Cookeville Council Member Eric Walker wants to see local developers and local financial experts represented on the Cookeville Planning Commission.
Thursday night, the council will fill its second vacancy in as many months on the commission as Chris Wakefield steps away after 15 years on the commission.
Walker said the expertise provided by those inside the process helps the Planning Commission do its business. Walker serves as the council representative on the commission.
“We do need to kind of fulfil sectors from different areas of Cookeville to kind of help influence that,” Walker said. “We don’t currently have any planning commissioners appointed that are builders or I don’t believe we have any banker or financial representatives.”
Council members will discuss the possible five-year appointment with interested community members. Planning Director Jon Ward said several community members had expressed interest. He will share that list with council members this week.
Any one in the community who would like to serve can contact the Cookeville Planning Department.
