welcoming place for all. A woman of faith, Marie was a regular attendee at the Praise Cathedral Church of God. She was known for her unwavering optimism, even in the face of adversity. Marie never complained, choosing instead to focus on the positive aspects of life. Her family will welcome friends Tuesday from 5 – 8 p.m. and again Wednesday from 10 a.m. until service time.

Donald passed away on Saturday, September 30th, 2023 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. His family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
A Celebration of Life for William Charles Sliger of Baxter, will be held on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at 2:00PM at the Faith Fellowship Church in Cookeville. Brother Sterl Paramore will officiate. William Charles Sliger was born in Cookeville on July 29, 1985, to Garry and Cathy (Davis) Sliger. William worked in the construction industry as a pipeline layer. In addition to his parents, he is survived by three children: Brayden Price, William Sliger and Arianna Sliger. Two Sisters & Brother-In-Law: Jennifer Hester & Patrick Cockerell, and Deanna (Sliger) Osluand. His Paternal Grandmother: Betty Bumbalough. Nephews and Niece: Nick and Gabe Hester, Kaden, Kaitlyn, and Zane Pass. He is preceded in death by his Maternal Grandparents: William C. Davis Jr. and Francis Davis, Paternal Grandfather: Charlie Sliger, and Brother-In-Law: Geoff Oslund. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00PM until the time of the Celebration of Life at 2:00.
