Warren Interviews For Shelter Jobs

Warren County Executive Terry Bell completed interviews Thursday for three full-time positions and a possible part-time position at Warren County Animal Control.

The county fired the director July. Bell said the county is looking for employees who are able to care for the animals, do record keeping, and also stay updated on and follow all of the state laws.

“Being able to know exactly where you’re tax dollars went and how they are being spent and what you are taking in is really important, and of course the comptroller checks us every year for those things so we want to make sure we’ve got everything they need to do that audit,” Bell said.

While the interviews continue, Bell said work also underway to expand the shelter facility.

“We should have the drawings back here the first of September,” Bell said. “We got our walls set on our new Animal control building and we’ll be able to let somebody pour the concrete and get the roof on that building here shortly.”

Bell said that just like any other government funded office, accountability is huge because it is using tax payer dollars. Bell said that the county is focusing on educating the public about the importance of spay and neuter in the meantime to help control the pet population. Bell said Animal Control initiated a Spay and Neuter Challenge a couple months ago and have raised $3,800 so far to keep the animals in the shelter spayed and neutered.

“The county court is looking at next month appropriating $5,000 of donation money our animal control had received to actually do spay and neuter,” Bell said.

Bell said the current Warren County Animal Shelter has been operating like normal throughout the change in leadership. He said the county will be making decisions on who is the most qualified candidate after interviews are completed.
