A number of Byrdstown residents had no water Thursday after a six-inch main waterline broke on West Main Street.
Mayor Sam Gibson said about 800,000 gallons of water went through the broken line before crews managed to make repairs.
“Anytime you have a break like this we will use the boil water advisory for those areas,” Gibson said. “When you’ve got a leak there’s no way you can keep a little dirt and mud from getting in there, so we’re need to do that.”
Gibson said the water boil advisory will remain in effect for the next 24-hours. The busted line mostly affected residents in downtown, along with the Clark Mountain and Moodyville areas.
The Pickett County School System decided to cancel classes because of Thursday morning’s waterline break.
