Water line replacement is underway on Willow Avenue in Cookeville.
Cookeville’s Water and Sewer Director Ronnie Kelly said the work is ahead of a repaving project.
“We’re replacing some older infrastructure on South Willow Avenue there before TDOT does the repaving project,” Kelly said. “It consists of replacing some water lines and some sewer lines.”
The paving project will stretch from West Jackson Street to south of I-40, a stretch of around 2 miles. Kelly said it will take another few months to finish the city’s prep work before TDOT takes over.
“I know the repaving is scheduled for this summer,” Kelly said. “Our contractor probably has another month or so, so it should wrap up here shortly.”
Kelly said despite the amount of work they are doing, the city has been happy with how the contractor has kept traffic moving.
“I think they have done a good job,” Kelly said. “They’ve had pretty good traffic control and the patches have been good, so we’ve been pretty happy so far.”
Kelly said that TDOT has not yet provided an exact timeline on the paving of South Willow Avenue other than saying it is scheduled for this summer.
