Obituaries For Monday, October 29

Mr. Howard Wayne Young, age 66 of Sparta, passed away Sunday night October 28, 2018 at his residence. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

Funeral Services for Mr. Grover Lee “Pinky” Ledford, age 86, of Alpine will be conducted 11 a.m., Tuesday, October 30, 2018 from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home. Bro. John Copeland will officiate. Burial will be in the Ferrell Cemetery, with Military Honors provided at graveside by the Overton County Veterans Honor Guard. He passed away on Saturday, October 27, 2018 from the Signature Health Care in Algood after a long illness. Grover was born on September 22, 1932 to the late Grover Cleveland and Eliza Oma Winningham Ledford in the Ivyton community of Overton County. He leaves behind his family to cherish his memory: daughter, Janet Marie “Janet-re” Ledford of Cookeville; son, Timothy Grover Ledford, Sr. of Crawford; grandchldren, James Ryan Padgett of Nashville, Kyle Lee Padgett of Monroe, Thomas Fitzgerald Ledford of Monroe, Courtney Diane Ledford of Cookeville, Rory Michelle Ledford of Knoxville, Emily Rose Ledford of Crawford, Timothey Grover Ledford, Jr. of Crawford; great-grandchildren, Garrison Padgett of Monroe, Jamison Padgett of Monroe, Gracie Ann Padgett of Houston, TX; a host of nieces and nephews. Grover was a devote Christian, believing Christ was his savior. He will be joining those who have preceded him in death: his parents, Grover and Eliza; uncle, Ezra Ledford; siblings, Molly Dean Ledford, John Thomas “Cheif” Ledford, Clyde Haskell “Hass” Ledford, Dolan B. “Bun” Ledford, Wiley Green “Dick” Ledford and Emogene “Jean-Jean” Ledford Anderson; grandson John Brandon Padgett. The family will welcome friends on Monday evening from 5 until 8 p.m. at Speck Funeral Home.

Celebration of Life Services for Mrs. Georgia Evelyn Beatty Stephens, age 89, of Livingston will be conducted 7 p.m., Tuesday, October 30, 2018 from the First Christian Church in Livingston. Rev. James Shenko will officiate. Burial will be in the Copeland Cemetery. Mrs. Stephens passed from this life on October 26, 2018, from NHC Healthcare in Cookeville. She was born in Overton County on November 29, 1928, to the late George & Dean Copeland Beatty. Mrs. Stephens was a member of the First Christian Church in Livingston. She loved her family, enjoyed flowers, feeding birds, gardening, cooking and reading her cook books. Georgia absolutely loved her grandchildren & great-grandchildren. She leaves her daughter, Patricia Vaughn & husband Ricky, Livingston; son, Charles Stephens & wife Ginger of Hilham; grandson, Jamie Ledford & wife Lori of Old Hickory, Jacob Stephens & wife Jeanetta of Cookeville, and Zachary Stephens of Cookeville; great-grandchildren, Callie Stephens, Connor Flippo, Paxton Davidson, and Marron Davidson; brother, Jimmy Beatty of Livingston; sisters, Wanda Stephens of Livingston, and Ann Ward of Crossville. In addition to her parents, Georgia was preceded in death by her sisters, Collen Norris and Sheryl Beatty. The family will welcome friends on Tuesday evening from 5 p.m. until time of services at the First Christian Church in Livingston. Memorial Donations may be made to the First Christian Church for Food Pantry.

Graveside service for Ms. Mildred Louise McCurry Alexander, age 69 of Sparta, will be held at 3:00 pm on Wednesday, October 31, 2018 at the Big Springs Cemetery. She passed away Sunday evening October 28, 2018 at St. Thomas Highlands Hospital. She was born July 24, 1949 in Sparta to the late Lloyd and Lona Bussell McCurry. She was also preceded in death by her sisters: Phyllis Webb and Darlene McCurry, and brothers: Charles McCurry and Leroy McCurry. She is survived by her: Son: Donnie (Minerva) Alexander of North Dakota; Daughter: Sandra Alexander of Sparta; Grandchildren: Kayla Lack, Alex Alexander, Tyler Judkins, and Raven Alexander; Great-Grandchildren: Mason Judkins, Malachi Judkins, Troy Alexander, Raylin Lack, and Trenton Lack; Sister: Frances Lee; Brothers: Bo McCurry, Ricky (Jessica) McCurry, and Danny (Tammy) McCurry; Special Friend: Ronnie Alexander.

Funeral services for Ms. Ruth Philomena Fledering “Mama Ruth” Payne, age 79 of Sparta, will be conducted 6:00pm Thursday, November 1, 2018 at Sparta First Baptist Church. Burial will be 10am Friday, November 2, 2018 at Highland Cemetery. She passed away Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at her residence. The family will receive friends Thursday from 3:00pm until service time at the church.

