Jerry Qualls, Age 75, of Mayland passed away on Friday, March 8, 2024, at his home. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

Daniel Gregory Gibbs, 63 of Jackson County, passed away on Thursday, March 7, 2024, at his residence. He was born July 8, 1960, in Atlanta, GA. He was the son of Homer Dennis Gibbs, Sr and Jeanette Anne Rose Madox Gibbs. Daniel worked in the construction business. He attended New Hope Baptist Church in Gainesboro. Survivors include his daughter: Lydia Gibbs of Gainesboro; brother: Homer (Tammy Lyn) Dennis Gibbs Jr. of Gainesboro. The family has chosen cremation.

A Celebration of Life for Dorothy Lee Elliott, 94 of Sparta, will be held at 11:00 AM at the Christian Life First Assembly of Sparta on Saturday, March 9, 2024. She went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 28, 2024. She was born on Friday, December 27, 1929, in Detroit, Michigan. She was the daughter of the late Chester Batts and the late Ruth Jackson Batts. Surviving family include: Sons- Keith Elliott and Dave Elliott; Daughters – Karen Morgan, Dana Watkins, Laura Elliott, and Raychelle Elliott; Grandchildren – Jim Wallace, Mason Wallace, Stacey Elliott, and Paige Elliot Schisler, Amanda Barns, Shaina Elliott, Bethany Watson, and Shali Dennison along with 29 other grandchildren. Several great grandchildren also survived.

Funeral services for Mrs. Dorothy Brotherton Nichols, age 96 of Cookeville, will be held Saturday, March 9, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. in the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Phillips Cemetery. She died Wednesday March 6, 2024 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Her family will receive friends Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Funeral services for Logan Eric Mullinix, age 60 of Franklin and formerly of Jamestown, will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2024 at 12:00 noon at the Alive in the Spirit Church in Jamestown. Burial will follow in the Allardt Cemetery. He passed away on Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at the St. Thomas West in Nashville. Logan is survived by his: Wife, Gina (Poston) Mullinix, and her children, Tara Bumgarner, Addison Bumgarner, Baylor Bumgarner, Blaine Bumgarner; Son, Hal (Logan Eric Mullinix II) Longview and wife Emily; Grandchildren, Twins Hosanna and Oliver (on the way); Daughter, Abby Mullinix; Sister, Marilyn Roncati and husband Michael; Nephews, Eric Mullinix and Terri, Scott Mullinix and wife Magen, Jordan Mullinix and wife Rebekah; Nieces, Jessica Shearer and husband Joey, Carissa Tysvaer and husband Scott; Furry Friends, Sister and Toby; A Host of Great Nephews, other Family and Friends. He is preceded in death by his: Father, Lester Eugene Mullinix, Mother, Joline (King) Mullinix, Brother, Larry Mullinix. The family will receive friends on Friday, March 8, 2024 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Jennings Funeral Homes Chapel in Jamestown, and again on Saturday from 10:00 am til time of the service at the Alive in the Spirit Church in Jamestown.

Funeral services for Mrs. Delphia Frasher, 93 of Brookdale Senior Living in Englewood Ohio, and formerly of Cookeville, will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2024, at 1:ooPM from the Chapel of Whitson Funeral Home with Josh Hodum officiating. Burial will follow at the West Cemetery (North). She passed away peacefully at Miami Valley Hospital on February 28th. On August 6, 1930, in a little house adjacent to Mill Creek in northern Putnam County Tennessee, Willis and Ona (Roberts) Allen welcomed what would be their only child into the world. A baby girl that they named Delphia Ethelene. Ona’s grandpa suggested her first name and although Ona disliked it, her compassion and fondness for the old civil war soldier won in the end. She honored his request. However, for the remainder of her life, Ona would refer to her girl as “Ethel”. Sometime later the Allen’s moved to Dayton, Ohio where Ethel met Homer Frasher. They married on March 19th, 1949 and a year later welcomed a son, James, or Jimmy. The family moved back to Cookeville after Homer retired from General Motors. She is preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Willis Allen of Cookeville, and her husband of 39 years, Homer Lee Frasher. She is survived by her son, James R (Deborah) Frasher, her grandchildren James L (Dawn) Frasher, Johnathan (Anissa) Frasher, Diana (Eric) Laquerre and step-grandson Todd (Ashlee) Yount. Additionally, she leaves behind her great-grandchildren, who consider themselves fortunate enough to have been present and witnessed on more than one occasion, the flawless delivery of a backhanded compliment from such a master of sass, their grandma Frasher. Travis (Kelsey), Taylor, and David Frasher, Courteney Frasher, Jaden Phy and Logan, Bailey and Owen Laquerre. Also step-great grands Haddie, Holland, Hazel, Henley and Brandie (Will) Hilton. Visitation with the family will be held only on Saturday from 11:00am till the service time at 1:00PM. The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the West Cemetery (North-Bangham Community) cemetery fund.

