WCTE’s Great TV Auction will be held virtually for the second year in a row.
Last year the auction went virtual because of the pandemic, but Event and Engagement Coordinator Samuel Gray said it went so well they decided to try it again this year.
“We had less expenses last year when we had taken everything online and it just made the whole process just a lot easier to manager,” Gray said. “So we decided to keep our expenses down and we decided to keep the auction the way that it was last year.”
Gray said there will also be a new addition to the auction this year. Because WCTE was able to garner enough support and backers from local business, Gray said they are running a 30 minute TV program for six businesses. Gray said they hope to give potential bidders a sneak peek to things they might see during the auction.
“Kind of something similar to what Boston PBS does where they produce a 30-minute TV show to promote some of these high-ticket items in this year’s auction,” Gray said. “So we had kind of taken a page out of their book and produced a show for six businesses that have made huge contributions to WCTE.”
This is the Great TV Auction’s 38th consecutive year. Gray said it is the single-largest contributor to the station’s fundraising activities. All funds go to WCTE’s initiatives.
Gray said bidding opens at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 1st, and WCTE will broadcast the auction live from June 9th to June 13th. For questions or concerns about online auction, call WCTE for assistance.
