WCPL Eclipse Glasses Giveaway A Success

The White County Public Library had a busy day Monday.

By 11 a.m. Director Cathy Farley said more than 200 people had stopped by the library to pick up their free solar eclipse glasses.

“We have a little over 3,000 pairs of solar eclipse glasses, what you need to do to get those is bring your White County Public Library card to the front desk, we will give you four sets of glasses for you and yours to safely observe the eclipse,” Farley said.

Farley said she was pleased with the response.

The glasses giveaway is just one of the activities planned for the library’s eclipse celebration.

Friday, Aug. 18, they’ll be holding story time for small children and they’ll make their own eclipse viewers, starting at 10 a.m.

On eclipse day, there’s videos, science demonstrations and you can watch the eclipse with the librarians. The library will officially close from 1:20-1:30 p.m. so the librarians can all watch the eclipse.

What’s dubbed the Great American Eclipse will darken the skies Monday Aug. 21.
