Water line work on Willow Avenue will be completed before the road is paved.
TDOT spokeswoman Jennifer Flynn said before Oct. 31, nearly two miles of Willow Avenue will be paved. Work will begin south of Jackson Street and continue to just north of Gainesboro Grade.
Cookeville Water Department representative Matthew Phillips said the department has a contractor replacing water lines from Jackson Street to 12th Street, in preparation for the paving project.
The water line work will be complete by Friday, Aug. 4. Phillips urged motorists to take alternate routes while the water line work is completed.. He encouraged those who must travel on Willow Avenue to use caution and obey the traffic controls.
Flynn said the $2.1 million state contract was won by Nashville’s Rogers Group. They can begin the project any time after a pre-construction conference July 27.
She said work will be done overnight, from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. and lane closures will only happen during those times. No lane closures will be allowed during special events, holidays or holiday weekends, Flynn said.
