At least seven different communities are expected to meet in Cookeville’s Dogwood Park this Sunday.
The event is called Walk for Jesus, and is not organized by one specific church. Stage Manager David Hunter said this event hopes to show peace in the community.
“We just simply want to get out and walk in peace as Christians and walk for Jesus and to bring unity to the community here in Cookeville and the Upper Cumberland and to ask everyone who wants to come out and join us to come on out and lets just have a peaceful night to walk and stand up for Jesus and be able to worship,” Hunter said.
The walk will start in Dogwood Park at 4:00 PM on Sunday. The 6:00 PM worship will be led by Eddie James.
David Hunter said multiple churches have come together to help put this on as one single group.
“It’s actually all of us coming together as the churches, to come together as the church,” Hunter said.
Although this gathering is taking place during the COVID-19 pandemic, Hunter said there are protocols in place.
“We’re going to be doing social distancing the best that we can there in the park and we do advise people that come to this event, to do that,” Hunter said.
The 6:00 PM worship is expected to last until about 9:00 PM. Hunter said churches from Smithville, McMinnville, Jamestown, Carthage and Lebanon are expected to be in attendance.
