Warren Sheriffs Department Offering Rides Home On New Year’s Eve

The Warren County Sheriffs Department is offering free rides home to those who may have had too much to drink on New Year’s Eve.

Captain Kevin York said there will be no questions asked. He said if a Warren County resident feels they are too drunk to drive all they have to do is call the jail to get a ride home. York said the goal of the program is to keep the roadways safe.

“So we want to decrease the traffic fatalities,” York said. “Always do everything we can to try and get the fatalities down, and this is one of the biggest efforts that we can do.”

York said this is the second year in a row the department has done this on New Year’s Eve. He said they hope to have more people take them up on their offer for a ride home this year.

“We understand people think maybe they have a ride or maybe they drink a little more than they should,” York said. “We understand that does happen, but we please ask no one get behind the wheel of a vehicle intoxicated. Please, just give us a call, and we will make sure you get home safely.”

York said New Year’s Eve is a busy day for the department.

“We also are doing saturated patrol as well, so we will have extra deputies out their patrolling, but we would rather just make sure people get home safely, and we believe this is a good way to do it,” York said.

York if you are pulled over you can expect to face the consequences.

“There’s mandatory sentencing for DUIs, if you’re convicted of that,” York said. “You will do some jail time. People lose their license and then you’re not able to get back and forth to work. It costs a lot of money to go to court. None of this cheap. Most of all it could cost you your life.”
