Obituaries For Friday, July 30

Mr. Dennis Michel Venegas, age 63 of Doyle, passed away at 3:14pm Thursday, July 29 at St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital in Murfreesboro. Dennis will be cremated at his request and no public services are planned.

Steven Wayne Morgan, 49 of Sparta, passed away on Wednesday, July 28 in Cookeville. No services are planned at this time.

Funeral services for Mrs. Sheila Kemp Stewart, age 56 of Johnson City, and formerly of Cookeville, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 31st, in the Cookeville chapel of Hooper Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Interment will follow at West Cemetery in the Fairview Community. Mrs. Stewart died Monday, July 26th, in Johnson City. The family will receive friends Friday 5-8 p.m. and Saturday 9-11 a.m. both at the funeral home.

Funeral services for Mr. Joseph James Presley, age 40 of Sparta, will be conducted 1:00pm Saturday, July 31 from the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home with burial in Highland Cemetery. David Copeland will officiate. Mr. Presley passed away Wednesday, July 28 at St. Thomas Midtown Hospital in Nashville. Joseph had a long career as a diesel mechanic and most recently as a sawmill laborer. Surviving family members left to cherish his memory include his three children, Katlyn Presley of Knoxville, Jordan Presley of Sparta, and Annashay Presley of Sparta. The family will receive friends after 11:00am Saturday at Hunter Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Mr. Tony Lee Dixon, age 51 of Allons, will be held on Saturday, July 31 at 2 PM from the chapel of the Hall Funeral Home of Livingston with burial to follow in the Carter-Bilbrey Cemetery. Officiating with the service will be Bro. Ricky Dixon. Mr. Dixon passed from this life on Thursday morning, July 29 at his residence with his loving family by his side. Tony was a logger by profession. He was of the Baptist faith. Tony loved his family and friends very much and he will be greatly missed. Surviving family includes his son, Lucas Dixon; and his father, Kenneth Dixon. Family will welcome friends at the funeral home on Friday, July 30th starting at 5 PM until 9 PM.

Funeral services for James Orval (Lolly) Sherrell, 81 of Sparta, will be held at Oaklawn Funeral Home Saturday, July 31 at 2:00 pm with Joe Neal officiating. Lolly will be buried at Plainview Cemetery in Cassville. Mr. Sherrell passed away Tuesday, July 27 at Cedar Hills Senior Living in Cookeville. He was best known for his sense of humor and ill-timed jokes. He had a passion for jigsaw puzzles, ancestry research and pulling tricks on his friends and family. As his dementia progressed, his most recent hobbies were Gunsmoke marathons, enjoying sweets and lovingly aggravating his assisted living family. Surviving family includes his children, Nick Sherrell, Vicky Sherrell-Bouwens, Jerry (Casey) Sherrell, Debbie (David) Yates, and Lori (Tom) Dyer. Visitation is prior to the service from 12pm-2pm.

Funeral services for Sylvia Ann Burnett, age 78 of Crossville, formerly of Sparta, will be Saturday July 31, 2021, at 3:00 P.M. at Thurman Funeral Home. Interment will be at Old Bon Air Cemetery. She went peacefully to be with the Lord on July 26, 2021, at her home of Crossville, TN. She was born June 15, 1943, to the late Sylvester Smith and Ruth Myers. She is survived by daughter, Cathy (Donnie) Whittenburg. the family will receive friends on Saturday July 31, 2021, at 2:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. at Thurman Funeral Home.

Funeral services Mrs. Jeannette Lynn, age 94 of Cookeville, will be held Saturday July 31 at 5 p.m. at Collegeside Church of Christ. Private interment will be in Smyrna Cemetery. Mrs. Lynn died Friday afternoon, July 23rd at Heritage Pointe Senior Living. Mrs. Lynn’s family will receive friends Saturday from 3 p.m. until service time at the church.

