Obituaries For Friday, March 1

Funeral services for Donald Kenneth Alcorn, age 72, of Cookeville will be held Saturday, March 2nd, 2019 at 12:00 pm in the chapel of Presley Funeral Home with Pastor Jason Groe officiating. Interment will follow in Brown’s Mill Cemetery. Donald passed away Wednesday, February 27, 2019 at NHC HealthCare Sparta in Sparta. He was born Sunday, February 16, 1947 in Cookeville to the late James General Alcorn and Dorothy Leffew Alcorn. Donald will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, and “Pa” to the grandkids. He was a Deacon at Poplar Grove Baptist Church, worked at Wilson Sporting Goods for 43 years, and was an avid fisherman. He will long be remembered for loving to joke and having fun with everyone around him. In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Sue Alcorn. He is survived by: Linda Alcorn, his wife of 52 years; daughter, Angie (Randy) Dyer of Cookeville; 3 grandchildren, Erin Dyer, Jacob Dyer, and Hannah Dyer; nieces and nephew. The family will receive friends on Friday, March 1, 2019, 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM and Saturday, March 2, 2019, 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM at Presley Funeral Home.

Funeral Services for Mrs. June McDonald Hall, age 88, of Monroe will be conducted 2 p.m., Saturday, March 2, 2019 from the First Christian Church of Livingston. Rev. James Shenko will officiate. Burial will be in the Bethsaida Cemetery. Mrs. June Hall passed from this life on Wednesday morning, February 27, 2019 in her home. She was born in Overton County on November 20, 1930 to the late Troy Thomas & Beulah Mae Hull McDonald. Mrs. June was a graduate of Livingston Academy and a member of the First Christian Church Disciples of Christ. She taught in the Overton County School System for many years. She loved her family and her church family. June loved to cook, garden, traveling to the beach. She loved teaching and Church. She leaves her daughters, Debra Hall Roberts of Florence, KY, and Donna Rae Hall Palermo & husband John Joseph of Monroe; son, Thomas Clayton Hall & wife Sherry of Monroe; grandchildren, Brandon Hall Roberts & wife Lily of San Diego, CA, Michael Roberts & wife Kimberly, and Brian Roberts & wife Eryn both of Ft. Bragg, NC, Jason Palermo & wife Kaitlyn of Amherst, MA, Jessica Palermo of New York, NY, Brittany Hall Copeland & husband Cullen of Monroe, Tayler Hall of Monroe, and Thomas Austin Hall of Monroe; great-grandchildren, Ryland Roberts, Bohdi Roberts, Gunnar Roberts, Giabella Palermo, JonLuca Palermo, Grayson Palermo, Chase Johnson, Brylee Johnson, Maddilyn Johnson, Beckham Copeland, and Palmer Copeland; brothers, Roger McDonald & Pat Sells of Monroe, and Troy McDonald, Jr. & wife Gayle of Tullahoma; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, June was preceded in death by her husband, William Taylor Hall; son, William Taylor Hall, Jr.; sister, Joy McDonald. The family will welcome friends on Friday evening from 5 until 9 p.m. at the First Christian Church of Livingston. Graveside services and Interment for Veronica (Ronni) Jane Warren, age 76 of Sparta, will be Saturday, March 2, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. at Dublin Memorial Gardens, Dublin, GA. She passed away Saturday. Mrs. Warren was born in Alamo, GA, September 10, 1942, to Robert Lee Kinchen and Evelyn Odessa Tadlock. She was preceded in death by her parents; father, Robert Lee Kinchen; Step-mother, Betty Rogers Kinchen; mother, Evelyn Odessa Tadlock Ussery;step-father, Harvel Bishop Ussery; brother-in-law, J. Bracken Palmer; and sister-in-law, Connie Kinchen.

Funeral services for Arthur “Buddy” Stidham, age 91, of Cookeville will be held Saturday, March 2nd, 2019 at 3:00 pm in the chapel of Presley Funeral Home with Johnny Fox officiating. Interment will follow in Cookeville City Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, March 1, 2019, 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM and Saturday, March 2, 2019, 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM at Presley Funeral Home. Mr. Stidham passed away Thursday, February 28, 2019 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center in Cookeville. He was born Thursday, January 19, 1928 in Jackson County, Tennessee to the late Smith Stidham and Bessie Apple Stidham. Buddy will be remembered for working on many major projects and building in Putnam County as a brick mason.

Funeral services for Mr. Howard D. Isabell, age 76 of Livingston, will be held Sunday, March 3, 2019 at 2 PM at the chapel of the Hall Funeral Home of Livingston with burial to follow in the Bethel Cemetery. Mr. Isabell passed away on Thursday, February 28, 2019 at Livingston Regional. Mr. Isabell was born June 9, 1942 in Fentress Ezekeual Isabell and Rosie Hyatt Isabell. Survivors: Wife: Doris Ledbetter Isabell; 3 Sons: Howard Junior Isabell of Livingston, Billy James Isabell and wife Barbara of Celina, Billy Joe Isabell of Celina; 2 Stepsons: Danny Joe Melton of Somerset, KY, Michael Melton and wife Regina of Somerset, KY; 12 Grandchildren; 4 Great Grandchildren; Sister: Linda Gail Stahl and husband Dewight of Muncie; 2 Brothers: Amon Eugene Isabell of Livingston, Tracy Isabell of Livingston; A host of family and friends also survive. Preceded in death: In addition to his parents; Son: Timmy Earl Melton; 2 Sisters: Lynn Wilson, Anna Ruth York. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, March 2, 2019 from 5 PM to 8 PM.

