Warren General Sessions Court To See Changes In New Year

Warren County General Sessions Court will see changes starting in the new year.

Judge Ryan J. Moore said they are implementing three changes in hopes of making dockets more efficient both from the court’s side and the participants’ sides.

“Starting court daily at 8:30 a.m,” Moore said. “And on criminal and traffic days we want to get the people who are out on bond in and out of court faster. Our inmates will be heard at the end of the docket so our people can get back to work who are out on bond.”

Moore said the docket schedule will change to accommodate the statute for civil judgments. He said civil cases will now be held on Monday in order to meet the 10-day deadline. Criminal cases and traffic dockets will remain on Tuesdays and Thursdays, respectively. Complex matters such as termination of parental rights cases, time-sensitive juvenile matters, and other contested civil actions will be heard on Fridays.

In another effort to improve efficiency, Moore said two settlement rooms have been created to allow attorneys and clients private meeting areas to discuss cases, settlement offers, and execute pleas. Maximizing the space will also allow attorneys the ability to work on cases while court is still in session.

“General Sessions Court has been called the legal workhorse of dispute resolution because of its broad jurisdiction,” Moore said. “I’m committed to moving dockets forward with fewer continuances and fewer recesses. Daily, I strive to be on-schedule, prepared, and productive to ensure Warren County’s General Sessions Court is efficient, protects taxpayer dollars, and is considerate of people’s time.”

An additional change includes updates to the court’s dress code.