A Funeral service for Judy H Hyzer, 82 of Cookeville, will be at 1:00 PM on Saturday, March 9, 2024 at Presley Funeral Home with the Bro. Charlie Hutchinson officiating. Interment will be in Double Springs Cemetery, Cookeville. She peacefully went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 3, 2024, while being surrounded by her loved ones. Born Monday, February 9, 1942 in Liberty, New York, she was the daughter of the late Ray Yaun and the late Hazel Yaun. Being raised in the Catskill of northern New York, Judy was a graduate of Liberty High School. There were many family clambakes in the backyard. She helped in the area nursing home, then became a teller at the local bank. She moved to Cookeville 1981, where she’s been for the last 43 years. Judy was a very loving wife, Mom, and Grandma. She loved her children, all of them. She was a very family oriented person, having many gatherings during the holidays and whenever the kids just wanted to get together, they always went home. Judy was the “firecracker” of the family, she was quite verbose. “Your never too old to help”, Judy volunteered at the YMCA’s in the “Learn to Swim” program while she was in her 70’s, and always donated to St. Jude’s Childrens Hospital. She would call the family in New York to keep up to date with them and would always let the Cookeville bunch know what was going on up there, even though they don’t remember them. She loved everyone and everyone loved her. Judy was a Godly Woman and loved the Lord. Her father Ray, and brother, Raymond started Yaun’s Plumbing Company in New York and has now grown to a much larger company. Judy is survived by 2 sons Tracy (Amy Cronk) Hyzer of Cookeville, Todd Hyzer of Cookeville; 5 grandchildren Ashley McKee, Ashton McKee, Brandon Hyzer, Tyler Hyzer, and Mia Hyzer; great-grandchildren Austin Hyzer, Kinlee Kres, Eligh McKee. And a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to her parents, Judy was preceded in death by her daughter, Susie Hyzer McKee. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until time of service at 1:00 PM. Funeral services for Betty Jean (Groce) Martin, age 94 of Byrdstown, will be held Saturday, March 9, 2024 at 1:00 PM from Brown Funeral Chapel with Bro. Rick Cross officiating. The burial will be in Vann’s Branch Cemetery. She passed away Wednesday, March 6, 2024 at her residence. She was born October 30, 1929 in Byrdstown, to Granville Armster ‘G.A.’ Groce and Bertie (Reagan) Groce. She was a member of First Christian Church Byrdstown, a former garment factory employee and homemaker. Betty is survived by (2) daughters: Karen Smith and husband: Lynn, Barbara Smith and husband: Butch; (1) son: Phillip Martin and wife: Shellie; (9) grandchildren: Tony Smith, Chris Smith, Martin Smith, Lori Smith, Matthew Smith, Micah Smith, Kara Ray, Lee Martin and Ashley Martin; (14) great-grandchildren and (7) great-great-grandchildren. Also survived by nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents: G.A. and Bertie Groce; husband: Forest Martin; (1) daughter: Jeanette Martin; (2) sisters: Olene Martin and Edna Booher; (4) brothers: Charles Groce, Carl Groce, Bob Groce and George Groce. The family will receive friends Friday from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Brown Funeral Chapel.

