Obituaries For Monday, May 13

Dorothy Ann (Wolfe) Duncan, 87 of Cookeville, passed away on Monday, May 13, 2019, at Signature Health Care of Putnam County in Cookeville. Dorothy was born Thursday, June 25, 1931 in Sidney, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Frances Hunter and the late Agnes (Moore) Wolfe. Dorothy is survived by: Son: Stephen Duncan. In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by: 2 Brothers, Richard and Daniel Edward Wolfe; Infant Sister, Mary Lou Wolfe. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

Mrs. Vanta Greenwood, age 56, of Cookeville, passed away Saturday morning May 11 at her residence. Arrangements are incomplete.

Funeral Services for Ather Anna Lee (Brown) Hurt, age 85 of Baxter, will be held Tuesday, May 14, 2019, at 12:00 pm at Parson Funeral Home in Muncie, Indiana with Rev. Andrew Phipps officiating. Interment will follow in the Gardens of Memory Cemetery. She passed away on Tuesday, May 7, 2019, at home surrounded by her family. Ather was born Friday, September 15, 1933, in Mt. Pisgah, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Manard H and the late Ida (Davis) Brown. Ather was a loving sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She was a member of the Memorial United Baptist Church in Muncie, Indiana. Ather was a member of the Eastern Star – Parker Lodge and the Warner Gear and Ball State Sympathy Club. Visitation with the family will be held Monday, May 13, 2019, from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm and Tuesday, May 14, 2019, from 11:00 am until time of service at Parson Funeral Home in Muncie, Indiana.

Celebration of Life Services for Mr. Billy Christopher “Chris” White, age 39, of Livingston will be conducted 5 p.m., Tuesday, May 14, 2019 from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home. Bro. Denny Bullock will officiate. Chris passed from this life on Saturday Morning, May 11, 2019 from the Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was born in Overton County on November 10, 1979 to Hank & Joy Johnson White. Chris was a member of the Christ Chapel Church in Livingston. He worked in road construction for many years. Chris enjoyed listening to music, working on cars, being outdoors and fishing. He was a big Alabama Roll Tide Fan. He leaves behind his daughter, Aubrey Grace White of Livingston; parents, Hank & Joy Johnson White of Livingston; brothers, James White & wife Linda of Cookeville, and Johnathan White & wife Mary of Livingston; nieces, Marissa, and Marion; nephews, Levi and James; grandmother, Beulah White of Livingston. Chris was preceded in death by his grandparents, Billy Harvey White, and James and Christene Johnson. The family will welcome friends on Tuesday afternoon from 3 p.m. until time of services.

Mr. Bohannon Was Born On February 25, 1958, In Monterey, To The Late Robert Howard “Dinky” And Etta Annette Bohannon. Mr. Bohannon Passed Away On Friday, May 10, 2019, At His Home. Mr. Bohannon Was A Maintenance Technician Employed By The City Of Cookeville Leisure Services For Many Years. He Was A Graduate Of Monterey High School Class Of 1976. Bobby Floyd Will Officiate With Interment To Follow In The Whittaker Cemetery. Mrs. Matheny Was Born On September 25, 1933, In Monterey, Tennessee, To The Late Rollie And Lou Ella Gentry McCormick. Mrs. Matheny Passed Away On Friday, May 10, 2019, At The Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Matheny Was Retired From Fleetguard. She Is Survived By, Her Children; Rufus Eddie Dillard Jr. Of Cookeville, TN, Michael Lee Dillard Of Ann Arbor, MI, Deborah K. Smith Of Las Vegas, NV, Elaine Marie Kenny Of Las Vegas, NV, Mary Lou Dodson Of Cookeville, TN, Cela Erck Of Newfane, NY, Twins, Lorraine S. Funeral services for Virgil Medlin, age 94, of Cookeville will be held Wednesday, May 15th, 2019 at 2:00 pm in the chapel of Presley Funeral Home with Johnny Fox and Kevin Daughrity officiating. Interment will follow in Crest Lawn Memorial with Military Honors. Mr. Medlin passed away Sunday, May 12, 2019 in Cookeville following a brief illness. He was born Thursday, August 28, 1924 in Bloomington Springs to the late Asberry Medlin and Bonnie Hudelston Medlin. Virgil will long be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was instrumental in forming the Care Fund for Fox Cemetery in Jackson County, and served as the Cemetery’s Treasurer for many years. Virgil loved camping, golf, woodworking, traveling, hunting, and sitting on the porch with Opal. He retired from the State of Tennessee with 28 years of service at Tennessee Tech University. He was a member of the Sycamore Church of Christ, where he attended for over 70 years. He was a World War II Veteran, having served in the Navy on the USS Croatan CVE-25. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 67 years, Opal Marie Flatt Medlin; three brothers, Benton, JB, and Charlie Medlin; five sisters, Annie Filson, Verdia Martin, Emogene Worley, Gladys Randolph, and infant sister, Ruby Lee Medlin. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Butch Glasscock of the Zion Community in Jackson County; grandson and wife, Jason Lee and Melanie Stewart of Cookeville; great-granddaughter, Riley Elizabeth Stewart of Cookeville; sister, Maggie Medlin Dyer of Cookeville; brothers and sisters in law, Paul (Brenda) Flatt, Terry (Annette) Flatt, and Mike (Judy) Flatt, all of Cookeville, and Teresa Clark of West Monroe, Louisiana; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 14, 2019, 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM and Wednesday, May 15, 2019, and 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM at Presley Funeral Home.