Funeral services for Charles E. Stout, age 84 of Crawford, will be held Friday, November 2, 2018 beginning at 1:00 pm from the chapel of Crest Lawn Funeral Home with Bro. Kevin Phillips officiating. Entombment will follow in Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery Mausoleums. Charles passed from this life Saturday, October 27, 2018, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was born Thursday, July 26, 1934 in Putnam County. He was the son of the late Charlie Stout and the late Beulah Thompson Vickers. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, and was a friend to all who knew him. He retired from the U.S. Army after serving during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Mr. Stout is survived by his wife: Juanita Stout of Crawford; 1 Daughter: Glenda Stout of Crawford; 1 Son: Jimmy Stout of Cookeville; 2 Granddaughters: Mary Pamela McCrary of Crawford, Tammy Charlene Schluter of Putnam County; 3 Grandsons: Charles Douglas Harris of Cookeville, Jimmy Charles Stout of Cookeville, Cody Glenn Stout of Cookeville; Numerous great grandchildren. In addition to his parents Mr. Stout was preceded in death by a daughter Linda Stout. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday, November 2, 2018 from 11:00am until time of service at 1:00pm.

Memorial services for Daniel Lee Rose, 59, of Cookeville, will be held on Saturday, November 3, 2018, at 11 A.M. at Anderson – Upper Cumberland Funeral Home in Gainesboro. The family has chosen cremation. He passed away on Wednesday, October 17, 2018, at his residence. He was born June 10, 1959, in Brunswick, Maine, to Sylvia Rose and the late Robert Rose. He was married to Holly Robertson Rose, who survives. He worked in sales at Dunham Sports, and served in the U.S. Army. Survivors include his Wife: Holly Robertson Rose of Cookeville; his Mother: Sylvia Rose of Maine; 1 Brother: Alan Rose and wife, Sandy; 2 Sisters: Linda Rose Deskins and Letha Rose Wesley and husband, Bob; Nieces and Nephews: Keath Deskins, Christie Engleman, Miranda Jacobs, Roxanne Armstrong, Co-Lee Grev, Misty Rose, Andrew Doble, Bob Wesley, Kara Robertson, Liam Robertson and Robert Mangrum; Caregivers: Jason Robertson and Charlie Williamson; and many friends.

Memorial services for Michael DeFosche, 68 of Whitleyville, will be held on Sunday, November 4, 2018, at 2 P.M. in the chapel of Anderson – Upper Cumberland Funeral Home in Gainesboro. Michael died suddenly at his home in Whitleyville. Michael had a love of music, stemming back to his early teens, loving everything from rock and roll to bluegrass. His later years brought him to the Opry and his love for old time fiddle blossomed. In the 80’s, he played fiddle and combined his vocal talents in a group called The Stillhouse Reelers. He later played back up musician on stage at the Grand Ole Opry to folks like Bob Douglas. He loved living simply, out in “the holler”, in the backwoods of Whitleyville. He loved fly-fishing, and because of his catch and release belief, got to know most of the fish who resided in his stream! He became a member of the Audubon Society, as well as a falconer and committed himself to the rescue and rehabilitation of many birds of prey. His talents included not only playing guitar, banjo, and fiddle, but also restoring and building them. He was predeceased by his parents: Alfred and Rachel DeFosche. Survivors include a Brother: Alfred DeFosche and wife Sharon, of Cookeville; a Sister: Cheryl DeFosche Cox of Clinton, CT; and Nieces: Meadow DeFosche Christ and husband David, of NC, and Rachel Cox Sackett and husband Gregory, of CT.

A Memorial service for Paul Michael Ryan, age 38 of Sparta, will be held at Thurman Funeral Home on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at 11:00 am. Paul passed away peacefully while surrounded by his loved ones, on Monday, October 22, 2018, after a long extended illness. Paul was born in Troy, Ohio to Glenn Ryan and Mary Kathleen Moore on November 20th, 1979. Paul is survived by his daughters Rylee A. Ryan and Madison A. Ryan; step-daughter, Ali Hollensworth; mother, Kathleen Moore; brother’s, Alan Ryan and Raymond Ryan; sister, Stephanie Winterfeld (Dan), Christina Perkins (Matthew), and Veronica Aguirre (Jamie); nieces, Sarah Ryan, Bethany Perkins, Raina Ryan and Miranda Ryan; nephews, Simeon Coppola, Dylan Winterfeld, Jacob Ryan and Victor Ryan. Special friends and family include Diana Gray (Moore), Charles Moore, numerous cousins, and their families. Family will receive friends at 10:00 am on November 10, 2018 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Thurman Funeral Home to assist with funeral expenses.