Graveside services and interment for Terry Gail Thompson, 74 of Cookeville, will be Saturday, March 9 at 1 PM at Boiling Springs Cemetery. Mrs. Thompson died Tuesday night, March 5, 2024 at NHC of Cookeville. She was born July 25, 1949 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Willie J. and Ruby Elise Dunn Peek. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Marshall Peek. Terry Gail graduated in 1968 from Putnam County Senior High School. She retired as a beautician with Bessie’s Beauty Shop of Cookeville. Survivors include son, Eddie Thompson of Hermitage; daughter, Rhonda Baxter of Gainesboro; sisters, Mary Elmore, Wanda Elrod and Norma Peek all of Cookeville; brother, Tony (Anita) Peek of Crawford; grandchildren: Stephen (Chelsea) Patterson, II, Cody Baxter, Tanner (Jessica Emerton) Baxter, Brayden Baxter; great-grandchildren, Rayven, Pagan and Tate Patterson, Ava, Waylon, Charlie and Jesse Baxter, several nieces and nephews and her pet cat, Jinx. There will be no visitation at the funeral home, everyone will meet at the cemetery.

Celebration of Life Services, and Military Service by the Overton County Veterans Honor Guard Honoring the Life of Mr. Billy Gene Gaw, age 90, of Livingston will be held at 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 10, 2024, at Bilbrey’s Crossing in Rickman. Mr. Billy Gene Gaw was the only son of the late Owen A. Gaw and Nora Pearl Means Gaw, both of Cookeville. At the early age of 12, Billy drove a lime truck with his late father and late uncle Edward Means, serving the Upper Cumberland area. He continued driving while attending college at Tennessee Technological University. He graduated from TTU on June 1, 1956, with his BS in Education and married his high school sweetheart Letha Jane Sells that very same day. Billy Gene and Jane were married 68 years but had been together since he was 17 years old, and she was 16 years old. Mr. Gaw was a member of the First Christian Church in Livingston, where he served as an elder and a Sunday School teacher for his beloved Disciples Class from 1966 until he was physically unable. Mr. Gaw served as SFG 1 in the Cookeville National Guard, retiring after 33 years of service. Billy leaves behind his loving and devoted wife Mrs. Letha “Jane” Gaw of Livingston; daughters, Robin Gaw Long and husband Russell of Rickman, and Cindy Gaw Prater and husband Sam of Madison, FL; grandchildren, Kiefer Smith, Karley Smith Wilson and husband Jake, Elizabeth Prater, and Rheachel Long. Billy was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services for Janice Marie (Gilbert) Taylor, age 71 of Monroe, will be held Monday, March 11, 2024 at 1:00 PM from Brown Funeral Chapel with Bro. Brett Gibbons and Bro. James Forlines officiating. The burial will be in Taylor Homestead Cemetery. She passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. She was born May 28, 1952 to Joe Reed Gilbert and Virginia Marie (Leonard) Gilbert. She was a member of Chesterfield Freewill Baptist Church in Chesterfield, IN and presently attended Pleasant Ridge Church. She was a former factory employee at General Motors, a homemaker and mother. Janice loved the Lord, her family, football and enjoyed life. Janice is survived by her husband: Thomas ‘Doug’ Taylor; (1) son: T.J. Taylor and wife: Amy; (6) grandchildren: Andrew Cameron and Wife: Ami, Lexi Taylor, Eli Taylor, Emma Cameron, Lincoln Taylor and Lucas Taylor; mother: Virginia Gilbert; (2) sisters: Johanna Brancheau and Sherry Lane; (2) brothers: Cameron Gilbert and Bill Gilbert. Also survived by other family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her father: Joe Reed Gilbert; (1) daughter: Joni Marie Cameron.; Maternal Grandparents:Eustayce and Goldie Leonard. Funeral services for David E White, age 88 of Monterey, will be held Monday, March 11, 2024 beginning at 1:00 pm from the chapel of Crest Lawn Funeral Home, with Mr. Timothy Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery, in Cookeville. He passed from this life Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at his home in Monterey. Born Tuesday, September 17, 1935 in Cookeville, he was the son of the late Charlie and Gertie (Davis) White. David was a loving husband, brother, uncle and friend to all who knew him. He loved his nieces and nephews and spending time with them. David was a member of Monterey Second Freewill Baptist Church, and a Veteran of the United States Army. He enjoyed sports and spending time on the farm. David is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Juanita (Glenn) White of Monterey; 2 sisters: Betty Howard of Cookeville, Faye White of Cookeville; A host of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents David was preceded in death by, 2 sisters, 3 brothers and nephews. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 11:00 am until the time of service at 1:00 pm.

