WCTE will continue its summer learning programming through the summer.
The public television station partnered with the Tennessee Department of Education and stations across the state in early April to launch classroom instruction on television. A new summer schedule will debut June 15.
“I think it was a critical time for PBS stations to really unite and step up to the plate,” WCTE’s Director of Engagement and Education Jodi Pitts said. “We have a ton of educational resources available and the great way of communicating with people directly into their home.”
WCTE is currently working with the Tennessee Public Television Council and the Tennessee Department of Education to develop the new lineup. Pitts said so far, parents and teachers in the community are responding positively to the At Home Learning program.
“I have had several teachers reach out to me to incorporate some of the PBS learning media resources into their Google Classroom assignments,” Pitts said. “Also, we have seen kids excited to see teachers they knew on the television.”
Pitts said the At Home Learning is an easy way to connect with children and reinforce the learning concept with characters they love. The program was developed to help schools provide access to learning for all students at home, regardless of access to the Internet.
“For each show that airs in the line up, there is a companion activity,” Pitts said. “There is a hyperlink within the schedule that takes you to some sort of interactive activity on PBS LearningMedia.”
The At Home Learning summer lineup will air until August 1st. WCTE offers a daily curriculum from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday thru Friday on WCTE PBS. WCTE PBS is free over the air to all people and can be accessed by a home antenna, within an 80-mile radius of Cookeville.
