Obituaries For Friday, March 8

James H. Maxwell age 87 of Algood, passed away on March 8, 2019 at Signature Healthcare of Putnam County. Mr. James Maxwell was born in Gainesboro on May 25, 1931 to the late Claude and Liz Louvena (Lou) Harper Maxwell. Mr. James H. Maxwell retired from the Anderson Indiana School District Custodial Services after 26 years. He also worked a secondary job as a plaster worker. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, feeding the birds and squirrels and spending time with his family. He loved going to Cracker Barrel on the weekends with family. He loved to play cards and enjoy a meal while playing cards. He loved the outdoors even if it was just to sit out on the porch. Survivors include: Caregivers and nieces, Rita Warren and Pamela Surridge, several other nieces and nephews and a step daughter Cathy (Hall) Chamberlain of New Castle, IN also survive. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by; his wife, Mable Davis Hall Maxwell, Sister, Janice and Junior Carter, Beverly Sue and Jack Gibbons, Mable and Charles McCoy, Mattie and Charles Bilyue, Beulah and Bill Harvey, Velma T (Tom) and Bill McGuire, Annie and Grover Johnson, Lena and Malcom Hawkins, Eugene B (Bob) and Mary Maxwell, Willie Howard Maxwell, Stepson Ronald Hall. Mr. Maxwell Chose Cremation and the family will have a Memorial service at a later date.

Charlene Hays, Age 80, Of The Cravenstown Community Passed Away On Wednesday, March 6, 2019, At Her Home. Ms. Hays Was Born On April 14, 1938, To The Late Dewey Douglas And Lee Velva Winningham Threet. Ms. Hays Was A Homemaker. She Is Survived By Her Daughter, Kathern Hays Of The Cravenstown Community; Son And Daughter-In-Law, Joel And Virginia Hays Of Monterey, TN; 5 Grandchildren; 3 Great Grandchildren; Sister, Zona Abston Of The Cravenstown Community; And Brother, Doug Threet Of The Cravenstown Community. In Addition To Her Parents, She Was Preceded In Death By Her Husband, Joel Fount Hays; And Son, Darrell Hays. Memorial Services Will Be Announced At A Later Date.

The family of Carolyn Anne Richards, age 86, of Cookeville will receive friends on Friday, March 8, 2019, 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM at Presley Funeral Home. Carolyn Anne Richards passed away Monday, March 4, 2019 at her home in Cookeville. She was born Tuesday, August 16, 1932 in Leominster, Massachusetts to the late John Ernest Sutton and Doris Mae Harvey Sutton.

A celebration of life gathering for Charlene Brown, age 75 of Sparta, will be held in the family home at 1115 Honeysuckle Lane, Sparta from 10am-2pm Saturday, March 9, 2019. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the TTU Child Development Lab, 200 W. 10th Street, Cookeville, TN 38505 in Charlene’s memory. Charlene Brown was born Tuesday, May 4, 1943 in Dalton, Georgia, to Cora Frances and Charles Edward Skipper. Her father, Charles, died in combat in WWII. When Charlene was 4, her mother married George S. Jones from Shelbyville, TN, who would fulfill the role of father perfectly. Charlene spent her young life in Shelbyville, graduating from Shelbyville Central High. She attended both Freed-Hardeman and Lipscomb Universities. It was at Lipscomb where she met the love of her life, Fred Thomas Brown. They were married June 5, 1965. She led a full life, loved, and was loved by her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mrs. Rita Craighead, age 76, of Murfreesboro and formerly of Cookeville, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday March 9 at Cookeville First United Methodist Church. Rev. Kevin Conrad will officiate. Interment will follow in Cookeville City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until service time at the church. Mrs. Craighead passed away Wednesday March 6, 2019 at her home.

The celebration of Life for Frances Evalene (Phillips) Smith, 88 of Cookeville, will be held Saturday, March 9, 2019, at 1:00 pm from the chapel of Crest Lawn Funeral Home with Bro. Keith Tosh officiating. Frances passed from this life on Wednesday, February 20, 2019, at her home surrounded by her family. Frances was born Friday, August 8, 1930, in Jackson County, and she was the daughter of the late Millard and Ova (Young) Phillips. Frances was a loving daughter, mother, granny, and friend. She retired from McCord Winn with 38 years of service. Frances was a member of Central Emmanuel Baptist Church for many years and was currently attending Life Church of Cookeville. She will be greatly missed. Frances is survived by: Daughter: Joyce Smith; 4 Grandchildren: Jeff and Trish Smith, Scott and Lindsey Smith, Mitchell Smith, and Wade England; 8 Great Grandchildren: Heather Smith, Heidi Smith, Holly Smith, Wade England, Jr., Jack England, Jacob Smith, Kelsey Smith, and Tucker Smith; Companion: Toby “Blue Diamond”; A host of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Frances was preceded in death by Son, Glen Smith; 3 Sisters, Daffo Allen, Effie Masters, and Jossie Smith; 3 Brothers, Earnest Phillips, Odell “Boots” Phillips, and Roy Phillips; and Special Friend, AJ Lohorn. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Saturday, March 9, 2019, at Crest Lawn Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Jerry Bruce Dulworth, 68 of Cookeville, will be held Sunday, March 10, 2019 at 12:00 pm from the chapel of Crest Lawn Funeral Home. Jerry passed away on Tuesday, March 5, 2019. Jerry was born Sunday, August 6, 1950 in Celina, he was the son of the late John Winward and Marie (Spivey) Dulworth. Jerry is survived by: Daughter: Melissa and Max Laws of Greenville; Son: Jason Dulworth of Greenville; 3 Grandchildren: Mitea Kirkpatrick, Emma Laws, and Kylee Laws; Brother: Wayne and Pat Dulworth of Cookeville; 2 Nephews: Scott and Terri Lynn Dulworth of Tallahassee, Florida and their children, Jacob and Hannah and John and Julie Dulworth of Cookeville, and their children, J.T. and Luke. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents. The family will receive friends from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm on Sunday, March 10, 2019, at Crest Lawn Funeral Home.