A Graveside service for Earl “Eugene” Maxwell, 72 of Cookeville, will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, March 11, 2024, at Harris Cemetery in Cookeville. He passed on Monday, March 4, 2024, while being surrounded by his family. Born Wednesday, December 19, 1951, he was the son of the late Claude Maxwell and the late Dorothy Nixon Maxwell. Eugene loved music. He was a lead singer, lead guitarist and lead drummer in several bands, including “Destiny”. He also played as a soloist in the local area for years. He enjoyed the outdoors, gardening beautiful flowers and landscaping. He would share his flowers with Eunetta, his first cousin. Eugene and Eunetta spoke to each other daily. Eugene loved his little dog, Oscar, who would follow him everywhere in the house and yard. He loved the Lord his God. He was raised by and lived with his paternal grandparents, Ruth and Solen Maxwell, and loved them dearly. He is survived by a multitude of cousins.

Memorial services for Ms. Elizabeth Jean Anderson, age 77 of Cookeville, will be conducted 6:00pm Friday, March 15, 2024 at Locust Grove Church of Christ. She passed away February 2, 2024 at her residence. Jean was born March 8, 1946 in Cookeville, to the late Garland Virgil and Bonnie Estell Underwood Anderson. She was a retired Pepsi Bottling Company employee. She was a faithful member of a group of friends known as the “Breakfast Club” who met daily to enjoy coffee at McDonald’s. In her younger years, she loved trips to Florida with friends. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by brothers Ronnie Anderson and Robert Anderson. Jean is survived by her three brothers and their siblings Donald and Lucille Anderson of Cookeville, Gary and Kathy Anderson of Lebanon, Ricky and Sharon Anderson of Cookeville; Sister: Kathy Lamb of Monterey; Nieces: Amy and George McCready, Autumn Lamb and Lori Harris; Nephews: David and Melinda Anderson, Brent and Jan Anderson, Jason Harris. The family will receive friends after 4:00pm Friday at the church.

A Memorial service for Theresia Ellen Grogg, 81 of Cookeville, will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 16, 2024, at Presley Funeral Home. She passed away on Friday, February 9, 2024, surrounded by her family. Born Tuesday, March 10, 1942 in Greenville, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Leo Goubeaux and the late Mary Beyke Goubeaux. Theresia was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She raised her 5 children by herself while working and always providing for her children. She never missed one of their practices or ball games. She always nurtured her children, but was terribly scared when they got sick. Theresia loved her family, and enjoyed the gatherings during Christmas, Easter and Thanksgiving. She was an awesome cook, cake decorator, even making several wedding cakes. She enjoyed going to the beach and loved eating at Calabash Seafood Restaurant. She worked at Fentress Industries as a seamstress and at Russell Stover’s Candies. She enjoyed sewing, making most of her children’s clothing. She never knew a stranger. Theresia was a member of the Catholic Church and loved the Lord. Jimmy was her favorite child! Actually, her favorite was who ever was doting on her at that time. Surviving are 3 sons Eric (Betty) Grogg of GA, James “Jimmy” Grogg of Monterey, Mike (Sandra) Grogg of Hendersonville; 1 daughter Rhonda Marie Tinch of Crossville; grandchildren Melissa Miller, Justin Laster, Jameson Laster, Tyler Tinch, Erin Grogg, and Ashlyn Grogg; great-grandchildren Dawson Miller, Melyssa Grogg, Masien Shelton, Lydian Laster, Jaylee Laster, Gavin Laster, and Jacob Laster; Special friends Mary LaPeer and Debbie Klem; siblings Larry (Jeanettia) Goubeaux, Doris (Dennis) Brown, and Cecil (Diane) Goubeaux; And a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Theresia was preceded in death by daughter Robin Laster, siblings Joan Franks, and George Goubeaux. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until time of service at 11:00 AM.

A memorial service for Mr. James Rhea “Jim” Slatten, age 70 of Rock Island, a native of White County, will be conducted 1:00pm on Saturday, March 16, 2024 from the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home. He passed away Saturday morning, February 24, 2024 in the emergency room of St. Thomas River Park Hospital in McMinnville. Jim was born December 23, 1953 in Sparta, to the late William Wade and Mildred Marie Boyd Slatten, Jr. In honor of Jim’s wishes, Hunter Funeral Home has been entrusted with his cremation. The family will receive friends after 11:00am on Saturday, March 16, 2024 at Hunter Funeral Home.

