Walling Man Arrested After Vehicle Pursuit Monday

A White County man has landed behind bars for allegedly leading Cookeville Police on a vehicle pursuit.

Cookeville Police Officers charged Brian Trae Mcwhirter with evading arrest. He has not yet posted his $5,000 bond amount.

The incident happened Monday when Mcwhirter allegedly ignored a stop sign at Salem Road and Highway 111. An arrest warrant said the defendant refused to pull over and eventually entered Interstate 40 eastbound at a high rate of speed.

The pursuit continued to Highway 70 and came to an end when Mcwhirter crashed the vehicle on Cherry Creek Road and fled on foot. The report said a trained K-9 located Mcwherter hiding along a creek bed in the nearby woods.

Officers determined that Mcwhirter had active warrants out of Coffee County.