Memorial services for Mr. James Edward Pollard, age 81 of Smithville, will be conducted 3:00pm Saturday, May 18, 2019 from the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home with full military honors by the Veterans’ Honor Guard. Mr. Pollard passed away Sunday, May 12, 2019 at his residence. Mr. Pollard was born November 23, 1937 in White County to the late Willie Lee & Zonnee Lee Luna Pollard. He retired as a heavy equipment mechanic but had a career that involved the railroad and other other jobs that sent him all over the world. James served his country in the U.S. Air Force in Vietnam and still worked on cars in retirement. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by a sister Dora Faye Pollard; brothers Elijah, David and Junior Pollard. Survivors include his daughters Deborah Pollard (Barry) Mason of Walling, Beverly (Brian) Ingram of Crossville; Grandchildren: Mary Beth (Adam) Price, Rebecca (Joshua) Christy; Great-granddaughter and his pride and joy Lilith Marie Christy; Sister: Virgie Young; Brothers: William Pollard and Charles Pollard; Special nephew: Jerry Pollard; Special Great Nephew: Alex Pollard; A host of nieces and nephews also survive. The family will receive friends Saturday from 2-3:00pm at Hunter Funeral Home.

Memorial services for James Arthur Jones, age 98, of Cookeville, will be at 1 p.m. Monday May 20 at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home. Family will receive friends Sunday May 19 from 4 – 7 p.m. and again Monday from 10 a.m. until service time. Mr. Jones passed away Friday morning May 10, 2019 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.

A Celebration of life for Mrs. Mary Jane “Janie” (Sasha) Mabe age 73 of Cookeville, will be held on Thursday, May 23, 2019 at 6 PM at the Unity Church of the Cumberlands located on 10th street in Cookeville. Janie had chosen cremation and the family has followed her wishes. Janie passed away from this life at the Cookeville Regional Medical Center on Saturday morning, May 11, 2019. Janie was born in Detroit, Michigan on November 25, 1945 to the late Stanley and Marie (Syroid) Stafford. Janie was well known for her crafts, sewing, cake decorations, making her own cards, writing books and poems using the name Sasha Mabe. She wrote a book of Poetry called the Dark Side of Mother Wonderful. She was an accomplished heavy metal drummer and also played the bells. Janie also belonged to an assortment of clubs in Cookeville, including the Cookeville Writers Association, The Embroiders Guild, The Cookeville Art Gallery and Studio, F.C.E., The Cookeville Chapter of the National Button Collectors Society, and the National Sewing Guild. A Member of the Unity Church of the Cumberlands. Survivors: Husband: of 56 years Homer Mabe; 1 Daughter: Kathy Mabe; 1 Son: Keith Mabe and his wife Carmen; 1 Granddaughter: Summer Hagner; Brother and Sisters In-Law: Alvin JR and Betty Mabe, Gene and Carolyn Mabe, Donald and Wilma Mabe, Gary and Brenda Mabe. Preceded in death: In addition to her parents; 1 Brother: Fred Stafford; Father and Mother In-Law: Alvin and Mary Ethel Mabe; 3 Brothers In-Law: John Mabe, Jerry Mabe, Billy Mabe; Brother and Sisters In-Law: Reed and Joyce (Mabe) Kirkland, Arlow and Anna Ruth (Mabe) Gentry.

A Graveside Service for Thomas Earl Dunham, 62 of Doyle, will be held at 1pm on Saturday, May 25, 2019 at Oak Lawn Memorial Cemetery with Tracy Curtis officiating. Thomas passed away on Monday, May 13, 2019, at his home. He was born Tuesday, September 11, 1956 in Detroit , Michigan. Survivors include: Wife: Elaine Dunham of Doyle; Son: Elwin Thompson of Cookeville; Brothers: Roger Dunham and Terry Dunham of Sparta; Mother: Laheeta Roberts of Sparta. The family will welcome friends from 11am until the time of the service at the funeral home.