A gathering to celebrate Robert Harshaw, 55 of Cookeville, will be held Saturday, March 16th at 2:30pm at Country Inn & Suites in Cookeville. A gentle man of kindness and selflessness, he passed away on March 3, 2024, in Cookeville. Born on September 8, 1968, in Frankfort, Kentucky, Robert’s journey was one of resilience and compassion, leaving a legacy that will be cherished by all who knew him. Raised by his grandparents in Franklin, KY, Robert attended the local high school. Despite facing a challenging upbringing and battling various disabilities, Robert’s spirit remained unbroken, and his heart, ever expansive. He proudly served for 4.5 years with the Putnam Co. Volunteer Fire Department and the Putnam County Rescue Squad. His commitment to helping others in their times of need was a testament to his character-a man who always placed the well-being of others above his own. Family was the cornerstone of Robert’s world, particularly his cherished grandchildren, who were the light of his life. He is survived by his loving wife, Jennifer Overby; sons, Raymond (Mackenzey) Brock and Michael (Becky) Reichert; and his treasured grandchildren, Evan Brock, Keydon Brock, Emma Reichert, Reigha Brock, and Micah Reichert. Robert also leaves behind a sister, Regina Hogans; cousins, Mike and Leo; an aunt, Ann Harshaw; and his best friend, Mike Hamilton, with Mike’s son Logan, whom Robert held dear as if he were his own son. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Bennie and Betty Harshaw; and by grandparents, Anne Elizabeth Carter Harshaw and Vaughn George Washington Harshaw. His absence will be deeply felt by his family, who found in him an endless source of love and support.

A Memorial Gathering for Mrs. Marcia King, age 65, of Baxter will take place on Sunday, March 17, 2024, between the hours of 1:00-4:00pm at The Maxwell Farm Event Venue (6464 Nash Road, Baxter, TN). Mrs. King, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2024, in Nashville.

Graveside services and interment for Larry Stevon Click, 85 of Cookeville, will be held Friday March 22nd at 10 am at Crest Lawn Cemetery in Cookeville. He passed away on March 4, 2024 in Knoxville. He was born in 1938 in Mt. Jackson Virginia in the beautiful rolling hills of the Shenandoah Valley to the late Marlin Frederick Click and the late Mary Catherine Moomaw Click. He graduated from Triplett High School in Mt. Jackson, Virginia and enrolled at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia in 1957. There he earned a B.S. degree in Agricultural Engineering. He also received a Master’s degree in Agricultural Engineering from Pennsylvania State University in 1964. Starting in October 1964, he served as an assistant professor (and later associate professor) and Extension Agricultural Engineer at Penn State. In March 1971, he joined the Tennessee Tech University faculty as an associate professor of Agricultural Engineering where he served in varying capacities including serving as the department Chairman from 1976 until the fall of 1980 when he stepped down to focus on what he enjoyed most, advising and teaching students. He loved challenging his students to bring out their best. His students often commented that he was tough but fair. He continued teaching full time until May 2004 when he retired. He was honored with numerous teaching awards at the department, university and regional/national levels. In 1986, he received the Delta Tau Alpha National Outstanding Teacher/Advisor Award. In 1981 he was given the NACTA Teacher Fellow and Regional Outstanding Teacher Award, and in 2002, he was honored with the NACTA John Deere Award for the Southern Region. He also received numerous awards from students including the 1983 School of Agriculture Students’ Choice Award and the 1987-88, 1989-90, 1993-94, and 1997-98 School of Agriculture “Student Selected” Outstanding Faculty Award. He truly loved having the opportunity to teach and advise students. He is preceded in death by his wife of 49 years Aliene Bowles Click. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie Click Ard and Derek Ard of Knoxville, his son and daughter-in-law Dr. Steven Click and Cheryl Saylor Click of Cookeville, and his four grandchildren, Brice and Alyssa Ard and Rachel and Zoe Click. His family will receive friends Thursday March 21st from 5 pm to 7 pm at the Cookeville chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. The public is invited.