Funeral services for Brenda Bohannon, 67 of Elizabethton and formerly of Rickman, will be Sunday, August 1 at 2 PM at the Dyer Chapel of Hooper Huddleston Horner Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Campbell Bohannon Cemetery in Putnam County. Bro. James Tidwell and Bro. Michael Hood will officiate. Mrs. Bohannon died Wednesday night, July 28 at Sycamore Shoals Hospital in Elizabethton. Brenda was a retired cashier in food service at Milligan University in Elizabethton. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially the grandbabies. Survivors include daughters, Crystal West of Elizabethton, Gina (Jeff) Sharp of Hazelhurst, Mississippi, April (Lance) Little of Cookeville; and sons, David Scott Bohannon and fiance Misty Looper of Cookeville, Jeramy Bohannon of Livingston, and Michael Brewer of Lincolnton, N.C. The family will receive friends Sunday from 12 noon until service time at the funeral home.

Graveside Services for Mr. Dana C. Hammons, age 90 of Livingston will be conducted 2 p.m., Sunday, August 1 from the Okolona Cemetery, with Military Honors provided at Graveside by the Overton County Veterans Honor Guard. Mr. Hammons passed away on July 29 in Livingston. He attended Union Hill, a small one teacher school near his home. About the age of 18, he moved to Battle Creek, Michigan where his uncles and aunts lived. He found work at post Cereals Corp. where he was employed until being drafted into the U.S. Army due tot he Korean Conflict. After basic training, he served in Korea from 1951 to 1953 where he was awarded the Korean Service Medal with 2 Bronze Camp Stars. In 1999, when his wife died, he moved back to Tennessee to be with his mother and other family members. In Tennessee, he enjoyed socializing at local dance events. He is survived by his son Jeff Hammons of Battle Creek, MI. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations in his honor be made to the Overton County Veterans Honor Guard, or the VFW. The family will welcome friends at the cemetery

Funeral Services For Marty Allred, Age 58 Of Monterey, Will Be Conducted On Sunday, August 1 At 3:00 PM From The Chapel Of Goff Funeral Home. Bro. Tim Singleton Will Officiate. Mr. Allred Passed Away On Tuesday, July 27. He Was Born On Monday, April 15, 1963, In Monterey, To The Late Melvin Eugene Allred And Tommie Jean England Allred Lawrence. Mr. Allred Was A Heating And Cooling Tech. Surviving family includes His Sister, Karen Price Of Monterey. The Family Will Receive Friends At Goff Funeral Home On Sunday, August 1 From 1:00 PM Until Time Of Services At 3:00 PM.

Memorial services for Mr. Thomas Elmer Varnadore, Jr. affectionately known by family and friends as Buddy, age 68 of Sparta, will be conducted 11:00am Monday, August 2 from the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home. Mr. Varnadore passed away on July 27 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He then spent 27 years as a truck driver and after retirement has been a familiar face as an attendant at the Rock House Convenience Center. Surviving family members left to cherish his memory include his wife of 50 years, Helen Varndadore; and their children, Joey (Julie) Varnadore, and Melissa Lynn Parks. The family will receive friends after 10:00am Monday at Hunter Funeral Home.

Funeral Services for Frances Sue Howard, 78 of Sparta, will be held on Monday, August 2 at Oak Lawn Funeral Home at 3 PM with Bro. Nathen Hawkins officiating, burial will follow at Oak Lawn Memorial Cemetery. Mrs. Howard passed away on Friday, July 30 at her home surrounded by family. Sue retired from Mallory Timers after 25 years. She was a loving mother, wife, friend, and grandmother. Surviving family includes her Husband of 60 years, Jim Howard; son, Steve (Tammy) Howard; and daughter, Tammy (Joe) Copeland. The family will receive friends on Monday, August 2 at the funeral home from 1 PM till the time of service.

Celebration Of Life Services For Loretta Pennington, Age 79 Of Monterey, Will Be Conducted On Sunday, August 8 At 2:00 PM From The Chapel Of Goff Funeral Home. Rev. J.L. “Chip” Pennington Will Officiate. Mrs. Pennington Passed Away On Thursday, July 29 At Her Home. Mrs. Pennington Was A Loving And Devoted Wife, Mother, Grandmother, And Great Grandmother. She Was A Teacher, Interpreter For The Deaf, Artist, Crafter, Counselor, Missionary, And A College Professor. She Is Survived By Her Husband, Rev. J.L. “Chip” Pennington; Daughters, Kelly Jo Pennington Rose And Mark Rose, Amy Beth Pennington Springs And Elbert Springs; and Sons, Jeffrey Lyle Pennington And Cynthia Dewitte, Caleb Pennington, and Exequel Pennington.
