Obituaries For Monday, April 29

William “Bill” Wright, Age 73, Of The Muddy Pond Community Of Overton County, Passed Away On Friday, April 26, 2019, At Standing Stone Care And Rehabilitation Center. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

Funeral Services for Mr. Thomas “Tom” Walker Norris, age 78, of Alpine will be conducted 2 p.m., Tuesday, April 30, 2019 from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home. Bro. David Beaty will officiate. Burial will follow in the Green Hill Cemetery, with Military Honors provided at graveside by the Overton County Veterans Honor Guard. The family will welcome friends on Monday evening from 5 until 8 p.m., then on Tuesday from 11 a.m. until time of services. Tom passed from this life on Friday evening, April 26, 2019 from the Overton County Health & Rehab. He was born in Overton County Tennessee on March 25, 1941 to the late James & Mary Alice Hicks Norris. Tom was long haul truck driver for many years. He served his country in the Army, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and working on small engines. He was a member of the West Fork Masonic Lodge.

The family of Richard Dennis Powers, age 49, of Cookeville will receive friends on Tuesday, April 30, 2019, 3:00 PM – 4:00 PM at Presley Funeral Home. Private Military interment will follow Wednesday in Chattanooga National Cemetery. Richard Dennis Powers passed away Thursday, April 25, 2019 at Standing Stone Care & Rehab Center in Monterey, Tennessee. He was born Monday, January 26, 1970 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Richard Dennis Powers and Gail Ann Parkes Powers.

Graveside services for Evelyn Lois Solt, age 88, of Cookeville will be held Wednesday, May 1st, 2019 at 11:00 am in Cookeville City Cemetery with Buddy Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 30, 2019, 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM and at Presley Funeral Home. Evelyn Lois Solt passed away Saturday, April 27, 2019 at NHC HealthCare in Cookeville, Tennessee. She was born Saturday, March 21, 1931 in Gainesboro, Tennessee to the late James Madison “Matt” Burgess and America Susanna “Annie” Pippin.

Funeral services for William Clark “W.C.” Bohannon, age 97 of Sparta will be conducted 11:00am Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at Sparta First United Methodist Church. Masonic Funeral Rites will be conducted by Sparta Lodge #99. Burial with full military honors by the Veterans’ Honor Guard will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 5-8:00pm at the church. Jeff Guth and Ken Wallace will officiate. He passed away on Sunday morning April 28, 2019 at River Park Hospital in McMinnville. Mr. Bohannon was born April 12, 1922 in the Eastland Community of White County. He was the seventh of thirteen children born to the late James Franklin & Beulah Dunn Bohannon. He had a long work career that spanned from building bridges and overpasses on the construction of I-40 from Buffalo Valley to Harriman to working at the Watts Bar Nuclear Plant. William started at Watts Bar as a crane operator and retired as manager of the Ice Plant. He retired in 1984 and planted some apple trees as a hobby. In 1988, his hobby turned into a small fall business until he retired again at the age of 90 in 2012. Mr. Bohannon was a longtime active member of Sparta First Methodist Church where he was a former trustee, served as an usher, and a member of the Dixon Bible Class. He was a proud U.S. Army World War II Veteran, serving as a gunman in Paris, Belgium, and Germany. Mr. Bohannon experienced D-Day at Normandy and was a Purple Heart Recipient. Aside from his busy work career and active church commitments, he was the oldest and longest standing member of the Sparta Masonic Lodge #99. He served there for 69 years.
