Obituaries For Friday, May 10

Funeral services for James “Pap” Harness age 77, of Baxter will be held Saturday, May 11th, 2019 at 12:00 pm in the chapel of Presley Funeral Home with Pastor Clint Walker officiating. Interment will follow in Boiling Springs Cemetery. Pap passed away Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center in Cookeville. Pap was born Sunday, April 5, 1942 in Baxter to the late James Franklin Harness and Inez Sherrill Harness. Pap started his own roofing company. He also worked at Southern Belle Dairy for several years. He was a race car driver and a farmer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Carson Harness and a sister, Dorothy Marie Harness. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Linda Gail Harness; sons, Darrell Harness and Tracey Harness (Martina), all of Sparta; daughters, Teresa Harness (Steven) and Ceresa West (Tim), all of Baxter; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Joyce Harness of Cookeville. The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 11, 2019, 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM at Presley Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Presley Funeral Home to help with final expenses.

Funeral Services for Mr. William “Butch” Holman, age 91, of Livingston will be conducted 2 p.m., Saturday, May 11, 2019 from the First Christian Church in Livingston. Rev. James Shenko will officiate. Burial to follow in the Overton County Memorial Gardens. Mr. Butch Holman passed from this life on Wednesday evening, May 8, 2019 at the Livingston Regional Medical Center. Born at home on March 13, 1928 to the late William Lester and Mae Smith Holman. Butch was a 1946 graduate of Livingston Academy. He served 46 years as the Executive Director of the Livingston Housing Authority, and was the past president of the Tennessee Housing Authority. Butch was a charter member of the Hidden Valley Country Club. He was a member of the Livingston Masonic Lodge and was a Shriner. Golfing was his life, he also enjoyed singing gospel songs in the choir at the First Christian Church, where he was a song leader. He was an avid Tennessee VOLS Fan, and bowler. Butch served the city of Livingston as a past City Alderman, and his county as a Overton County Commissioner. Butch leaves behind is loving wife of 67 years, Mrs. Joyce Sidwell Holman of Livingston; son, William Lee Holman of Livingston; daughter, Betty Massengille of Livingston; grandchildren, James William Massengille & wife Lee Ann of Cookeville, Matthew Massengille & wife Jill of Chattanooga, Beau Massengille & wife Margaret of Lebanon, Gary Massengille of Cookeville, Cecilia Holman Little of Tyler, TX, and McKenzy Holman of Livingston; great-grandchildren, James Matthew Massengille, John Clay Massengille, Jack Thomas Massengille, Gracyn Massengille, Gillian Massengille, Mae Massengille, Ashleigh Arnold & husband Hank, and William Little; great-great-granddaughter, Ellie Arnold; sister, Mrs. Marie Wiggins of Nashville; nieces, Jenny Wiggins, and Betty Lynch & husband Pat; nephew, Bill Wiggins & wife Gaye; also several great nieces and nephews and family. In addition to his parents, Butch was preceded in death by his son-in-law, James Edward Massengille; brother-in-law, Greer Wiggins, and baby sister, Lucille Holman. The family will welcome friends at the Church on Saturday from 11 a.m. until time of services at 2 p.m.

The service for Willard E. (Tube) Lowery, age 71 of Sparta, will be held on Sunday, May 12, 2019, at 2:00 pm at Thurman Funeral Home in Sparta, and officiating will be Pastor Erman Williams. Interment will follow in Davis cemetery. Mr. Lowery passed away Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at his sister’s home in Cookeville surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Lowery was born in Sparta on May 12, 1947. He was preceded in death by his wife, Augusta (Gussie) Lowery; son, Curron (Brother) Lowery; mother, Margie Louise Chaney; brother, Samuel (Boo Boo) Lee Chaney Jr.; and sister, Deborah Diane Lowery Hogan. He is survived by his loving son, Saxton Lowery; sisters, Maxine Chaney Glimps, and Alicia Keck; father, Samuel (Sam) Lee Chaney Sr.; grandchildren, Curronica Lowery, Mahayla Lowery Simmons, Hali Howard, and Hillary Huddleston ; Many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Sunday, May12, 2019, at Thurman Funeral Home in Sparta from 1:00 pm till 2:00 pm.

Funeral services for Eulus Carson Holloway, age 87, of Cookeville will be held Monday, May 13th, 2019 at 1:00 pm in the chapel of Presley Funeral Home with grandson, Quentin Lee and Bro. Frank Davis officiating. Interment will follow in Burris Cemetery. Mr. Holloway passed away Thursday, May 9, 2019 at his home in Cookeville following extended illness. He was born Sunday, July 5, 1931 in Gainesboro to the late William Washington Holloway and Lola Frances Clinton Holloway. Carson will long be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend. He loved to share a good story with family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Maudine Matheney Holloway; son, Roy Carson Holloway; brother, Carl Holloway; sisters, Ethel Cole, Lillian Newsom, and Dorothy Holloway. He is survived by four daughters, Rita Lee (Dale) of Dodson Branch, Barbara Hart of Cookeville, Theresa Manis (Ronny) of Cookeville, and Tina Manis (Robert) of Cookeville; son, Curtiss Ray Holloway of Cookeville; 13 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 12, 2019, 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM and Monday, May 13, 2019, 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM at Presley Funeral Home.

Funeral Services for Ather Anna Lee (Brown) Hurt, age 85 of Baxter, will be held Tuesday, May 14, 2019, at 12:00 pm at Parson Funeral Home in Muncie, Indiana with Rev. Andrew Phipps officiating. Interment will follow in the Gardens of Memory Cemetery. She passed away on Tuesday, May 7, 2019, at home surrounded by her family. Ather was born Friday, September 15, 1933, in Mt. Pisgah, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Manard H and the late Ida (Davis) Brown. Ather was a loving sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She was a member of the Memorial United Baptist Church in Muncie, Indiana. Ather was a member of the Eastern Star – Parker Lodge and the Warner Gear and Ball State Sympathy Club. Visitation with the family will be held Monday, May 13, 2019, from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm and Tuesday, May 14, 2019, from 11:00 am until time of service at Parson Funeral Home in Muncie, Indiana.