Graveside services for Linda J. Steward, age 75 of Sparta, will be held at 2pm, Sunday March 3, 2019, at Old Bon Air Cemetery. Bro. Nick Holman will officiate. Burial will take place immediately following the service at Old Bon Air cemetery. Mrs. Steward passed away on Thursday night, February 28, 2019, at TriStar Summit Medical Center in Hermitage. Born Wednesday, November 10, 1943 in Livingston, she was the daughter of the late W.H. Qualls and the late Willie Qualls Crabtree. She enjoyed her family and friends. Surviving family members include the following: daughter – Ramona Hunter and James of Quebeck; son – Dewayne Steward and Janet of Madison, NC; grandsons – Trent Holman and Faith of Sparta, Austin Holman of Cookeville; granddaughters – Tiara Evans of Sparta, Krista Keen of Sparta; brothers – Billy Qualls and Dora Mae of Sparta; Thomas Qualls of Sparta. Several great grandchildren, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to her parents, Mrs Steward was preceded in death by a daughter, Tonia Holman.

Funeral services for Mr. Wayne Humphrey, age 78, of Livingston will be conducted 2 p.m., Sunday, March 3, 2019 from the chapel of Livingston Funeral Home. Bro. George Fordyce will officiate. Burial will be in the Eckels Cemetery. The family will welcome friends on Sunday morning from 11 a.m. until time of services at the Livingston Funeral Home. Mr. Wayne Humphrey passed from this life on Thursday morning, February 27, 2019 from the Livingston Regional Hospital. He was born in West Virginia on August 13, 1940. He enjoyed growing vegetables, farming and working with his hands building things. Wayne loved old time gospel music and singing.

Funeral services for Laura Hall Jackson, age 72, of Baxter will be held Monday, March 4th, 2019 at 12:00 pm in the chapel of Presley Funeral Home with Buddy Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in Crest Lawn Memorial. Laura passed away Thursday, February 28, 2019 at Life Care Center of Sparta in Sparta. She was born Thursday, August 1, 1946 in Baxter to the late Frank Roy Hall and Hannah Laura Hughes Hall. Laura’s family believe they were blessed with the best wife, mother, grandmother, and friend that anyone could ask for. Laura was a long time member of Jefferson Avenue Church of Christ. For over 35 years, she taught classes in the Church of Christ. She was also a long time member of Mended Hearts chapter 127 in Cookeville. She served as Secretary and also as Vice President, and was active in all aspects of their work. During her long career, she taught 4th grade at Baxter Elementary for 24 years, served as Assistant Principal at Baxter Elementary for 6 years, and Avery Trace for 2 years. In addition to her service in Elementary Education, she taught sign language part time at Tennessee Tech University. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by: her mother and father in-law, Charles and Deane Hawkins Jackson; her aunt, Jimmie Jacques. She is survived by: her husband of 50 years, Charles Jackson; two children, Laura (Chris) Bell of Cookeville and Frank Jackson of Nashville; granddaughter, Simone Jackson of Nashville; sister, Shelia (Steve) Wakefield of Cookeville; nephew, Chris (Lori)Wakefield of Cookeville; niece, Julie (Jimmy) Harcum of Cookeville; numerous extended family and friends. The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 3, 2019, 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM and Monday, March 4, 2019, 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM at Presley Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Calvin T. Morris, 79, of Cookeville, will be held Monday, March 4, 2019, at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Presley Funeral Home with Pastor Clint Walker officiating. Entombment will follow in Crest Lawn Cemetery. Mr. Morris passed away Thursday, February 28, 2019, at Signature Healthcare of Putnam County in Cookeville. He was born Tuesday, September 12, 1939, in Armathwaite, to the late Erve Morris and Bertha Webb Morris. He was retired from Fleetguard/Cummins, where he was an electrician. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Charlie Earl Morris, and a sister, Maxine Morris. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Morris, of Cookeville; a son, Tom Morris; two daughters, Christy (Jeff) Cook and Shelly (Ronnie) Franklin, all of Cookeville; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; one sister; five brothers; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 3, 2019, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. and on Monday, March 4, 2019, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Presley Funeral Home.

The celebration of Life for Frances Evalene (Phillips) Smith, 88 of Cookeville, will be held Saturday, March 9, 2019, at 1:00 pm from the chapel of Crest Lawn Funeral Home with Bro. Keith Tosh officiating. Frances passed from this life on Wednesday, February 20, 2019, at her home surrounded by her family. Frances was born Friday, August 8, 1930, in Jackson County, and she was the daughter of the late Millard and Ova (Young) Phillips. Frances was a loving daughter, mother, granny, and friend. She retired from McCord Winn with 38 years of service. Frances was a member of Central Emmanuel Baptist Church for many years and was currently attending Life Church of Cookeville. She will be greatly missed. Frances is survived by: Daughter: Joyce Smith; 4 Grandchildren: Jeff and Trish Smith, Scott and Lindsey Smith, Mitchell Smith, and Wade England; 8 Great Grandchildren: Heather Smith, Heidi Smith, Holly Smith, Wade England, Jr., Jack England, Jacob Smith, Kelsey Smith, and Tucker Smith; Companion: Toby “Blue Diamond”; A host of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Frances was preceded in death by Son, Glen Smith; 3 Sisters, Daffo Allen, Effie Masters, and Jossie Smith; 3 Brothers, Earnest Phillips, Odell “Boots” Phillips, and Roy Phillips; and Special Friend, AJ Lohorn. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Saturday, March 9, 2019, at Crest Lawn Funeral Home.
