The White County Bowling Team has a new head coach in Roger Thorpe, grateful for joining a program that was setup for success.
In his first season as head coach, Thorpe said he has been given the keys to a great program. The lifetime bowler said former coach Wesley Martin inquired over the years about taking over and noted it meant a lot to be asked by him to be his successor.
“Mr. Martin had done a wonderful job with the program,” Thorpe said. “He brought several winning seasons to the program, so I got big shoes to fill. I’ve known Martin a long time, so it was wonderful.”
Thorpe said all of his boys are rolling with a passion and said they have all contributed to the team’s start. Though Thorpe is the head coach, he deflects all praise to his bowlers and to Martin.
“It’s a reflection on Martin’s legacy,” Thorpe said. “I’ve taken over a program that Martin left in great shape, so it’s wonderful. We just come in, do our stuff and go home. The boys are wonderful and the girls are great.”
On the girl’s side, he said from top to bottom the lineup is solid, but noted Sarah Mullican’s past few outings have been impressive.
