WCTE Selects Avery Hutchins As New President And CEO

WCTE has named Avery Hutchins as its new President and CEO.

Hutchins replaces Becky Magura, who assumed a position with Nashville Public Television. Hutchins said she is excited and honored to take on the new role.

“We want to continue the story telling of the Upper Cumberland,” Hutchins said. “WCTE PBS is here to bring voice to our people, and we want to make sure we represent them and share their stories through our programming.”

Hutchins said the focus of WCTE will not change under new leadership. Hutchins said the station will provide resources and learning opportunities through its programming.

“We want to continue to improve those tools and to bring new and more resourceful resources to our area,” Hutchins said.

Hutchinson has worked at WCTE for some 10 years and previously served as the interim President and CEO. Hutchins said she wants to continue the work of Magura and keep WCTE as a nationally recognized station.

“Becky left a legacy with our station,” Hutchins said. “Her hard work, determination, resourcefulness, creativity and being able to get our station recognized at a national level and being that model small station for all PBS stations across the county is phenomenal. She has left us in a really good place to pick up where she left off and continue with that work. As a new CEO, I hope to do that.”

Hutchins grew up in Overton County and graduated from Tennessee Tech. She returned to the area in 2011 as WCTE’s Sale Manager and later became Station Manager.
